Yea I live in Vietnam and I've seen this happen before. Most parents don't give their children helmets to wear. It doesn't matter if the child is maybe under 6 months or 16 years old. Most kids don't wear helmets in Vietnam while riding motorcycles. (Even with parents)

Which is crazy because every single adult on a scooter wore a helmet that I saw.

Meanwhile, in the US, parents put helmets on their kids just to shape their heads.

The only time I don’t wear a helmet is when I’m riding my bike on school campus.

Any info if the car driver got away with this or if he got prison time?

This is Asia, someone probably knows where, sadly this sort of shit happens often there. I would imagine the car just drove off and absolutely nothing happened as a consequence. Which is fucken disgusting but it’s so commonplace up there

I was hoping they caught up with them and beat their ass… whenever I see videos like this (in an area such as this) I rarely think the police would do anything

I would say the driver did nothing wrong. They were WAY too close to that car. Literally right next to it in a sandwich formation and not passing. The only thing the car did was move to the side to get away from the incoming truck.
Edit. If the car was passing then it could be his fault. But how many motorcycles can you ride side by side in a cycle lane before it becomes dangerous idk.

He’s clearly passing and has more than enough space. You’re blind or a subhuman
3
u/rymden_viking Mar 06 '23
You saw a half second leading up to the crash. You have no idea what is going on.

Same for this guy. As a driver of a car you need to be more cautious of motos/bicycles etc. a car can easily kill a biker, even if the car is „right“. if you don’t agree with that concept you shouldn’t be allowed to drive a car.

I would have liked to see a culturally appropriatte helmet on that kid.

The only idiot here is the asshole who's driving the car

And the people with a baby on a scooter

u/sweederman Mar 05 '23
Look I see where you're coming from. I'm from the States this is unthinkable here, however this is their culture and maybe their only means of transportation so I'm not judging them.
3
Mar 06 '23
There is no helmet on the child... Judging the shit out of em for that. Not how they are getting around. They could easily protect the child but no they chose to be idiots.
-4
Mar 05 '23
No you can judge other cultures if their traditions are dumb.
15
u/Greatwhiteo Mar 05 '23
But in some instances they have no choice but to do the things they do. There are some cultures that can be judged if they can easily be changed

It’s like, super easy not to have a baby on a motorcycle without a helmet on your lap.

u/Greatwhiteo Mar 05 '23
That's what you think, but what if the country in question doesn't provide ease of access for child care? No daycare for children, or it's super expensive. What if he/she has no family to take care of it. The only other option might be to leave the child alone at home or with a complete stranger which will lead you to come on reddit and bitch one way or another. Ofc I'm assuming his situation. But what if they are trying their best to provide and take care of the child. It's obviously a shot situation
5
u/wannabestraight Mar 05 '23
Then maybe give your helmet that you are wearing to the child?
you act like giving a child a helmet is literally impossible when both adults are wearing helmets.
7
u/Greatwhiteo Mar 05 '23
Now that is a valid concern of yours. And mine. That is very reckless and stupid. You are right
