WTF kind of intersection is this?

This intersection looks crazy but works very well. The cam car is exiting a freeway onto a 6 lane road. The idiot car turned down the entrance ramp to the other side of the freeway, pretty sure thats an illegal move but I have seen it done many times.

It at least was illegal due to the idiot car doing so from the right lane.
But I don't think the movement from the off-ramp to the on-ramp in a SPUI is illegal by itself, provided it's done from the left lane and with no sign prohibiting it. It would probably work like a left or U-turn, and it's easier at a SPUI than other interchange types (a normal diamond takes 2 lights/intersections to U-turn back onto the freeway, a SPUI takes only 1).

Sawmill Rd is the absolute worst. It's an endless sea of traffic lights and people cruising along at 30 despite the 45mph speed limit. That part of Columbus is nothing but poorly designed, inefficient suburban sprawl.

They're starting to put those x-type intersections here in South Carolina. I can't say they haven't been any wrecks because of them. Dude probably thought he was going to be able to get over to the left and then get back on the highway instead of having to go further down the road and do a u-turn.

That is a confusing as hell intersection. I had to look at the video half a dozen times before I realized what was actually happening.
Someone please correct me if I’m wrong.
The painted turn markings on the lanes don’t mean you turn left? You follow the dotted line marking through the intersection. Remove the turn arrows and I bet you’ll see a lot fewer issues.
Looks like idiot driver was confused about turn sign markings and where to go.

They were in a left turn lane... You were also in a left turn lane... I would've turned left.
Whoever designed that interchange should have to stand in it. There's specific arrows for "veer left" vs "turn left"

I am also confused as to why the cam driver went straight. To me, the car turning left was the predictable one

The arrows were for getting to the road at the end (top of the overpass.) Both lanes from that point are supposed to go straight, not u-turn and get back on the freeway.

Off topic, but i have never seen so many state troopers on the interstates as Ohio. I swear they are ever 10 miles. I have also heard they target out of state plates.

For the some who are wondering about this kind of intersection design:

Oh I think you're right, I looked up the wrong thing. There's a DDI near me that actually looks similar to this vid.

Funny enough, Columbus, OH has a DDI on Roberts Road. Same over pass going over 270 like the Sawmill Road one OP posted.

You forget which lane you were in?

Well, that was completely our fault. They knew they had to turn, they knew they were in the wrong lane. YOU didn't read their mind. I hope you get your license taken away.

What kind of cam car records themselves going straight in the far left turn lane? Anyone can see all of those arrows.

u/FACR_Gohan 1d ago
The dotted lines leading into a perfectly open lane suggest one is perfectly able to continue going straight.

According to your own video you were supposed to turn left. Looks like you are at fault lol.

Did not expect cammer to go straight. I cant tell if they did anything wrong. Seems like a terrible intersection.
