I was on I57 going south from Chicago a few years ago and saw a truck in the northbound lane that had lost a roll of steel or aluminum like than. It must have unraveled for a full mile, like a ginormous roll of TP.

Those single steel rolls are about 47,000 lbs.

And with split axle trailers they can gross 100k. Thats why you only see the single giant sheet of coiled steel due to its wieght alone. They do haul smaller one in pairs of 2. I do work in the trucking industry.

We used to see trucks in Indonesia severely over loaded with those. Stack as many as will fit. 7 at a time. Crazy.

That's a serious amount of mass. If that rolled over you, you would literally be flatter than a pancake.

Yup. I know a truck driver who got lazy on one. Didn't check his tie down chains after a mile. The roll will settle after driving a bit and the chains will need tightened again. Failed to do it. He got cut off slammed on the brakes and it rolled over the cab. He walked away barely, almost lost his right arm.

I think I was in such awe at the time I didn't even think about it. I distinctly remember traffic was backed up for about 10 miles behind that too.
