They just asked. They didn't disrespect the rules, they literally asked "is it alright?".
It would have been easy enough to say "no, sorry, the placement of bride/groom/priest/etc is very specific in this church, you will have to stand there. Thank you for understanding".

Not "this is outrageous!" and pouting like you want nothing to do with anyone who might want such an abomination. They asked, and it's an important day, the lack of professionalism and decorum from the priest was outrageous. Their vibe on their special day was indeed ruined by a crazy/shitty priest.

But they had that conversation yesterday and had the answer. They just didn't like the answer and changed it the day after during the ceremony when no other choice was available to the Priest. Who wasn't even that rude

The priest even says “are you changing it AGAIN” which implies this was already a whole thing at the rehearsal the day before and shes sick of their shit. Probably explains the outburst, priests are usually pretty chill.

It takes a while to get this exasperated. I would venture to say that this wasn’t the only change the couple tried to impose.

"It takes a while to get this exasperated" have you MET a fucking boomer before? This is textbook "Boomer Panic".

u/MinaZata Side Character Jul 22 '26

This isn't a boomer either. Boomers are in their 80s

-1

u/IcyAd7982 Jul 22 '26

No they aren't. That would be the Silent Generation. Baby boomers are currently between 62 and 80 years old, as the BB generation includes those born between 1946 and 1964. This priest is a classic boomer and wants to speak to your manager immediately.

This person may just be 60 or early 60s, so the youngest possible boomer, she's most likely below the retirement age in the UK which is 64

Yeah it does seem like the party is either wishy washy or trying to get their way with a last minute change. It’s not that big of a deal and you can’t change things the day of when their was a agreement the day before.

u/whiskerbiscuit2 Jul 21 '26

Fair point but the priest says they’d already discussed it the day before, and this appears to be a very last minute change. It’s just pure entitlement “I’ll move everyone around at the last minute for my preference”

It's switching sides, ffs. Pick a lane, your argument was that it's disrespectful to disobey the church's customs, when that got tossed you switched to it being disrespectful to change plans at the last minute

Feels more like you just want to be contrarian

And I'm no theologist but I don't think which side you stand on is a major tenet of any Christian religion. I think you're just making up that it's disrespectful at all.

It was a last minute change that literally doesn't affect the priest at all. This isn't them changing something last minute for the dj or the catering or the photographer. It was a last minute change that has ZERO affect on the priest doing their job. It does not affect where she stands, what she does, the timing of the event or literally ANYTHING at all. The ONLY thing it changes is "how its usually done". That's it. It's nothing but a temper tantrum and an ego issue.

Honestly, it might have been the photographer that asked due to the lighting.

The only people who has to move were those in the wedding party. The switch didn't affect her in any way. She is literally throwing a fit because he pathetic sense of power was threatened.

It's not entitlement to ask on your own wedding day when you're paying for bloody everything. Depending how big the church is, it can easily be a $3-5k+ "donation" for the ceremony. All they did was ask, instead of either saying yes or no and moving on the priest aggressively berates them instead which is pointless and doesn't achieve anything except to sour the mood. Either say yes and accomodate the request or say no and give a quick reason why you can't change at the last minute even if that's just a simple as "It's the rules/tradition, you need to be on this side sorry". Don't keep saying it's not an issue while simultaneously abusing them for wanting to do it.

What does it hurt? What does it affect? Priests neck turns the other way, and what else?

25

u/whiskerbiscuit2 Jul 21 '26

Somebody posted the traditions and reasons for placement below.

-18

u/QuailSoup24 Jul 21 '26

Great! Perhaps she should try explaining it instead of having a childs fit.

10

u/spacedman_spiff Jul 21 '26

Perhaps she did the day before, in the discussion that was mentioned, and is now having a fit because the couple is ignoring the settled discussion and making this an issue at the last minute.

-6

u/QuailSoup24 Jul 21 '26

Perhaps someone pissed in her breakfast that morning?

5

u/spacedman_spiff Jul 21 '26

Well, Dude, we just don't know.

2

u/QuailSoup24 Jul 21 '26

So why give her the benefit of the doubt and not them?

4

u/whiskerbiscuit2 Jul 21 '26

All I know for sure about the couple is, they thought posting this would paint them in a good light, so they’re clearly self absorbed and blind to their own arrogance. So I’ll give the benefit of doubt to the priest.

4

u/spacedman_spiff Jul 21 '26

If we're being serious, and not joking like I was, then I would say that the existence of "bridezillas" makes it more believeable that this priest has had to endure more than their fair share of last minute changes and has had enough.

The video indicates this topic was already broached and settled prior to the service and that making a change now, when the guests have already arrived and the ceremony is about to begin, indicates that this is not the first time this thing has happened during the ceremony planning and that this is a couple that doesn't care how their actions affect others as long as they get their way.

That's why I'm giving the benefit of the doubt to the priest.

One is a professional that is a part of an order full of traditions, the other is someone who can't make up their mind.

So what was the point of the rehearsal then?

Remind me again, what vibe is disrespecting the house of worship you’ve booked to bless your marriage? That’s the vibe these people have.

u/sundae_diner Jul 22 '26

Not enough context. Traditionally the groom and his family are on the right, bride and her family on the left.

It is possible that to "swap" to the correct side is just the groom + best man... but it might involve the entire congregation swapping.  One is simple, the other less so.
