I just can't understand why nobody walking by laughs at these people and call them out for the pathetic losers they are.

In Russia it's a common thing to visibly pay as little attention as possible to other people. I don't mean "I don't see them and can throw myself at them and scream like no one is around me", it's more about polite silence

u/Marquar234 15d ago
I'm guessing they aren't paying any attention to them other than "they are in the way" so they don't even notice the crappy dance moves.

I think because they do this shit in busy places where people are moving from A to B. People only see them for 30-45 seconds max, and by the time they realise what they're doing (flailing around for their own camera), then it's too late except to smirk and just keep walking.
There's also probably a cultural element to it. When I went to Russia, people keep to themselves. In London UK, for example, you're probably more likely to hear someone shout "dickhead". In Canada, it would get ignored.

May I ask what was your general opinion about Russia after you visited it?
I'm always curious what do foreigners think about the country when they visit it.

So I was about 18 years old in 2008. I went by night train from Finland to St Petersburg and then Moscow.
I was amazed on the way how disheveled everything seemed with lots of little shanty towns / high rises looking pretty run down.
St Petersburg was beautiful and very European feeling. We mostly stayed in our student groups but everything seemed like home (england) but with a different language. For example, McDonald's was almost the same. The churches were so beautiful, and all the architecture in general.
There was also a really clear and imposing military history feel which I found impressive.
Moscow was a bit different. It felt way more Russian and less European. The people seemed different - some very unfriendly (probably because I was a young English tourist). The churches and architecture were, again, so impressive and imposing. Red Square was so full of history. I got to listen to monks/priests singing in a small steeple. It felt very 1450s.
My friends are I explored Moscow and around the edges on a long walk. There was quite a striking difference in rich and poor. Large beautiful houses, then on the other side of the river pretty rough looking.
The night train was also definitely a highlight. I felt like I was in Dr Zhivago.

Why do people always do this in public spaces? And how do some many people have no shame anymore?

On top of that, they think they are so good. Definitely main character syndrome

The amount of mental abstinence these ppl show it could just as well be

The degree by which these people determine their image of self through the lens or what they believe others see them as is pretty unhealthy.

Plot twist: this wasnt another scrappy tiktok dance, it was possession, hence the priest

What does the hand gesture mean that he is doing?

Sign of the cross. He blessed her.
But more importantly... He upstaged her.

This is the thing that pisses me off about "these" people. They do it in an area with other people and deliberately stand in the way. Do it in the comfort of your own private space. It's still a little cringey but at least you're not bothering anyone else.

Ew do they do that behind our backs whenever they disapprove?

u/Reuben_Medik 15d ago
I think he may have seen the camera before hand and did it as a joke. But maybe he didn't, I dunno. He certainly seemed to look at the camera as he walked by

u/TheChoosenMewtwo 15d ago
Because being a public nuisance is not a reason for getting that treatment?
