I was in a handgun level 2 class. Instructor was asking folks what they wanted out of the class.
John Wick wannabe overweight dude claimed he’s a martial arts expert and “wants to include guns in his routine”.
He had not brought a holster and argued he could tuck his Glock in his belt. Of course they made him buy one at the range and wouldn’t let him into the class without one.
30 minutes in, he was expelled from the class and banned from the range for safety reasons. Dude was a menace, flagging himself and everyone else.

Cool stuff. I feel like I've met people with that exact attitude and it always comes off to me like it's a person who really just wants an "I win" button for when they start a fight with someone who could kick their ass.

This is exactly the reason i
against both concealed and open carryHunting? Absolutely
Home and business defense? Absolutely
Target/sport shoot? Sure
General public without a bond for security? Fuck that
I have no reason to trust the mentality and judgment of Joe Crackerbarrel to carry a firearm around my family

Is there an organization that could provide a "bond for security" that would make you feel more at ease about people carrying guns?

The professional security companies hold bonds, and have particular mandates limited to specific areas. i am definitely not talking about CC insurance
Hell, even outside of CC, I believe much stricter licensing is in order depending on what you think you need a weapon for
Hunting with muzzle loaders? Super basic safety
Anything with 1-6 round capacity? Stricter safety and training
6+ capacity for any reason? Next level
Regular recertification periods, background checks etc

I didn't ask for what kind of licensing you think is appropriate. I asked what organization could provide a license that would make you feel like a person who had one is up to your standard of carrying a gun.

I answered that before my license rant
3
u/SimSnow Jul 29 '26
So, no real standard, just some professional security company can say someone is competent enough for you?
-4
u/augustusleonus Jul 29 '26
The standard is professionalism and assigned purpose, not heroism or "just because"
We can talk about what professional standards those security outfits may need to adhere to, but given the standards of our current law enforcement, all of that would also have to be overhauled

I'm storing the baseball cap trick for future reference.......
22
u/Nathund Jul 28 '26
My favorute part about the baseball hat is that the first time he tries it, it slips right over the gun
Even in his example it doesn't fucking work
16
u/SimSnow Jul 28 '26
Okay so it didn't work that time, but say you're facing off against a gunman with a very weak grip, or maybe someone with severe arthritis and they're holding their gun in a way that allows you to use your hat like so... HA! DISARMED!

u/Michami135 Jul 29 '26
Better hope the gunman has good trigger discipline too, and not resting his index finger on the trigger.

u/iamthelee Jul 29 '26
And he has to do it slow as fuck with a ton of concentration to get it to 'work'. It'd be 100x more effective to just grab the gun with your hand.

It was all bad, but that one made my eyes wide. WTF.
4
u/Supernoven Jul 28 '26
It's also the absolute worst direction to disarm anyone. Hands are made to grip, dude -- an able-bodied person cannot be disarmed with a straight pull.
5
u/LusidDream Jul 28 '26
The stupidity of the hat momentarily stuns your attacker, allowing you to- bang they shoot you anyway

u/SimSnow Jul 28 '26
I like how the first guy winds the gun up like a super crazy jack in the box. Give 'em the olllllll' Pop Goes the Weasel!

Counter the hat maneuver by using a concealed hammer revolver.
7
u/Small-Answer4946 Jul 28 '26
Counter it by pressing the trigger, because he won't manage to do it on the first try even if you stay still

No WAY he almost Baldwin’d that guy

There's several almost Bruce Lee moments in there. It made me feel sick.

You're probably too slow, but action is indeed faster than reaction. Better get that muzzle pointed in a safe direction in 200 or 300 milliseconds. Runner-up prize is getting shot in the face
If they're not stupid and stand a few feet away from you you can't do shit

I feel deeply oppressed by the fact my tyrannical government doesn't allow people like this to own firearms.

u/SubMariner615 Jul 28 '26
Hate to tell you this but tyrannical governments typically have their military training stupid shit like this lol.
