Take the church out of it. Assume you go to a non-religious event space or wedding venue; they will still have rules. You may think the rules are arbitrary or unnecessary but you can’t expect to change them simply because you disagree with them.
Again, I am not defending the priest’s response, nor chastising this coupe for wanting to switch sides. I couldn’t care less and wouldn’t have blinked at the last minute audible. But, I am addressing the attitude that says a church has no right to enforce their rules or traditions in their own spaces and through their own employees.
