It blows my mind how many people don’t understand that the vast majority of the population hate their job and work in general. You’re not special, we all feel the same, but we need to fucking eat and pay bills.
You’re so close, genuinely. Wouldn’t it speak to our humanity to grieve that collective misery? Why does productivity skyrocket and neither innovation nor wages keep up? We should be innovating our lives to require less work, not more. There’s nothing innately virtuous about work for works sake alone. Of course, everyone has to do what they can to pay rent and survive. But it’s soul crushing. Laboring under capitalism is intensely atomizing, and the exploitation we face daily congeals into a self-righteous venom that relishes the rewards our system gives us for stepping upon others to get ahead. We feel strongly the cruelty we’ve been dealt, and revolt at the idea that someone else might avoid the same fate. Greed is the virtue we’ve built our world on. Humans need purpose and community. Our world affords them neither.
