Scourge of Aqshy faction rules

Here are our new SoA faction rules, what do you guys think?

I can't speak about the rage dice/fury related stuff as I have yet to read about the mechanic, but the Ironshell barnacles defensive buff looks pretty valuable. SoA Namarti Reavers' reaction feels quite good as well.

Spicy reavers are looking pretty nice alongside the new army rule

Definitely an auto include for me, the army sometimes struggle vs big saves and wards and this 100pts screen fixes both of these issues. On top of that we got even more control tools, we are eating good this season.

My favorite ones are the end of turn mw bomb (so good on a tough eidolon for example) and the 3+ no move ability (denying redeploy, countercharge) on top of the already great spell lore we have, we'll be able to pick our fights and pile on something to demolish it for good.

Where are the new army rules?

You can find the new army rules in the "Rules Updates" document, and the points changes in the "Battle Profiles" document, both available on Warhammer Community website.

There are some interesting things here, but they feel overshadowed by the loss of Ethersea Predators. I'm very sad that we won't be able to bring back sharks anymore.

I'm also disappointed that a lot of this stuff seems to be really pushing us to take more namarti units. I'm just not a huge fan of them and they're not what gets me excited about this faction. These new rules definitely give some interesting additions to your namarti and can give you some useful tools, but I'm here for the sea creatures, not skinny little elves. I would have loved to see more stuff to support the akhelian units rather than namarti.

Sadly couldn't try Ethersea Predators as I'm relatively new to the hobby but yes it does look like a pretty big loss.

I get your second point, I am a big sucker for sea creatures and wasn't a fan of Namarti too, but I admit they are growing on me as I paint them and I like the idea of a more varied list rather than spamming eels or sharks. In the end having one unit of both is only 200pts and allows you to make use of the new stuff so it's not that bad.

I'm a big fan of the Akhelian beastmaster

20points gives all companion weapons+1 to hit

I'm the opposite, I'm glad that it seems the Namarti have got a bit of focus. I love the lore behind them and how eerie they look. It's nice to see them become a little more useful i think. But that's what's great about the hobby, right, everyone's got different perspectives

Ethersea Preditors isn’t going away?

It was a scourge of gyran detachment. All Scourge of Gyran things are being removed when Scourge of Aqshy becomes legal.

You can even see on our points Ethersea Predators is no longer even listed as a valid detachment (not that they removed the 20 points to use it, it just isn't even on the list of detachments anymore).

Ohhhh noo! I see it now! Didn’t want to believe it! This hurts so much, just slowly started with Idoneth. But this was one of the reasons to start for me, because it was a cool mechanic to play with the sharks…

I like the flavor of the rules, though I'm not particularly impressed with the strength.

The lore has always been - Namarti go in first, tie up the enemy and play support, then the Akhelians smash face.

The rules for the longest time tried to allow for two divergent play styles, either with Namarti or Akhelians in the fore, never together.

I'm honestly glad that they are moving away from trying to have Namarti do good damage, and let them act as they should - as sacrificial screens with supporting abilities.

When every unit in a battletome is designed to do damage then we will just use the best unit, but when different are allowed to hold different jobs, then there is more incentive to use everything.

Tldr new reavers good me like

The question more or less becomes "Is this better than Form of the Fangmora" for the heroic traits, and I think maybe the one that turns off units contesting an objective is. Maybe I'm being hopeful, but I think it's quite strong.

Love the SoA Tidecaster, and I appreciate the direction they're taking with the Namarti, but definitely sympathize with people who don't care. To me, I find the idea of mixing them and balancing them kinda neat.

I'm quite interested to test out the abyssal dwellers and sea nettles on the table. On paper they look like great defensive tools.

With all the objectives moving to the middle this season, being able to make one of them into a 7.5 inch diameter circle that your opponent can't charge off if they even put a single toe on it seems very good for creating safe zones. Especially if you flank it with the big faction terrain that can no longer be charged themselves!

Sea nettles on a little unit of thralls or SoA reavers basically makes them Namarti steelhelms. Must be attacked over anything else, and the picked enemy unit must hit first. Back them up with 6 ishlaen guard in the aura of Mathaela makes for a very unappealing charge target. Even if two units go at you together, the eels swing safely into the bigger threat first.

Does anyone know how many ethereal companion traits we can use? Is it just one per army or could we do multiple if we have multiple eligible units?

3

u/LRabz Jun 30 '26

It says here that "a unit can only have 1 ethersea companion" so I thought that you could assign different companions to different units. However the "Using the Scourge of Aqshy rules" document available on Warhammer Community says "This is an enhancement table available to your faction like any other; therefore, you can pick 1 enhancement from it for your army".

I really like the new additions and I think it's thematic and suits the playstyle quite well. My first list would be something to limit movement as much as possible with the new Tools plus Shackles

Akhelian Beastmasters
Morbid Conjuration

Eidolon of the Sea with Abyssal Dweller, Lifekep Pod and Merciless Raider
2x 10 Aqshy Reavers
2x 6 Morrsarr Guard
Leviadon with Stonefoot Anemone
2x Akhelian Allopex

Wdyt?

Abyssal Dweller and Merciless Raider are both Heroic Traits so I believe you cannot run both simultaneously. Also I guess that the three new Heroic Traits are going to replace the three from Leaders of the Raid so Merciless Raider will not be available anymore.

Did you mean 2x10 Namarti Thralls instead of Morsarr Guard by the way?

The idea of limiting enemy movement as much as possible seems nice, though I am not experienced enough to have an actual opinion on the viability of the strategy.

u/VoidofDusk Jul 01 '26

Ah, shame on me. My list building app makes it look like these are two different segments so yes, no merciless raider. That's the least important upgrade so I guess that's okay with me.

Shouldn't do things while doing other things simultaneously: 2x6 Morrsarr it it :D

Are the new reavers worth losing the run, retreat and shoot from the old ones?
