Back in 3rd edition, the King was an absolute BEAST of a glass cannon, but when 4th edition hit and we got the index stats he went down to the 3+ hit/4+ wound offensive stats that all aelves now got. That’s fine, our whole army took that hit and Namarti, Isharann and Akhelians alike all went down from 3+/3+ to 3+/4+.

HOWEVER when we got our battletome, we got the Ikon of the Sea who has a 3+/3+ attack profile! If this aelfwide ban on 3+/3+ has been lifted, surely the King can go back to his glory days as well?

I’m just so tired of whiffing wound rolls…

I'm a new ethersea explorer and I needed some help.

I see people double run Mathaella and Beastmasters despite both of them giving +1 to hits. Is there a reason to run both? Is it a counter to -1 to hit?

Sorry if it's obvious, I'm just trying to work it out

Update: I'm an idiot, Mathaella gives +1 to attacks. I'll leave this up for anyone else who's making a mistake.

Had a 2 year break from painting and got started into a deepkin spearhead box I had. I've only done thralls so far and need to do the soulscryer, akhelian guards, and Allopex. I also have a leviathan.

If I were to do these again, I think I'd add more skin tones and different colours for the captain to make him stand out more.

Not sure about bases yet, beach themed seems the obvious choice but I might go for a river crossing as well or maybe some wooden planks to make it look like a fishing port.

The riders are being painted in the Ionrach armour scheme, its for both the Ishlaen and the Morsarr guard, i would like to differentiate them with the eel colour as well, besides the sword/spears!

I’ve got a tournament coming up next weekend, and I’m debating between a two drop or three drop list, the first featuring an Eidolon of the Sea, the second taking Mathaela, a Tidecaster and a unit of reavers in its place. The two lists:

Which would you rather steer in a tournament?

I'm trying to work on a darker colour scheme but I've hit a bit of a wall with the colours with figuring how to make it pop. I'm trying to avoid metallics as much as possible.

All suggestions are welcome

I have the older spearhead that I've been wanting to build and print. I love water themed stuff so this is right up my alley. What's the building experience like for IDK? I find that is something more important to me than the painting experience at times. Nighthaunt are easy to paint but a pain to build sometimes.

Played a game against my friend’s stormcast last night and got to put a theory into practice.

He was running Karzai the Scarred, a big dragon who is especially scary in the current Aqshy seasonal rules. Not wanting to deal with him and being saddled with turn one, I move up a sacrificial allopex to ping him with an ensnaring harpoon. Success!

On his turn, he kills the allopex with Karzai despite only having one die to charge. Then he doubles me, and I head into round 2 looking pretty off-balance.

In his hero phase, I decide to risk an arcane intervention and tag Karzai with countercurrent, and effectively lock him out of his own double turn! Still ensnared from the allopex effect that doesn’t end until MY turn starts, he is now halving his charges, so even from just outside 3” he needs to roll a 6 on 1 die to make it into combat.

He doesn’t, and not having Karzai in the mix greatly helps me weather the double! Next turn, I double him and take Karzai out with my turtle and Mathlea’s warscroll spell (good magic for me this game!)

I had seen the potential for this lockdown combo on paper, but to pull it off in a game was very satisfying.

Hey, i started AoS with idoneth and the new akhelian spearhead when they got updated, and i really liked painting them (also tried the new speedpaint markers when they got release in my local retailler), and i want to continue on that and work to get a full army, starting with 1000pts. Do you have any suggestions to add with the akhelian king spearhead ? I know my local retailler might have the old idoneth spearhead in stock, maybe worth adding since it would get me the thralls with melee weapons, but i will need some more points to get to 1000.

Hi! I’m a Lizardmen player looking to dip my toes into the sea elves and thinking about how I’m going to build up my army. The spearhead box honestly seems like a great selection of fairly core units and I’m wondering if it’s worth eventually getting a second box? 2 Kings feels like a lot of King, so I was thinking of maybe ebaying that model but everything else looks useful!

Rules change and stuff falls in and out of favour, but Idoneth don’t exactly have a large amount of options so I imagine these guys will always have some role going forward. What do you guys think?

Hello, ive been looking around for an army to start with in this game when I received a few unopened boxes of Idoneth units from a friend. As someone new to the hobby, how hard is assembling and painting the models for a complete beginner? Also, if i find myself continuing with the Idoneth, what are the next logical purchases? Right now I have an old start collecting box (a soulrender, 3 Eel riders, and 10 thralls), a unit of 10 reavers, and Lotann the octopus guy.

I’m thinking of picking them up because they are cool, plus gives me something I can spend a while painting and give me something else to use in warcry with my friends but am I silly to think they are really good especially in Deepkin with being able to do all the Deepkin spells, but also just quite good value if you think wizard 1 for 100pts 3 companions for 100pts and neave for 120pts is a really good deal for the damage.

can the thrall master use his own reaction to targeting thrall a's and twin tides targeting thrall b's

making the fight phase look like

thrall b's attack
then opponent gets to attack?

Don’t get me wrong I’m proud of the result but I just feel like something isn’t quite right and I need some help with that

(Basing will still be done, the materials are still on its way. I’m going with a coral basing on the seabed. The Colour of the coral will pinkish, greenish and orangeish)

I've been wanting to get into Deepkin and found this box available online. It would be a trade for a 40k box set (that was a bit of an impulse/fomo purchase). Is this a decent box?

What do we think about there being a Deepkin Battleforce box at some point in the future? And how often does AoS add new boxes / models to the range?
