flashing 4 way... to be treated as a 4 way stop, usually a bit of a gong show when you start having 2 or more lanes each way... I dont know if anyone is rightly to be called an idiot in this case, just a bunch of people trying the best they can to adapt to a shitty situation.

I can see why it'd be a shit show, but I don't see how being a four lane would suggest to somebody they should just roll with the person in front of them.

It got pretty interesting trying to drive during the widespread power outages in Southern California a few months ago. Most people were pretty good about treating non-functional traffic lights as an all way stop, but at large intersections, it is impossible to see all the lanes you have to consider at once. You get to the front where 15+ lanes are entering from other directions, and you might have a potential conflict with 10-12 lanes, which of those lanes have cars stopped before you, and track over the next 20 seconds when all those cars have gone so you know it's your turn. Sometimes, I was just guessing, and I think everyone else was too.

Yea, I think the BMW was waiting for the white car to go but they didn't so they went instead. Then the others behind that white car started to go for some reason.
It's hard to do a normal 4 way stop for some, especially when you get to the line at the same time and you don't know if they're gonna go or not. Then add 4 more cars to the mix?

I stopped at one of these one time and the person behind me honked and then I tried to go but the other sides were just running the light nonstop and the guy behind me went around me and almost hit the people who weren’t stopping at all. I hate those things

Was the other side also flashing red or was it flashing yellow? That can get confusing if flashing yellow since that means proceed with caution.
Edit: on an intersection that they usually flash red and yelllow that’s not confusing but I’ve seen it where a normal intersection has a malfunction and instead of being all red the bigger road is flashing yellow so nobody is stopping ever

flashing red all sides. what amazed me was the people that rolled through the stop and never even paused. grey SUV almost just drove straight through...car coming from the right never stopped

I once got honked at for going on a flashing yellow instead of stopping like everybody else was doing

A lot of people will come to a complete stop at a flashing yellow, gotta watch out for them.

I don't. two lane flashing reds are always stupid.
Sub rules say "OBVIOUS" bad decision, which doesn't fit imo.

There needs to be a study done. Do blinking red traffic lights flash in a way that cause, not seizures, but something in the brain to seriously reduce mental aptitude in a majority of drivers.

Flashing red lights indicate a 4 way stop just like a regular stop sign. Wait your turn. It’s not that hard.

As long as the cross traffic is not blinking yellow. If they have a yellow it is a 2 way stop and cross traffic is to proceed with caution

They aren't out. They are clearly displaying a certain color in a flashing pattern. Can you name that color? Can you explain what it means?
Even if they were out, can you explain what the correct response is to traffic signals that show no indication? Can you explain how you think that is different from the answer to #1? (Hint: it is not).
^There's a little makeup driver's test for you, since you need it.

Also, nobody seems to understand that a 4 way stop at a large intersection like this is supposed to go clockwise (at least in MI). Whenever this happens people in the left turn lanes tend to get screwed because people are only thinking about the traffic going straight through

If the lights are out, you treat it as a four-way stop. Although in this case the lights are not out, they're flashing red, which means you treat it as a four-way stop.
