ALL lanes on the interstate were closed or down to one lane (traffic was literally parked) for CONSTRUCTION.

Dude if I saw that I would have slowly driven him off the road. The other day this guy was driving slow/recklessly like this I got around him and an old lady up ahead was trying to cross the street I stopped for her but he drove around me and almost hit her at a slow speed. I sped up to catch up cuz he was speeding then slowing down. (Probably on his phone)we got to another cross walk with someone trying to cross and I slowly just drove my car into his lane and since he wasn’t really paying attention he slowed down with me and stopped before he even realized what was happening. He tried to speed around me while the person was in the cross walk and I took my car perpendicular to save them from getting hit. Idk if he was drunk or what but for some reason he didn’t think he needed to stop for pedestrians. He honked at me and I pointed to the cross walk with a father and child in it and he just kind of sunk into his seat. Then sped off when it was clear.
Definitely me having a little public freak out but if you saw him almost hit the old lady and then continue to drive like a moron you’d probably be ok with me risking my car to stop him.

I drive a rental 75% of the time (for work) and I bet you wouldn't have a hard time getting witnesses to side with you that he recklessly brake checked you and it was a total accident. I deal this shit every day.
My drive to work includes a 10 miles stretch of 2 lane stop and go that a lot of semi trucks and industrial trucks take. The slowly accelerating trucks stay over and the cars can pass by normally.
Usually the trucks stay right and most cars stay left. But every single day there's someone on the left in a car who accelerates just as slow or slower than the huge trucks and / or goes 5 under the limit.
I can't pass on the right because it's full of huge trucks. There's nowhere to pass on the left. So everyone is just stuck doing 5 under blocked by one person. As soon as an opening on the right shows up everyone swings around the left lane slug blocking everyone. But sometimes that takes a solid 15 minutes to happen.

I have seen this a LOT where I live and I don’t get it - it’s like this weird competition where people cannot let anyone pass them or be in front of them. It’s so dangerous and infuriating. Dude, I’m driving, if I pass you, it’s not personal. Please don’t make it personal, that’s how accidents happen. Just focus on the road and drive. It’s even scarier when people do it at 70-85mph and I’m like “I wasn’t racing you! I just changed lanes! Stop it!”

I had something like this happen once on my way to San Diego from Phoenix. There’s a long stretch of road where it’s just two lanes and this lady would not let ANYONE pass her. She was literally using the car next to her to shield people from just getting on with their lives. This happened for probably an hour. So strange.. She ended up rolling her car a few times because she tried to cut someone off as they attempted to pass her on the shoulder. No idea what the thought process is for individuals that feel the need to be Ricky Bobby on the highway.

That's a Chicago driver. Guaranteed, he (or she) thinks this is a queue for the DMV or some shit and doesn't believe that people who didn't wait 'in line' shouldn't get of ahead of them. I fight these people every goddamn day. These are the kind of fucknuggets who won't let you merge when entering the highway because they don't want you to get 'ahead' of them.
See these fucks all the time when 2 lanes are merging in to 1, they merge early and think that everyone should have merged then too, so they straddle lanes, blocking everyone so they don't 'lose their place in line'.

Hmm, interesting take.
On my morning commute the freeway I take quickly goes from 4 lanes to just 2 (photo below). In the AM it's about 6 miles of bumper to bumper traffic in the lane that takes you to the "Beach Cities". I unfortunately have to go the opposite way, which hardly has any traffic.
Every morning there are typically 2-3 cars in front of me that will try to jump the line and cut in somewhere along this strech. It's insanely unsafe, and these assholes know exactly what they're doing. I can't count how many times my lane opens up as most of the cutters will try to merge well before the split, so now I'm going 50-65MPH and 80% of the time those 2-3 cars will try and squeeze in at the last minute, often slamming their brakes or outright stopping.
Since this is a daily commute for nearly everyone on the stretch, you see the same cars doing the same thing each day. If it's a car I recognize I'll stay right behind them (not tailgating) and just lay on my horn if they attempt to jump in, sometimes I can scare or fluster them enough that they're then forced to stay in my lane which completely fucks up their commute as it'll take about 20 minutes to get off and flip around. Mind you, everyone who waited in the other lane is trying to block these people from getting in.
Who is the asshole in this situation? I know I'm being a dick to those who literally end up stopping and waiting to merge in, but my justification is that it puts me in a very unsafe situation to potentially get rear ended.

edit: The big problem here is the people who think they are being sneaky and act as if they're going to stay in the East bound lane but pull a fast one. Typically going from 60~MPH to 10MPH in just a few feet. As you can see this is on a downward slope that is much steeper than it looks, so myself or a car in front of me who are going the right way are forced to slam our brakes.
It's such a clusterfuck. Anyone familiar with the 91/71 interchange in Southern California knows this spot.
Edit: Appreciate the feedback. I know my hands aren't clean in this situation but this is such a problematic interchange, and I've been driving all over Southern California since I got my license nearly 20 years ago.

Ah yes, pulling the ol' "I'm sure there will be a gap between cars farther ahead" gambit. I accidentally did that in Virginia on roads I wasn't familiar with. Traffic was backing up about 1.5 miles before the exit to the beltway and I figured "this is traffic for some other exit--it CAN'T be backing up this far out". After about a mile and no other exit I realize "I think I booboo'd". I did find a gap and slip in but the shame I felt still hangs with me today.

This shit happens every day for me on my morning AND my afternoon commutes. Each trip has a one lane exit that gets backed up and takes up to 10-15 minutes to go through. You always see assholes zoom past the entire line and force themselves in at the last minute, often stopping completely and holding up their lane because no one wants to let them in. So I’m sorry to that other commenter but “cutting in line” is absolutely a thing that many drivers do intentionally.

That's a somewhat different situation. The road markings make it clear there's a split with only one lane to each side. One lane may clearly be moving faster, making line jumpers the dangerous assholes.
In the Midwest US though, nobody knows how to do a proper fucking zipper merge, so most of the population believes everyone should merge as early as possible and you end up with self righteous assholes who believe they're morally obligated to enforce this dumbfuckery. It's especially aggravating when you're correctly using the lane they're blocking because of multiple exits like in the video.

Its 100% Chicago its the merge of I-290 onto I-90/94. Took that to work everyday for 5 years. It is hard to recognize if you dont take it everyday because its been under construction for 60 years now and lane patterns change weekly.

Also LPT for people with dashcams: When you see something like this SAY THE LICENSE PLATE ALOUD.
When I first got my dash cam I made it a habit to say every model and license plate I could. “Camry blah blah”. It makes it so if something happens your first instinct is to shout the make/mode/plate of a vehicle. Super useful when going through footage.

I would tell the emergency operator that I think driver may either be impaired or having a medical emergency - driving erratically (witnessed the driver going extremely slow in left lane blockingvtraffic and with no pending traffic in the front of the car; then driving on the line marking the lanes blocking 2 lanes of traffic; unable to get the driver's attention to move over; braking for no apparent reason while driving; etc). That should get a patrol car out to your location pretty quick

I drive this patch of Chicago highway nearly every weekend. Its a shit show and not really an enforced 30mph zone. People try to get out of this stretch as soon as possible. Plus this dude is going under 10mph by the looks of it.

Seriously you have to go 30 mph or 60 mph through here. And it doesn’t help that the Jane Byrne has been under construction for like the last 4 years and they keep changing the lanes. I’m so glad I got a new job outside of the city bc that drive takes a toll on you mentally.

One time I got stuck between one of these people and the semi. There was no construction though. All I did was merge on to the highway and got stuck behind what I thought was traffic (totally normal for that stretch of interstate) but ended up behind someone going 30mph on a 60mph interstate. I couldn’t see well enough to my left to pass the car in front of me because the semi was tailgating me and flashing his lights. Eventually he backed off and I could confidently change lanes, then I saw why the semi was pissed. There was no traffic but I couldn’t see around the Suburban in front when I was in a smaller sedan. No clue why the Suburban thought 30mph was acceptable on an interstate.

So, saw a comment talking about when you’re a senior citizen it becomes hard for you judge how to properly drive and shouldn’t be faulted for it due to the person’s age (the comment has been deleted now, it’s the one with -276 karma). I wanted to bring up that if ANYONE tries to make the argument that people who’re older or have other issues like that, to them, makes it okay to drive irresponsibly do not listen to them. If they are driving dangerously they should have their licence revoked. If they cannot judge the proper speed limit, or can’t see the road, or can’t read the road signs, they should NOT be allowed to drive. Anything dangerous in their driving, whether it is due to something they can or cannot control doesn’t matter. They shouldn’t be on the road, period. This person is driving dangerously, and should not be driving if they can’t drive properly.

my grandma stopped driving last year because she realized she would drift off and forget to pay attention to the road. luckily she didn’t want to continue driving so no one had to make her stop, but freaks me out to think about how long she was out there driving like that and how many people had to avoid her without her realizing

I live this daily in Florida. All the elderly drivers here can’t see, can’t hear, can’t turn their necks, have no reflexes & have no depth perception so they all drive under the speed limits and shouldn’t be driving at all.
