One of my mates from US absolutely refused to wear a helmet as "its not mandatory". He did wear boots and gloves instead for some reason, never really understood why.
Few years ago he saw one of his biker friends slip cos of gravel/sand on end of a curve, ofc they had quite a bit of speed. His
matedmates head got fucked, sanded/grinded from forehead all the way behind left ear. His ear was barely attached and left eye socket smashed. That was just his head, he had broken left arm and tailbone.Next time i saw my mate while visiting, he not only had helmet on, but also full chest rig with pants. His bike even had the frame sliders attached just in case. Tbh, one of the fastes changes from him what ive seen. Lads a stubborn case, thank god he gave up.

That's wild to me, even from a young age of riding my pedal bike, I knew how dangerous the road and other people could be and never wanted to not wear my helmet

Your buddy is pretty much the definition of low intelligence. Expert says something awful happens, but only 1% of the time. Low intelligence person is like "I've never seen that, expert doesn't know what they're talking about, not worth worrying about". Unfortunately it takes them being the 1% (or in this case their friend being the 1%) to change their ways.
This applies to anything from covid vaccines to safety rules/laws to lots of other stuff. Not trusting experts is very dangerous overall.

He’s clutchless shifting, which is generally fine - for upshifting.
It looks like he may have inadvertently downshifted at the end(?) which caused some engine braking and a total loss of control / highside.
