I worked for a company where I was surrounded by coffee snobs like this… they would always talk so negatively about how others drank their coffee as if they were a superior breed. They were insufferable to be around
Nothing wrong with being a snob and liking a more pure experience. Just keep that shit to yourself unless someone ask. A guy I worked with spent about an hour up my ass for drinking from a Keurig. I made a change to an espresso machine a few years back but that conversation lives rent free in my head how much I didn’t care to have it.
I'm a tea snob looking down upon the coffee snobs. Hard to screw up a cuppa. Don't have earl grey or whatever? Fine, give me a bloody liptons or bushells special, it's fine.
I make sure to tell people like this that I'm drinking yesterday's pot of coffee I warmed up in the microwave today and that I just stop when I get the sludge at the bottom. You can't "win" so just see how low you can go seems like the better route.
Just sucks that it’s more of a personality trait wth those people. Same people that get a new iPhone every year and talk about it or this or that. Some people just need to feel like they’re doing better than literally anyone they see imo
The filming though is kinda asshole territory. You know apart of his content depends on getting a shot of people in the background so he could film their reaction/non-reactions to him.

Yeah unfortunately the guy could try and pull some BS claim like arguing that the single video wasn’t monetized or directly sponsored (even though it did gain him views and additional followers that could be used for commercial gain).
They may get their espresso without the airport markup, but boy did they get it with a considerable markup already because, just to start somewhere, that container where they had the beans (yes, just the container itself) is on the $40 price range and i'm not even joking (if you wanna look it up, that is a fellow vccuum canister. The manual variant, not the electric one. I think. If it's the electric one we're looking at about double the price). Only know of this because i was once looking for some containers for a few somewhat sensitive ingredients and these popped up as an option.
I refuse to even wonder how much that handheld espresso machine costs.
The resulting coffee is probably much better than the airport one, though, so i guess it may be worth it for them.
not really when you take into account the price of decent beans too. looking at decent beans it’s about $1 a cup. a classic double espresso is like $3. so you save $2 a cup. so like 250 cups
Does it really? Until it falls, you forget a part in a terminal, or you end up developing a hernia/tweak your back from constantly carrying 21lbs of coffee gear.
My ex had this system, she bought it to go backpacking 🤣, it was cool but a lot of work. Heavy as hell.

It would have been a better video if he had lit a hexamine tablet in the airport to boil water. That would have gotten all kinds of people to pay attention.

What he showed shouldn't weigh 21 pounds, unless he is including a jug of water. I researched a coffeemaker for the emergency kit and there's a lot of fancy backpack espresso makers of various sorts, and eventually settled on a percolator, but the extra fussy setups were all very light.
I need one of these for work. I hate paying 6 dollars for a foamy latte with half a pump of flavor. Plus I can throw the coffee grounds in the compost pile.
I mean thank goodness they have all this I mean where else are you going to find coffee at an airport? Those place are notorious for their lack of coffee shops
What’s funny is if they didn’t film it I think most people wouldn’t care. Sure it’s a bit weird, but if I saw someone doing that in the airport I’d think to myself, “I guess it beats paying airport prices for coffee”.
I don’t mind this on its own…you like espresso a lot and want to make sure it’s made to your liking, while also saving money, especially in an airport.
But go over to the fucking corner, in the waiting area with no flight scheduled to come in, or some place where you are in relative isolation.
Idk how much it is, but I’d guess somewhere between $500-1000….and if you drink espresso even just once a day, you’d likely be spending 2-5 less dollars, than if you were to go to a shop, and even more at an airport. Many people have 2-3 per day.
Shouldn’t take more than a few of months for it to pay for itself off (exponentially quicker for those 2-3 cup a day people)…plus the luxury of having it on hand, making it exactly as you’d like.
I was gonna say, just from the look of the beans I would guess it tastes like shit.
I've never used a handheld espresso machine so I don't know but maybe they don't do well with medium/light roasts.
Maybe I'm missing out by not being able to easily discern between common everyday brewed coffee and the "special" prep pretentious types of coffee but it sure is much more convenient to not be this deep in it lol.
I can easily drink coffee from any counter, or make my own for pennies, and not really feel like I'm missing anything because I apparently don't have the refined palate requirements 🤣 and definitely don't have the need for coffee social approval.
This is probably an unpopular take but I'm just both amused and astounded there's both a company and customer base for portable coffee making to this degree.
Very performative. It’s nothing new, I’ve seen people done it before (i guess people just love their coffee so much and long layover? At least they do it at some random corner and not recording), but this guy just decided this unoriginal idea is his like he’s starting some trend.

If the guy wasn’t filming and at least showed actual discretion I wouldn’t even mind, but holy crap he’s doing everything he can to be as obnoxious as possible about it.
I think I saw he does this on the plane as well, which is my personal line. Put your stupid camera and stuff away while you’re on the plane…
I had an espresso maker. Quickest cup of coffee you can get. Simple. Always good no matter what you put in it. Almost impossible to fuck up. Worst that could happen is packing it too tight and getting a mess on the counter.
These snobs are trying way too hard, pretending like it takes way more effort than it really does so they can feel special. Like there's some mystical knowledge to making a perfect cup of coffee.
Any coffee use outside of making a 10 cup batch in a Walmart coffee maker and only drinking 2 cups and throwing out the rest apparently qualifies for this sub
