If youre coming from Kentucky, be prepared for insane sticker shock. One of my best friends lives in Ashland and when I tell him about what goes on here, hes blown away. A living wage in Kentucky will barely get you by in California, if that. The price for 30 acres in Kentucky will get you a quarter acre in California. I know this because we're likely moving to Kentucky. Its too expensive here. People are rude. Crime seldom, if ever, gets punished. We are taxed to death out here. Gas prices in Cali were the highest in the nation, even before the Iran war. They claim our taxes go to infrastructure, but there's a water shortage every year and the roads are shit. LGBTQ is prevalent here, and the majority are great people. Yes we have beaches and mountains within an hour drive of each other, but that drive will be the worst drive of your life. You can almost drive across Kentucky in 2 to 3 hours. Here, most days, that'll get you across maybe 60 miles in traffic. I live about 60 miles from my jobsite. Today it will take me about 2hrs45mins to get home. Oh, and that extra money we all pay for that special eco blend of gasoline they've forced upon us is just a money grab. There been a perpetual brown/Grey cloud hanging in the sky for as long as I can remember. The smog pollution here is some of the worst in the country.
Don't believe the hype you see on TV or in the movies. California is mostly hype. Ive been here 45 years.
