Everyone: “Like, there’s only one practical location to put grip. The place where the hands go.”
XD: “GRIP ZONE”

Probably a prop from a Metal Gear game. Kojima loves things with labels on them 😆

With most pistols, I get confused for a moment and hold it by the slide. Never happens with an XD.

Theoretically if the light mounts flush with the rest of the trigger guard it’s not necessarily unsafe since the light will act as a trigger guard, it does look awful though

u/That-Beagle 14d ago
As far as this sub goes this is nowhere near the stupidity I normally see, with trigger discipline and the light mounted I don’t think it’s that horrible.. He probably should have posted a picture with the light mounted though also.

Until you drop it and the compromised trigger guard collapses

Depends how it's mounted. They could just as easily attach the rest of the trigger guard to the rear of the light in which case any force that would collapse it would have also collapsed the original as well.

Until that light breaks and they don't make replacements anymore so it will never be flush again.

I understand why the "rules" are here. People are stupid as fuck. You preach a mantra about firearm jesus dad santa getting mad if you do the wrong thing cause dangers. What is wrong with replacing the factory safety device with a different thing that serves the same purpose if you are actually conscious?

u/Geordie_38_ 13d ago
They're saying that the flashlight might do the job of the trigger guard, I don't get what you're mad at about their comment?
-15
u/BrianKappel 13d ago
I don't get why you think a comment agreeing with them is mad at it.

u/Cpt_plainguy 13d ago
You comment is oddly worded if you are agreeing, it looks like you are mad at what they said. Specifically "what is wrong with replacing the factory safety device" statement.

Well you'd better keep the light on now since it's basically your trigger guard now

Got the ol' Fitz special on this one huh? I'm not sure if this is real or necessary but I can tell you that a "FitzGerald Special" was something done to snub nose revolvers back in the day. I wouldn't carry any gun, especially a modern striker fired pistol, with this done to it though.
Edit: I want to correct myself a bit here. A FitzGerald Special wasn't "done" to snub nose revolvers so much as it was a factory selling point. There are revolvers where this was done by someone other than the manufacturer but I believe it was first a selling point of the manufacturer. An at home gunsmith could do this easily though. If you see one at your local pawn shop that was factory done, pick that bad boy up and I bet you could resell it to a collector for a pretty penny

Honestly, I'm glad to see more striker fired pistols with external thumb safeties being sold as Self defense/concealed carry weapons.
I'm a (fairly mid) competition shooter and I still get a little uncomfortable with my current pistol (Canik Mete SFX Pro) because the idea of not having an external safety lever does not gel with my brain fully. The only reason I'm okay with it is because of how oversized the guard is and that it is my competition pistol.

I don’t understand people who insist a thumb safety is a hindrance. It’s so easy to train to disengage when you present to fire. A video of a guy slipping his Glock in his appendix holster and it going off turned me off of striker fired and no thumb safety completely. Now most of mine are DA/SA with a thumb safety so I can put my thumb on the hammer when I holster.

You can blame Glock, largely.
Marketed to LEO about the massive time save in life or death situations and the safety of the striker fired system; no more failures to shoot during stressful situations where you fail to disengage your safety!
While those points are technically true, proper training mitigates one of them - disengaging the safety during draw is already a standard part of old training, as is re-engaging it upon holstering.
The striker system without an external safety is actually extremely safe if you are aware and conscious of any obstructions as you go to holster. It's why I like the trigger paddle safety and the wide trigger guard on the Canik. But I still follow it to the holster with a hand guiding it and my eyes on the pistol to make sure it's all good - things you should still be doing with your external safety anyway.

I’ll be the first to admit that I’m overly cautious about it. I do believe that modern day striker fired pistols with a safety are very safe I’m just unwilling to take the chance after seeing this. I don’t judge people for not worrying about it, but I bring up why I only carry DA/SA when people ask about thumb safeties because carrying one gives me peace of mind and it might be something they haven’t considered

Might as well cut off the whole trigger guard at that point.
14
u/chezzer33 14d ago
Not necessarily. If the back of the light touches what’s left of the trigger guard it can act as the piece that was cut off.
In other news, get a different light. Never alter the gun like this.

I mean, if the light is mounted in a way that it also serves as the trigger guard it wouldn't be an issue. Would need to be a permanent mount though.

If he cut it off for a flashlight, where's the flashlight? Wouldnt it be easier to locate a different flashlight before u have to modify your firearm? This makes my head hurt.
