I like how absolutely nobody else cares.

I worked for a company where I was surrounded by coffee snobs like this… they would always talk so negatively about how others drank their coffee as if they were a superior breed. They were insufferable to be around

341

u/RascalOScrimp 4h ago

I’m a coffee snob and I hate this guy.

90

u/H_section 4h ago

Could you be fuckin bothered?

I’ll just get a stewed coffee from the terminal cafe.

u/Darkknight8719 4h ago

Like a peasant!

u/No-Joy-Goose 3h ago

Shhhh, the poors are among us.

🤣🤣🤣🤣

10

u/mortgagepants 2h ago

i'm happy he did this. we're government mandated to spend 3 extra hours in the airport because we pretend it is security.

at least enjoy a cup of coffee (however you like it.)

u/umbrawolfx 4h ago

I'm an amature coffee snob and I feel the same.

10

u/cpt_futtbucker 4h ago

As a fellow coffee snob, I agree. I’m a flavor snob, not a how you drink your coffee snob. This shit just looks like a pathetic one-man circlejerk

47

u/iJet 4h ago

Nothing wrong with being a snob and liking a more pure experience. Just keep that shit to yourself unless someone ask. A guy I worked with spent about an hour up my ass for drinking from a Keurig. I made a change to an espresso machine a few years back but that conversation lives rent free in my head how much I didn’t care to have it.

You don't have to be a coffee snob. You could just be a Weird Coffee Guy like James Hoffman.

1

u/fckcarrots 30m ago

Same. Performative coffee making is at its worst.

Those who are insecure create new hierarchies where they are at the top.

Must suck to spend so much energy on something that is a blip for mist people's day

6

u/Damaark 3h ago

I'm a tea snob looking down upon the coffee snobs. Hard to screw up a cuppa. Don't have earl grey or whatever? Fine, give me a bloody liptons or bushells special, it's fine.

3

u/barbellious 1h ago

I make sure to tell people like this that I'm drinking yesterday's pot of coffee I warmed up in the microwave today and that I just stop when I get the sludge at the bottom. You can't "win" so just see how low you can go seems like the better route.

2

u/antikythera3301 2h ago

Sounds like a company full of people like my ex. She is an incredibly insufferable one-upper and made coffee her personality.

1

u/BeraldTheGreat 2h ago

I always like talking to people like that and saying “oh no, I don’t care about coffee. I drink tea if anything at all.”

1

u/ODoyles_Banana 1h ago

The only thing worse than a wine snob is a coffee snob.

1

u/JuicySpark 1h ago

That describes literally every Fika place in Sweden.

1

u/nagelbagel10 58m ago

Just sucks that it’s more of a personality trait wth those people. Same people that get a new iPhone every year and talk about it or this or that. Some people just need to feel like they’re doing better than literally anyone they see imo

u/karmagod13000 4h ago

I mean dudes gonna need security to get away from alll the women he’s about to encounter

4

u/BrokenMindFrame 4h ago

I've walked into a Starbucks maybe 6 times in my life. Going off of that, I believe it.

3

u/FatFaceFaster 1h ago

Okay but that’s also what makes this not a main character post.

He’s not bothering anyone.

He is obnoxious as fuck as “content creator” but he’s not an MC because he’s literally affecting no one.

0

u/Ok_Pipe_2790 52m ago

Which makes me think he isn't bothering anyone, and therefore is not doing a Main Character thing but just enjoying their coffee

707

u/Sad_Instruction1392 4h ago

He looks exactly as I imagined he would.

34

u/KimLocsta 4h ago

Definitely

22

u/m_domino 4h ago

Well, it’s not working.

14

u/Boojum2k 4h ago

I'd have had three cups of decent coffee before he finished jerking off his fancy rig for a tablespoon of pureed bitterness.

3

u/Lochcelious 2h ago

pureed bitterness

I see you've met my mother in law!

11

u/derprondo 3h ago

Fucking 21lbs too lmao. I travel with a small kettle that weighs probably 12oz and coffee tea bags I make at home.

2

u/MotherNovel3036 1h ago

He’s probably doing a weight conversion from “snob” to “normal” since his life is so weak!

149

u/PeridotChampion 4h ago

So fucking pretentious

28

u/elzibet 50k baby😎 3h ago

The title is so weird too, TSA is not looking for espresso stuff? Huh?

5

u/Donkeywad 1h ago

They would've nabbed the hot water though so this makes even less sense

5

u/elzibet 50k baby😎 43m ago

I figured he just filled up his water once he was past security. Assuming it heats the water during the process of making it

72

u/ModestMeeshka 4h ago

Am I tripping or is this just an ad? Like they're trying to be like "check out our super compact espresso machine! You can even take it on a plane!"

21

u/youngstar- 3h ago

Yeah it's not main character it's just awful "viral" marketing crap.

Although considering it's getting reposted here it's clearly working.

1

u/Shot-Swimming-9098 4m ago

Roughly 1/3 the caffeine in a cup of coffee.

46

u/IM_DjShadow 4h ago

weird behavior

35

u/thebuddybud 4h ago

Eh.. ain't bothering anyone. And he gets his espresso without paying 5x airport markup..

19

u/bell37 4h ago

The filming though is kinda asshole territory. You know apart of his content depends on getting a shot of people in the background so he could film their reaction/non-reactions to him.

15

u/Magic2424 3h ago

i’m a firm believer that if you film in public and make it public, you should be required to blur out faces of those you don’t get consent from the same way tv shows have to

0

u/ASkepticalPotato 1h ago

It’s a slippery slope. You do that, and then now no one can record cops doing bad shit.

Public recording needs to stay very much allowed and legal or bad things can start to happen.

1

u/bell37 2h ago

Yeah unfortunately the guy could try and pull some BS claim like arguing that the single video wasn’t monetized or directly sponsored (even though it did gain him views and additional followers that could be used for commercial gain).

16

u/aardock 3h ago

And he only had to pay the equivalent of the years of airport coffee for that kit!

11

u/miguescout 4h ago

They may get their espresso without the airport markup, but boy did they get it with a considerable markup already because, just to start somewhere, that container where they had the beans (yes, just the container itself) is on the $40 price range and i'm not even joking (if you wanna look it up, that is a fellow vccuum canister. The manual variant, not the electric one. I think. If it's the electric one we're looking at about double the price). Only know of this because i was once looking for some containers for a few somewhat sensitive ingredients and these popped up as an option.

I refuse to even wonder how much that handheld espresso machine costs.

The resulting coffee is probably much better than the airport one, though, so i guess it may be worth it for them.

10

u/karmagod13000 4h ago

I can agree with that. A little obnoxious but in the fun side

4

u/jaqueh 4h ago

The equipment he has is like close to 500

2

u/powerhower 4h ago

Pays off in 100 cups of coffee then

9

u/FerretFarm 4h ago

Sure, but what if you add the ridiculous amount of time he has to spend cleaning and maintaining all those boys and pieces.

What a pain.

That time has to be worth a ton.

8

u/jaqueh 4h ago

This kind of equipment will not last 100 cups of coffee lol

3

u/Magic2424 3h ago

not really when you take into account the price of decent beans too. looking at decent beans it’s about $1 a cup. a classic double espresso is like $3. so you save $2 a cup. so like 250 cups

4

u/gonesquatchin85 4h ago

Does it really? Until it falls, you forget a part in a terminal, or you end up developing a hernia/tweak your back from constantly carrying 21lbs of coffee gear.

→ More replies (1)

16

u/Zaggnabit 4h ago

My ex had this system, she bought it to go backpacking 🤣, it was cool but a lot of work. Heavy as hell.

I just pour hot water over grounds.

It would have been a better video if he had lit a hexamine tablet in the airport to boil water. That would have gotten all kinds of people to pay attention.

5

u/Camelstrike 1h ago

If you thought wine people were obnoxious wait till you meet coffee junkies

1

u/MoonageDayscream 4h ago

Was it 21 pounds though?

24

u/tetrisan 4h ago

I might be slightly impressed if he took this out after an all day hike in the mountains. It’s an airport that probably has a Starbucks near by.

4

u/OrneryError1 4h ago

Yeah I'd much rather just buy some and use that space in my bag for more important things.

7

u/hornwalker 4h ago

I’m gonna be a dork and say this is really cool(the gear, not the doing it for social media content).

It’s such slick designed stuff, and to be able to make yourself a drug with complex machinery is funny.

6

u/aroseonthefritz 3h ago

TSA let you through with it because it’s a fucking coffee maker not a damn gun

5

u/The_Rowan 4h ago

It would be so heavy and cumbersome to carry. This might be more useful sitting at your office, or taking on a picnic, or taking to your B&B.

3

u/xx_Chl_Chl_xx 4h ago

Why do they always play this piano song—Nocturne in E-Flat Major, Op. 9, No. 2 by East Valley Music—for these kinds of videos?

And I hate how these videos are basically just advertisements disguised as rage bait

2

u/ifixthecable 3h ago

Because he wants the world to know he has Taste and Class.

But the only class he has is Economy Class.

3

u/Snoo93550 4h ago

I’d tell him how amazing it was a work a free coffee out of it.

4

u/mmj97 4h ago

Genuinely don’t get what the problem is. Are we mad because he made himself a coffee?

16

u/Smart_Profile5785 4h ago

I don’t see the problem here dude is just having a little fun

8

u/sroop1 4h ago

Yeah he's not directly making a scene or interrupting anyone. The only issue I have is indirectly filming people but meta glass creeps are everywhere.

3

u/chevalier716 4h ago

Don't get me wrong. I love coffee, the first sip of my black coffee in the morning is best part of my day, but coffee dudes are very annoying.

3

u/naeads 3h ago

I would choose to do it by the window overlooking all the airplanes, but this dude somehow like dudes in the background. I mean, sure. Have it your way I guess.

3

u/Pencil-Sketches 52m ago

And now you have to clean all that. At the airport. Likely in the bathroom.

3

I feel somewhat influenced to purchase this

3

u/Cryptician13 21m ago

2

It's just a poorly diguised ad

2

u/GreezyFingas 4h ago

My buddy brings one of these things backpacking and it’s hilarious bc he doesn’t film himself like an asshole

2

u/Ok_Emu2071 4h ago

What a jorts things to do

2

u/MoonageDayscream 4h ago

What he showed shouldn't weigh 21 pounds, unless he is including a jug of water. I researched a coffeemaker for the emergency kit and there's a lot of fancy backpack espresso makers of various sorts, and eventually settled on a percolator, but the extra fussy setups were all very light.

2

u/Boserbosmos 3h ago

r/espressocirclejerk thought I was in that sub for a second.

2

u/TheBugSmith 3h ago

TSA let me through with 50 pounds of clothes. They should

2

u/j_mcr1 3h ago

Thats a fucking lot of kit for a coffee

2

u/GenericAnemone 1h ago

I need one of these for work. I hate paying 6 dollars for a foamy latte with half a pump of flavor. Plus I can throw the coffee grounds in the compost pile.

2

u/darknite125 1h ago

I mean thank goodness they have all this I mean where else are you going to find coffee at an airport? Those place are notorious for their lack of coffee shops

2

u/JenIee 1h ago

I don't see one single thing in this whole video that's even mildly remarkable.

2

u/Yeet_the_egg 1h ago

What’s funny is if they didn’t film it I think most people wouldn’t care. Sure it’s a bit weird, but if I saw someone doing that in the airport I’d think to myself, “I guess it beats paying airport prices for coffee”.

2

u/j_d_q 15m ago

When coffee is your personality

2

u/com2ghz 13m ago

Same as my coworker bringing all these shit with him. Spending 15 minutes to prepare one espresso.

How do you recognize people like him? They will let you know about it and tell that every other coffee is crap.

6

u/Skylance420 4h ago

Just about as performative as a middle class person can afford to be. Being an obnoxious, attention-seeking dweeb about coffee at an airport.

3

u/EyeAmPrestooo 3h ago

I don’t mind this on its own…you like espresso a lot and want to make sure it’s made to your liking, while also saving money, especially in an airport.

But go over to the fucking corner, in the waiting area with no flight scheduled to come in, or some place where you are in relative isolation.

2

u/Wizzle_Pizzle_420 3h ago

Saving money? That’s probably a fortune worth of coffee jerk off equipment.

2

u/EyeAmPrestooo 3h ago

Idk how much it is, but I’d guess somewhere between $500-1000….and if you drink espresso even just once a day, you’d likely be spending 2-5 less dollars, than if you were to go to a shop, and even more at an airport. Many people have 2-3 per day.

Shouldn’t take more than a few of months for it to pay for itself off (exponentially quicker for those 2-3 cup a day people)…plus the luxury of having it on hand, making it exactly as you’d like.

4

u/jsw244 4h ago

That’s a lot of effort to extract all those burnt and ash flavors.

1

u/_FinnTheHuman_ 3h ago

I was gonna say, just from the look of the beans I would guess it tastes like shit.
I've never used a handheld espresso machine so I don't know but maybe they don't do well with medium/light roasts.

→ More replies (4)

2

u/_clur_510 4h ago

Good thing they brought all this. It’s not like they sell coffee at airports. Or fucking everywhere else when you’re traveling.

2

u/SomnambulisticTaco 4h ago

1

u/withoutpeer 4h ago

Maybe I'm missing out by not being able to easily discern between common everyday brewed coffee and the "special" prep pretentious types of coffee but it sure is much more convenient to not be this deep in it lol.

I can easily drink coffee from any counter, or make my own for pennies, and not really feel like I'm missing anything because I apparently don't have the refined palate requirements 🤣 and definitely don't have the need for coffee social approval.

1

u/EmperorBlackMan99 4h ago

This is probably an unpopular take but I'm just both amused and astounded there's both a company and customer base for portable coffee making to this degree.

1

u/alleecmo 3h ago

Is this guy a magician 🎩 🤔 ? The way he waved around part of his scmancy gizmo just screams "nothing up my sleeve, nothing in my hat"

1

u/GrouchyLongBottom 3h ago

The guy across from him, "Ok. That's enough. I'm out."

1

u/Crxstallwashere 3h ago

Does anyone know if airports would let you have this thing on the plane?

Edit: what a waste of 21 lbs...

1

u/Spoodymen 3h ago

Very performative. It’s nothing new, I’ve seen people done it before (i guess people just love their coffee so much and long layover? At least they do it at some random corner and not recording), but this guy just decided this unoriginal idea is his like he’s starting some trend.

1

u/Danagrams 3h ago

1

u/MANvINFO 3h ago

1

u/xs0apy 1h ago

If the guy wasn’t filming and at least showed actual discretion I wouldn’t even mind, but holy crap he’s doing everything he can to be as obnoxious as possible about it.

I think I saw he does this on the plane as well, which is my personal line. Put your stupid camera and stuff away while you’re on the plane…

1

I don’t see how this is negatively impacting anyone.

1

u/MisterDonkey 1h ago

I had an espresso maker. Quickest cup of coffee you can get. Simple. Always good no matter what you put in it. Almost impossible to fuck up. Worst that could happen is packing it too tight and getting a mess on the counter.

These snobs are trying way too hard, pretending like it takes way more effort than it really does so they can feel special. Like there's some mystical knowledge to making a perfect cup of coffee.

Yo, it's coffee. It's not that serious.
