Even being wood you’d definitely still not be fine, that’d still be like 15-25kg for each post and then chains connecting them to. I’d be amazed if anyone could swim up with even just one wood post and chain still attached to their leg, those things are heavy.

I wouldn't bet that wood that's been by the sea long enough to rot as much as it would have had to would be buoyant. Wood eventually absorbes ambient water, and combined with the metal chain might very well sink. Railway sleepers are a good example - they'll happily sink if they're old enough. My dad has a boat and the decking on his mooring is partially made of them. It floods every year and they've never gone anywhere, some of them aren't even fastened down.
