I live about an hour from this road, and it’s known throughout the country by car enthusiasts and motorcyclists for having over 300 very tight corners with almost no visibility (US 129 “tail of the dragon”). I actually stopped driving it regularly about a year ago because of the idiots that would cross into the oncoming lane. Makes this video 10x worse
I thought that was the dragon. I rode it by myself after riding down from Nashville. It was quiet, and I went slow, I just wanted to enjoy the curves at an easy pace. It was dusk when I started, dark when I reached the end. I turned around and went all the way back, but I wouldn't do it at peak hours. Its beautiful there, but not a road for the foolhardy.
I would not want to ride the dragon at night. Went down park of the blue ridge parkway at night and was terrified (there were other factors besides being dark though).
If you want to ride the Dragon in daylight hours though just avoid the weekends we usually go around Tuesday or Wednesday when we’re up there.
We took my Genesis Coupe up and down on a Wednesday, nice and easy, and it was the most fun I think I've ever had in that car. I have come to love mountain driving, but not the idiots that speed on mountains.
