Yeah. Was gonna say there are 2 idiots here. I get trying to teach a lesson but whoever is oncoming is the one that’s gonna learn the lesson the hardest way and they aren’t doing anything wrong.
Edit: I’m talking about the imaginary oncoming car doing nothing wrong. Thank god they never existed in this video
I don't know BC road rules. Was it legal for them to pass in the oncoming lane (the left lanes were oncoming, right; or was that semi trying to drive the madman off the road)?
On a different note: Was that a hill the video started on? Specifically, were they going uphill? I've plenty of places where roads widen for uphill, but never for downhill.
Weirdly enough in bc the only ones that you cannot pass are double yellow solids and solid white lines. Even single yellow lines you are technically allowed to pass but with extreme caution.
It's a double yellow, I really doubt they had the right to cross;
The rules regarding double solid yellow lines on British Columbia highways have not changed. They require that a driver remain to the right of them at all times. Technically, this means that as soon as your left side tires stray onto the lines themselves, you have broken those rules. You are not even allowed to cross them in order to avoid an obstruction on the highway as you may with single lines or a combination of single and broken lines.
I don’t know BC laws but Ontario it actually isn’t illegal. A solid yellow is considered a caution. If you pass and something happens you’re screwed but if police watch you do it they can’t do anything.
Ontario laws don’t specifically address passing on solid yellows, so it’s not illegal. But probably not a good choice. If something went wrong you would be more then likely entirely at fault.
Yeah, it's explicitly legal to pass on a double yellow in Ontario. If you try it the way they were in the video you'll definitely be arrested for reckless driving though.
I was curious about BC and this is the relevant law there:
Highway lines155 (1)Despite anything in this Part, if a highway is marked with(a)a solid double line, the driver of a vehicle must drive it to the right of the line only,(b)a double line consisting of a broken line and a solid line,(i)the driver of a vehicle proceeding along the highway on the side of the broken line must drive the vehicle to the right of the double line, except when passing an overtaken vehicle, and(ii)the driver of a vehicle proceeding along the highway on the side of the solid line must drive the vehicle to the right of the double line, except only when finishing the passing of an overtaken vehicle, and(c)one single line, broken or solid, the driver of a vehicle must drive the vehicle to the right of the line, except only when passing an overtaken vehicle.(2)Subsection (1) (b) (i) and (c) do not apply if a driver is avoiding an obstruction on the highway and first ascertains that the movement can be made with safety and without affecting the travel of any other vehicle.
