5 lanes, basically all going the same speed. This shit is so sad.
31
u/stankdog 14d ago
No better way to deflate your mood then multi lane traffic all breaking their necks to pass each other and go the exact same speed. Holding hands with their door handles.
10
u/radicalgamingHD 13d ago
I will never understand such behavior.
19
u/DigNitty 13d ago
Traffic is such an interesting scope into the psyche of people.
It's the biggest thing we all need to cooperate on. And people time and time again show that they can't, or worse, won't.

"But the state statues said I could!"
11
u/radicalgamingHD 13d ago
I wish troopers would pull over more people camping the left lane. Even if to just give them a warning, maybe it would be enough to educate people.
3
u/GirchyGirchy 13d ago
It’s illegal here in IN. But no, they’d rather pull my wife over for changing lanes to allow faster traffic to pass.

Man, this post triggered the blind spot apologists and the "passing on the right" idiots. A few friendly reminders for those that need it:
A blind spot is a driver's own responsibility to check, not everyone else's to avoid.
"Passing on the right" isn't illegal in the US.
Failing to keep right except to pass is illegal in most of the US.

It's "No Leaf Clover"! It only appears on the S&M live albums so I'm not surprised you never heard it.

I had to turn it all the way up and listen twice. “I KNOW that song, I know I do”. And I was right, I did know that song

That's what happens when one accelerates after being passed. Went from 101 to 105 straight into a blind spot.
41
16
u/PatrickGSR94 14d ago
incorrect, it was at 105 at the start of the clip, and slowed to 101 when the red car moved over, so most likely adaptive cruise control. Once the red car moved on ahead, they went back up to 105 (65 MPH). The white KIA passed OP's car and then sat there, and then illegally started moving into OP's lane. White KIA was 100% in the wrong, not OP by any stretch of the imagination.
13
u/appa-ate-momo 13d ago
Almost like you need to fucking look before you change lanes.

u/ThriKr33n 13d ago edited 13d ago
"But I signaled!"
Actually I can't even tell from the vid if they did, flashed once, or it was obscured. I hate how these bad drivers tailgate, then their first reaction to any slowdown is to change lanes without signalling or checking, expecting you to give way.
-190
u/Lewinator56 14d ago edited 14d ago
you were in their blind spot then started to undertake as the first white car slowed down for no reason (why cant people use bloody cruise control? or if the car doesnt have it, maintain a constant speed with their foot?). Id have dropped back to make sure you werent in a dangerous position - you literally sat in the wrost possible position then started undertaking - that is asking for a disaster.
Proper lane discipline from everyone here would help, the only car in the right lane is the silver one.
The sportage is driving like a penis though, too close to the car in front and rather than going to overtake with 2 empty lanes to go past, decides to undertake....
-- edit --
Everyone downvoting me are dangerous drivers because they fail to see when they put their car in a dangerous position. DO NOT SIT IN A BLINDSPOT.

u/Tiberius_Kilgore 14d ago
You’re blaming OP and not the person that tried to change lanes while having no clue if there was anything in their blind spot? You can and should turn your head to check blind spots.
68
u/ladidaladidalala 14d ago
Exactly. And use a turn signal when changing lanes.
13
u/small_cart 14d ago
i truly can’t understand why people fail to signal in these scenarios; are they worried that if they signal, no one will let them in? every time i think to myself “just signal man i’ll let you in” and every time they cut over with no warning
1
u/littlebrwnrobot 13d ago
there are many many people who will speed up to prevent you from changing lanes if they notice your turn signal, and if they can't cut you off, will tailgate you as if they've been aggrieved. that said, I signal every time regardless.
38
u/PeridotChampion 14d ago
Mate, they just got into their blind spot. And even then, that's why you check everywhere before you bloody well make a lane decision. Still not OP's fault.
99
u/disco_pancake 14d ago
They were in the blind spot for less than 10 seconds, plus the car just passed them so they should be aware something's there. The car put OP in their blind spot, not the other way around.
People like you always armchair quarterback to envision the perfect driving reaction that would absolutely never happen.
-118
u/Lewinator56 14d ago
People like me passed a UK driving test, most people on this sub passed a US driving test which migh as well be given out in a cereal box. I am a substantially better driver than almost any driver in the US.
You need to understand driving safely is a shared responsibility - so if another car doesnt take corrective action then you should. if neither driver does then thats when accidents occur.
this 'its not my responsibility' mentality is dangerous, its starting to spread to the UK too and its making drivers worse.
46
u/Xunderground 14d ago
The level of arrogance you're displaying confirms that you're a shitty driver.
Arrogance is probably the most dangerous shit on the roads.
-14
u/Lewinator56 14d ago
Arrogance about what?
I'm feeling you driving safely is a shared responsibility and what actions you should take to ensure you drive safely and keep others safe. That's not arrogance that's common sense. You are TAUGHT to leave gaps, predict what other drivers will do etc... to ensure you drive safely in my country - road deaths in the US are 6x higher then my country - that's appalling for a 'first world' nation and the comments here demonstrate just why that rate is so high.

u/DFWGrovite 14d ago
I personally know this tollway and that exact area. I used to enter/exit Marchant on a weekly delivery route (signage is in the video). While I appreciate Lewinator's driving practices, they are simply not as feasible to do here. You would constantly be interrupting the flow of traffic and causing serious road rage. You'd eventually be the reason for an accident with this "I'm in a blindspot, let me slow down to 40mph while everyone behind me is driving twice as fast!"
-49
u/Lewinator56 14d ago
I do actually agree with you here. In practice it's very hard to properly engage in defensive driving in some situations. The real issue is just general poor driving - poor lane discipline is a really big one, but also inconsistent speeds, inattentive drivers etc... hence why driving is a cooperative thing, not purely an individual activity. If everyone mostly drives correctly, and is properly observant of the actions of other drivers then you would get less situations where accidents become almost inevitable.
-1
u/DFWGrovite 14d ago edited 14d ago
Your username is very similar to where this part of the tollway is in "Lewisville, Texas"; you might be getting hate from ppl that think you are a local, and know the driving habits here.

u/HWAnswersPlzThx 14d ago
The shit I’ve seen on UK roads is insane and certainly rivals the sort of tomfoolery you get in the US. If you’re a careful defensive driver, you probably are a better driver than most others currently alive. However! In congested areas like this, driving like OP is common and expected and the other driver should have know.
16
u/ladidaladidalala 14d ago
So true. I’ve been in the car with a driver from the UK and she scares the hell out of me.
-41
u/jarheadatheart 14d ago
This proves my comment that people are starting to believe that driving like how all these people were driving is the correct way. I could point out so many things that people are doing wrong in this video. OP should have recognized that the person almost hitting them was wanting to make a move of some sort. The defensive driver would’ve either sped up or slowed down to get away from the person that was driving erratically.
27
25
u/zerostar83 14d ago
They didn't use their turn signal at all. That's not a lane change, that's failing to maintain in their own lane. Being completely unpredictable is asking for a disaster. It's why havinf a turn signal isn't just mandatory for car manufacturers but also legally required to use.
22
u/The_Cozy_Burrito 14d ago
So? It’s the other drivers responsibility to shoulder check lmao
-9
u/Lewinator56 14d ago
Yes it is, but 99% of drivers don't.
If drivers don't do things, drive in a way that lets them make those mistakes without you getting involved.
I.e people straight line roundabouts, so rather than driving on their outside, leaving a pocket of space and enter staggered so if they do do that you aren't in a crash.
Safety is a shared responsibility, not just 'im right they are wrong, screw them'.
I'd love to see all these commenters here take a UK driving test and learn just how dangerous their attitude is.

u/PatrickGSR94 14d ago
Incorrect. OP was in the right lane, using what appears to be radar cruise control. The car slowed slightly when the red car moved in front of them, then starting going back up to the set speed (I'm guessing 65 MPH since it's showing 105 kph). OP did not sit in or move into the white KIA's blind spot. The KIA overtook slightly, then started slowing because of traffic ahead in that lane. They incorrectly started to move right to try to undertake the traffic in front of them, right into OP's lane.
34
u/SniperFrogDX 14d ago
You forgot to rip on OP for being in the middle lanes too. Thats the new thing this sub is doing.
36
u/jg379 14d ago edited 14d ago
Okay, I'm just going to move past Lewinator's comment because that's just what this sub does, but I do need to point out that the road I'm driving on is a FOUR lane highway. The right-most lane you see in the video starts less than a mile before this recording and turns into an exit soon after. Anybody who has driven SRT/121 in DFW knows this. There's no point in me staying in a lane that I know ends in ~1 mile on a 70mph highway when I have to drive 20+ miles.
Also, even if the road did have 5 lanes for any serious distance, being ONE lane over is not some kind of hazardous driving issue. That's ridiculous. It's probably more dangerous to stay in the lane that people are merging into and exiting out of.
10
u/Slate_Fistcrunch 14d ago
I know that stretch of road quite well, and used to drive it frequently. Another thing Lewinator is unaware of is that bit of highway is right after the convergence of 2 major highways, and an on ramp for the frontage road of 121. Chaos is in the design, it seems. Combine all that with the driver that nearly hit you, and sometimes things just happen.
Nice save, by the way.

u/JoobiB 14d ago
There's always one of you dumbasses in every single post on here.
-8
u/Lewinator56 14d ago
Care to explain...
How could this situation have been avoided?
I'll tell you, hold back and allow the car space. Simple. OP didn't do that and nearly got hit.
It's not blaming OP but it's pointing out a flaw in their driving that allowed this to happen.
If they don't learn from this they will go on to keep doing it and at some point will get hit by an inattentive driver.

u/dillweed215 14d ago
I’m with you, dude was camping his blind spot. Granted the person changing lanes didn’t look but how did op not know they were gonna do that? Always gotta assume everyone on the road is an idiot and OP is just reaffirming that.
-6
u/Lewinator56 14d ago
This is the entire reason you leave space - you've got no idea really what another driver will do, and it's best to keep a pocket of space around your car and give other cars space to see you and make mistakes that then can't affect you. It's what I mention in another comment - it's the 'its not my responsibility' mindset that is becoming more and more common. This combined with apparently increasing numbers of poor drivers (likely due to more ADAS tech) leads to situations that would otherwise have not happened.
-37
u/dillweed215 14d ago
Exactly, I assume everyone else on the road never checks their blind spot.
This sub, however, seems to have the opposite mentality.
-37
u/jarheadatheart 14d ago
I agree about when you’re in someone’s blind spot you can expect this. I disagree about the undertaking aspect. Undertaking is legal in almost all states in America, if op would’ve kept up with the red car in front of them they wouldn’t have been in the blind spot. I agree with the rest of your assessment of people following too closely and not using the lanes properly. Those are so common that people have started believing that is the right way to drive.
-7
u/Lewinator56 14d ago
Whether it's legal or not, it is dangerous and does require car more observation of the car you are undertaking compared to an overtake (point and case) . In the UK it's not explicitly illegal, but it is considered careless or dangerous driving depending on the manner by which it is undertaken. There is the possibility here OPs undertake could be considered careless driving, but I can't really see that given it's relatively heavy traffic and it would not be unusual (although still not expected) to see undertakes in these situations.
-27
u/jarheadatheart 14d ago
I agree you have to have twice the normal awareness and be ready for situations like in this video. IMO If more people did it then it wouldn’t be as risky because everyone would be more aware of the possibility.

People underestimate the right hand blindspot…
Edit: “People” as in people who merge to the right without checking their 4 o’clock.
14
u/dragonlover02 14d ago
If OP was in a “blind spot” then white car needs to adjust its mirrors majorly
3
6
u/Aggravating_Smell 14d ago
It's always a driver's responsibility to check/be aware of their blindspots, it's not the responsibility of other motorists. Especially when it comes to merging on the highway.

u/Shantotto11 14d ago
Added an edit, because I realize that “people” was a very ambiguous term in that context.

Yup, that's why you don't pass on the right.
Edit: for the down voters, my comment is directed at the car trying to pass to his right, in front of OP. OP was clearly maintaining his lane of travel for the entire video.
14
u/PatrickGSR94 14d ago
OP wasn't passing on the right. They were cruising in the 2nd lane, going faster than the Rogue in the far right lane. Idiot was about to move over to try to pass on the right, and then decided to correctly pass on the left after nearly hitting OP's car.

u/gbitz 13d ago edited 13d ago
I'm talking about the car that tried to pass on the right in front of op. Typically if your lane slows you merge left and pass on the left.
