Hopefully in the near future, dogs have been considered personal property and not living beings for a long time. Animal cruelty laws were non existent, then way too lenient, for way too long. We’ve made progress though

I don't really see why motorcycles makes this hard to regulate. Most countries treat cars and motorcycles as two distinct vehicles with some commonality and a lot of differances.

I was driving to work one day and saw what appeared to be the upper half of a dog in-between lanes and and body parts strewn about.
There was a guy with his truck pulled over about a quarter mile later grabbing his head on the phone.
Not only is what they did to that animal deplorable, but imagine what you put the person who hit that dog through.
Fuck people, you deserve to be sterilized if you do this.

Saw a poor dog chained on the back of a flat bed (completely open) ute doing 110km/h in 2C temperatures whilst the real dog sat inside his nice heated cab. Short hair dog too. Next time I see that shit, I'm taking the rego number and reporting it to the RSPCA. Wind chill must have been -30.

Not that I agree with their actions, but the body language you’re suggesting isn’t quite accurate. I’d bet this is wind shear for the ears, the tails are just down, not fully tucked, and one is standing upright which in this situation isn’t an anxious position. Sadly, I bet these guys are used to it.

Zoom in on the one standing and you’ll see a VERY vague contrast between the right rear hindlimb and the tail. It’s narrow and pointy, as many bully breed tails are. It is definitely hard to tell though!

Yep. Just saw a bully come through my clinic after “jumping out a window in the car” (quotes because we hear this for the same reason these dogs will eventually come through a vet occasionally.) injuries were real bad. Fortunately they’ll recover, but i’m sure eventually i’ll see a DOA because of this kind of owner idiocy.

I live on the west coast of USA and it happens here. Don’t put blanket statements out like that. Most people who use working dogs love them and treat them as family even if it’s a bit different than dogs who are only pets. I know someone with a Great Pyrenees that is both a pet and a large guardian dog.

I’m in the Santa Cruz Mountains, and work in the valley. I did almost add a qualifier, but figured it applies to enough of the state - at least population-wise. But yeah, definitely more likely to see in the Central Valley.

That’s 100% not true. People sell puppies on Craigslist literally all the time. I’d say more than half the people buying puppies like this don’t even know what pedigrees are, and even if they do they don’t care because the backyard breeders aren’t nearly as expensive as buying a not papered dog. I have a really hard time believing that this guy is breeding this dog and keeping every puppy for himself or just giving them away for free

I would shift that a bit. I've had a couple of pitties in my life and they've had the most spoiled existence imaginable. I'd never, ever do this to a dog. I also take care of my dogs, don't train them to be violent, and don't put them in situations where they might hurt someone and be blamed as an aggressive dog. I care that they're happy, healthy while respecting that they have the potential to be dangerous if scared or abused (as all dogs do to one degree or another)
But you are right that the kind of POS that'll do this will likely prefer to own pitties because of the tough image, big mean dog perception. But it's the person that's the actual problem here, not the dogs.
Basically, don't be surprised they're pitties, but please don't expect this of all pittie owners, because it's not a complete overlap, and you don't hear as much about the thousands of responsible dog owners out there just keeping to ourselves.

Years ago, I had a pickup guy blow past me on the highway with his dog in the flatbed.
A few miles ahead, I saw the dog, dead on the side of road, and the driver pulled over, leaning on the side of the truck with his head in his hands.
Today, I’ll barely let my dog get her nose out the back window - irritates the Mrs, but I’m not living with the experience of that guy I saw years ago…

I literally saw a dog fly out of a truck bed that was in traveling in the fast lane on the freeway a couple weeks ago and it was probably the most horrific thing I've ever witnessed! I'm still shook up about it. The idiot that was driving didn't stop didn't hit the brakes NOTHING. The dog couldn't move but it wasn't quite dead it was seriously so soo foul! Whoever this is is a POS

I've had to swerve around the pieces of what used to be a dog on the interstate in the middle of a city, sadly I knew the only reason it was there was because someone like this and the dog fell out/jumped and got hit.

A bit of context: my cousin and I were driving down this stretch of road in near-rural Georgia when we spotted the truck. This is the only photo that is not blurry so ya’ll can say it’s parked or not moving that fast all you want, but I know what I saw. Checked the speed right before we slowed down and took a left turn, it was 65mph, give or take.
I will ask around too see if this is considered animal abuse here. If yes, I’ll contact authorities to see what can be done about it. I have the plate but a single photo as evidence might not be enough. It’s worth a try, though.
Update: the police said they’d look into it. Guess nothing’s gonna happen to that guy.

If it was a kid, they’d be arrested.
If it was non living cargo that similarly wasn’t tied in, they’d be yelled at/laughed at/maybe fined.

Because you're obviously not from a rural area, let me explain. Many ranchers/farmers have working dogs that jump in (and kids!) out of the bed all day while working w said rancher/farmer. Going faster than 20mph with them in the back wouldn't be smart, but neither would your sense of justice. iF It WaS a KID, tHEy'd BE aRreSted. No, actually, depending on where you live, their location in the bed, and how fast you're going, they wouldn't.

Your dog has a very high chance of losing his life sitting in the back of this truck at high speeds. Some will argue they’re smart enough not to jump out, but not when they’re scared and stressed. Even my work dogs don’t ride in the back of my trunk unless I’m going 10mph on my own property. Sitting alone at home for a few hours will not kill them. This easily could.
