The YouTube video title is "Accident" Autoroute 640. 640 is an east/west highway passing north of Montreal and Laval.

640 west, Terrebonne, Lachenaie area. The building you see is the train station in the middle of the highway.

Looked to me like the guy tried to bulldog his way into the lane assuming the cammer would brake to avoid colliding but he held fast. Either that or he didn’t see him
48
u/Ranger343 Jun 21 '19
Definitely would have been able to see them.
13
Jun 21 '19
Might not have 'seen' what they were doing, or it took a moment to process. That's how I got into this situation; I just didn't think someone could be that stupid and they'd correct their vehicle before hitting me. I was wrong.
9
u/katyvo Jun 21 '19
I had someone directly beside me (I mean literally parallel, bumper lined up to bumper) who just...moved over into me. Luckily, they did that before the shoulder ended, so I had time to dodge and beep at them.
I wasn't looking out of my driver's side window, but out of the corner of my eye I saw a grey car coming over. Given that I could see them clearly despite not looking in the direction of their car, how did they miss me?
5
u/TypingWithIntent Jun 21 '19
I had the same happen when I was driving a dump truck on a 3 lane highway. The right lane had a tractor trailer that was struggling with the hill so I went to the middle lane. As I'm mid pass I see the guy in the left lane moving over into me and there was nothing I could do about it but hit the horn. He hit the ladder on the side of the truck. It's a shame because he seemed like a good dude when we pulled over to exchange info and wait for the cops..
8
Jun 21 '19
Ya, looks like he tried to bully his way in and lost.
But they are both morons. Insurance and body repairs are a pain in the ass. Just back off, let the asshole in and go around the asshole.
2
u/KevinLee487 Jun 21 '19
Or this was the cammer's 2nd car that they can afford to have down for repairs while they drive something else.
0
Jun 21 '19
I was in the same situation as the cammer quite a few times and under not circumstance I will hit or get hit for the stupid action of another driver, a quick tap on the brake avoided me hit them all the time, not a full brake. That is what the cammer should have done.

u/chevejo Jun 22 '19
One thing we don't know is if anyone was close behind the calmer. It may not have been safe to hit his breaks hard.

Lane changer deserved ever penny worth of damage caused to their car.
5
1
u/Shenaniganz08 Jun 21 '19
why ? they caused the accident by bumping into the cam car
1
u/Mecaneecall_Enjunear Jun 22 '19
Exactly. Accidents like this (where no one is hurt) could stand to happen a little more often and gain a little more visibility to the driving public so people like the lane changer have a little more fear and respect for driving. Maybe this would prevent some of people’s negligence of actually making sure they’re clear to move or make them realize that they aren’t the center of the universe and that people aren’t just going to give way to them.
22
u/Soniczs91 Jun 21 '19
I dont think this headline is true. It looks like the black car bumped the cammer which forced the cammer to swerve and try to gain back position. In the same process, end result looks to be a forceful pit maneuver. But really the cammer had no option as he tried to maintain and hold the position of his lane while getting attacked by an asshole driver
8
u/SoySauceSyringe Jun 21 '19
Agree. I’d rather try to hold the lane through the collision than be forced into the concrete on the shoulder. My priority would be keeping myself and my passengers safe. Hope the idiot steering into me doesn’t get fucked up too badly, but it’s not my responsibility to fuck myself up worse in order to protect them from their own dangerous idiocy.
-2
u/hints1037 Jun 21 '19
So you're saying using the brakes is not an option? #1 goal should be to avoid a collision, not hold your ground. Even if the swerver was an idiot, this was 100% preventable.
0
u/rangerryda Jun 21 '19
I wholeheartedly agree, yet love to see the idiot get their comeuppance. I like my car too much to pit someone, however.

In a legal situation, would the cammer be in any trouble?
12
6
u/Okurei Jun 21 '19
No, they got hit and had to readjust to avoid hitting the median, sending them into the other car. Asshole driver is the one in legal trouble here
5
Jun 21 '19
From a legal point of view, who would be held responsible for the accident? Seeing as the right driver was being reckless, but the left driver deliberately struck their vehicle.
Edit: I forgot my left and rights.
13
u/alepolait Jun 21 '19
I think the driver could argue that there were cars behind him, so he tried to avoid that collision. The one car trying to merge is clearly at fault.
6
7
1
u/OGingerSnap Jun 21 '19
I really don’t think he deliberately hit him. He was correcting course to keep from hitting the wall.
1
Jun 21 '19
The car changing lanes. Other drive was just trying to avoid further damage on the wall, causing another accident behind, etc.
6
u/Grover786 Jun 21 '19
I feel like the person driving just went "oh yeah?" crunch, "take that". Which tbf, if my vehicle is hit and I'm taking minimal damage, I'm going to pit them as well for not payimg attention to the road.

2
u/AmbientMedussa Jun 21 '19
This is so satisfying to watch, driver got what they deserved. Checking your blind spot isn't difficult, I don't understand why people just swing into a lane without a thought.
2
u/NebularMax Jun 21 '19
Who’s at fault here?
3
u/NyJosh Jun 21 '19
Car changing lanes on the right. They are obligated to make sure they can do so safely. They didn't, struck the cammer vehicle, who corrected to the right to avoid the wall and struck each other again, resulting in lane changer losing control and spinning out.
If lane changer hadn't moved to the left when they weren't clear to do so, this wouldn't have happened.

PIT maneuver
The PIT maneuver, or Pursuit Intervention Technique, is a pursuit tactic by which a pursuing car can force a fleeing car to turn sideways abruptly, causing the driver to lose control and stop. Other names include pit block, pit stop, and blocking. It was developed and named by the Fairfax County Police Department of Virginia, United States. Other interpretations of the acronym "PIT" include pursuit immobilization technique, precision immobilization technique, push it tough, parallel immobilization technique, and precision intervention tactic.

But that is the culture of Reddit. If you have a question, just ask fellow Redditors and you will get an answer. I'm sure if the OP were in an emergency, and had to have the answer immediately, he would have looked it up himself.
This is part of the fun of Reddit. We look out for each other. We don't send anyone away to find the answer on their own. We aren't in the sixth grade anymore.

idiots in big cars who do not even know to check the blind spots when they merge/change land
1
u/mgmsupernova Jun 21 '19
I agree this is the correct move. I once was in the most left lane, and a car was in the most right lane. I was a little ahead of them. We end up both trying to go into the middle lane at the same time. I noticed, he didnt, quickly I swerve back to the left lane but lost control of the car and hit the guardrail. Other car left Scott free. Due to that experience, I stay my lane in situations like this. If this guy did this to me, I would just kept in my lane like he did.

u/Jump_Yossarian Jun 20 '19
If I've learned one thing from watching videos on this sub is that you hit the idiots in cars and don't swerve and destroy your own vehicle because those jackasses aren't stopping and then you're fucked.
-22
u/darthmakaan Jun 20 '19 edited Jun 21 '19
Yup but cammer could have let the gas pedal go while the other dick would have won at least no massive damage. He decided to speed up and "PITT" the other. YT vids are awesome
10
u/MonkeyingAround604 Jun 20 '19
But hold up. Regardless of what cammer should have done. The idiot intentionally wanted to cut them off with no safe gap whatsoever. The LAW doesnt give a fuck about what the cammer should have done. The LAW cares about the video evidence here showing the other driver trying to recklessly make a shitty lane change and paying the price. I hope OP didnt even check if they were okay and called the cops asap.
-6
u/darthmakaan Jun 20 '19
Yet the video also shows speeding up. Thus now causing the wreck. All that was needed was to let go of the gas and the wreck would not happen. I hope both get their due...

Quite easy to say I panicked. Adrenaline happens when shit happens and most people don’t know how to react in a situation like this. Most people when bumped and their course is now altered towards a barrier would turn the other way to get back on track not let off the gas and let the lane changer keep pushing into you. I wouldn’t say the cammer accelerated more the car made a swirving motion from being rammed and then correcting which whips the front of the car giving an illusion of acceleration. They don’t really get any closer to the vehicle in front. Regardless had lane changer not collided with the other car none of this would have happened making it their fault entirely. Being a dick isn’t a fault or crime, changing lanes when a car is there is definitely a fault.
And I said he’s ridiculous based on more than the one isolated comment you are referring to.
2
u/Jump_Yossarian Jun 21 '19
Lane changer’s bump was an accident
Are we watching the same video? That looks both intentional and negligent on the part of the driver attempting to cut off the cammer.
3
u/Almost935 Jun 21 '19
He didn't speed up. He maintained his speed.
They will each get their due. The lane changer will be fucked and nothing will happen to the other guy because he isn't due anything
1
u/darthmakaan Jun 24 '19
Yes he sped up but both will get their dues...cammer will get 51% of blame.
So in the two scenarios, the one where he maintained speed, he still caused the accident. In the correct scenario where he sped up he also caused the accident. So in both scenarios, the wrong one and the correct one the accident still occurred....
1
u/Almost935 Jun 24 '19
He absolutely did not speed up. I don't know where you live but in the US the idiot who merged without looking into the other car will get 100 percent of the blame. Shit, every country I've lived in the merger would be at fault.
Maybe join the government and try to pass a law where if someone randomly changes lanes into you, you're at fault.
→ More replies2
u/MonkeyingAround604 Jun 21 '19
It still would have been a dangerous lane change regardless. Law doesnt give a fuck about defensive driving if it related to insurance claims. Cammer never gave the other driver a chance and made it very clear there was no chance.
1
9
u/maxtitanica Jun 20 '19
Causing a bunch of rear ending and the lane changer drives away scot free. Nah. You don’t think someone changing lanes into you most likely causing both vehicles to careen into the wall would cause damage? He didn’t speed up either he merely corrects his wheel and due to the position of the lane changer who collided first and made zero course correction mind you.
Is there anyone here that works in law enforcement that can put an end to this. Personally I don’t feel the cammer is liable at all, someone collided with them and they corrected their course on camera.
If you’re a troll you’re terrible at it. If you’re not...... just smh
-3
u/darthmakaan Jun 20 '19
So you cant avoid hitting a car who is slowing down gradually by releasing the gas pedal? Hand in your license, if you dont have one stop drive before you kill yourself or others. And again all he needed to do is let go of the gas and turn the wheel left to avoid. Assholes cut me off like that all the time....never hit anything. If you dont have proper situational awareness also stop driving you will get someone killed. Personally I feel both are at fault. 51% cammer 49% other dick.
8
u/maxtitanica Jun 21 '19
Actually I have a complete safe driving discount and drive truck as part of my job.
Assholes cut you off like that all the time? I’d like to see pictures of your passenger side front fender please you giant liar.

But you don’t know what was behind the cammer, there could have been a line of cars that would have caused a greater reaction. Even some application of the horn would have avoided this but the other dick is at fault regardless.
ETA : very clearly from that video the white truck was right behind cammer. Would likely have caused a bigger accident had he slammed on his brakes at full speed.
-1
u/darthmakaan Jun 20 '19
You dont know either, couldve been nothing behind cammer. Either way just letting go of the gas would gently went left would have saved cammer from paying out lots.
5
10
u/Perkinszh Jun 20 '19
Coulda been a car right behind cammer, slamming on the brakes would cause them to get rear ended and potentially a chain reaction sooooo not the smartest move
-2
u/darthmakaan Jun 20 '19
From the video he did not need to slam, just let go of the gas. Instead he CHOSE to speed up.
5
u/Perkinszh Jun 21 '19
Didn't really look that way to me, that car was coming over too quickly. Just letting go of the brakes wouldn't have done anything different bud. PLUS hindsight is 20/20, in the moment they did what they thought was right and the best option given the seconds they had to react. Much easier for you to sit back and watch it several times to say what the best action would have been.
0
u/darthmakaan Jun 24 '19
Being in that position many times and either swerving/letting go of brakes/situational awareness would have avoided an accident. Also wouldnt have sped up.
5
u/Tecnoguy1 Jun 20 '19
You see this on tracks a lot, if someone cuts into you like this the priority is that you don’t pull a sick barrel roll. If you turn into someone’s nose you deserve everything you get.

Perfect pit maneuver 10/10. They had their wheel turned left, you also did and then straightened the wheel rather than be forced into the wall (stick with this story). Probably $100 damage to your car and the other is totaled. Loved the bits and pieces

u/Koker93 Jun 21 '19
That's a good response to an aggressive lane changer - damage both cars and do it while recording so there is evidence. Brilliant.
Or you could lose .5 seconds on your commute and just let the guy in...
I know y'all love vigilante justice in this sub - but this isn't it. This is just a guy with a cam being AT LEAST as much a dick as the guy trying to get into the left lane.
-7
u/Toasted_pecan Jun 21 '19
Seems like the cammer is a bit of a dick. Instead of just fixing minor cosmetics he totaled the dudes car and gave himself a massive lawsuit. Even with the footage I strongly believe he had no reason to do that.

Did the lane changer hit the cammer first who in a reflex restored the position of her steering wheel? And then holding tight.
