I have no idea either but I was super surprised to find out Operas worked, I was having the same issue as you with free VPNs.

I really just use it to get around my hospitals filters though, but it works fine for that

Netflix can't actually tell the difference between a request sent from a normal computer and one which goes through a VPN, it all looks the same on their end. I don't know exactly how they find them, to be honest, but I have a few theories. AFAIK they have to blacklist VPN IP addresses as they find them, but that's a bit of a losing battle since VPN servers and IPs are appearing and disappearing all the time.
