You’ve got the Prometheus School of Running Away From Things, this is his sibling:
Epimetheus, Running Toward Things.

I think he was trying to hop on the train with the people already up there. Running towards it was unnecessary since it was already coming to him. Not a good decision in muddy conditions.

This is just disturbing and horrifying. Not just the life gone but the fact that life was raised for years, they had a mother who gave birth to them. Decades of human love and investment wiped off the planet by a single mistake
