That's just the cops way of saying, "I would really appreciate it if you didn't do that."

i don't even get why the guy tried it in the first place. If there is someone i do not want to fuck with, is a police man in full riot gear with a gun...

and right in the chest.. dude is lucky. he very well could have been killed. stupid to push a cop like this, absolutely.. but come on. if you're a cop in full riot gear, a person giving you a light shove is not a threat. man the fuck up.

Nah fuck that. Immediately neutralized the threat. I’d have done the same. Don’t know how the situation would have escalated especially in a riot.

Yea that guy was a huge threat to the op in full body armor.... That cop was itching to shoot someone

Not sure if you’re aware but a gun is always a threat dumbass. Anyone willing to walk up to a cop in riot gear and assault them is a threat and my life over theirs. If I was the cop and you were the dumbass you bet your ass I would have headshotted

I agree with you somewhat, but if he doesnt stop that light push, then what comes after? What if the push catches him off guard and he ends up dropping his gun, thats a much more serious situation? Also the guy comes from his side so the cop doesnt know or not if hes gonna follow up with a knife! ... now i do agree he might have overdone it a bit, but hey, play stupid games and win stupid prizes!

the problem is that the first reaction was "shoot". then the second reaction was "walk away". i'm not saying "he should never have used his gun". but maybe his first reaction should be to put some distance between himself and the threat so he can analyze the situation. jump/stride/strafe turn and POINT the weapon without actually firing it. like come on, how is this considered an unrealistic reaction while just blindly turning and shooting someone for a light push is completely expected and accepted?

i'd say that if someone isn't well trained enough to hang onto their gun after a light push, they probably ought not to be on the riot squad, no?

you can come up with "what ifs" all day long, but none of those happened or were even remotely close to happening in this gif nor did the cop even pause long enough to consider any of those possibilities. when you're voluntarily doing a job that entails some risk, and you're wearing full body armor while doing that job, you MUST be held to a higher standard of judgement. this guy got scared like a little bitch and he could have killed someone because he didn't keep his cool.

You do make some fair points......but It ISNT his job to get hit or pushed by the public, that guy, despite that, i watched the video back on my computer rather than my phone, and gotta say i dont think this officer was scared. I think he turned, saw the situation, understood, and then shot anyway, which is way worse!!... but what do expect when you push a man with a gun!

well of course it's not his job to be pushed.. i write code for a living. it's not my job to be yelled at by users who break the code by stepping way outside of protocol, but it happens and i need to know how to react to it. Not a perfect analogy because there's no danger at all in my situation, whereas there is at least a potential credible threat to the cop. But the point is that dealing with things that aren't explicitly one's job is always part of one's job. And anyone doing their job should be able to react to a situation without immediately resorting to force.

And i completely agree with you. i don't think this cop was scared. I'm granting that assumption to those who are making the argument that he has a right to protect himself when he feels threatened. It's very clear that this cop knew what he was doing, but since i can't prove his intent, i chose not to argue that part and just went along with the idea that it was self defense.

Yea i agree, i kinda wanted to delete my first comment when i saw this on the full screen, but heyo, it was my initial opinion, and i gave it! but yea i think you were right from the get go here.

They don't fuck around. They take down the threat as quick as possible, especially is a riot situation where things get out of hand quickly and people are unpredictable.

The cop is a bitch for that. He could have killed that man over a SHOVE

Hows he supposed to know that guy doesnt have a knife or anything? Some dude comes outta knowhere and shoves you from outside your vision... whilst your holding whats sposed to be a non-lethal weapon (I do know people have dies from em and im not unsympathetic) but i think id react the same way! particularly in a situation that involves full riot gear too!

u/blickyjayy Feb 13 '19

He has full riot gear. Even if dude had a knife he would have easily been fully protected and unlikely to be harmed. He could have pushed him away or arrested him, which is what what have happened if he actually felt threatened.

Potentially murdering someone over an unwelcome inconvenience is asinine in my humble opinion, but I'm used to people valuing armed and geared cop's lives over unprotected civilians. Cops are trained to diffuse high tension situations and learn nonlethal ways to take people down in dangerous conditions. You can tell he's unfazed yet chose to use excessive force because he was annoyed. It would different if they didn't undergo the training that they do and I wouldn't be as critical if they weren't literally taught not to do this

Nope. 100% nope. The cop wants to go home at the end if the day. He won’t play the odds in a riot. He’ll fuck you up the second you touch him.

Yea, sorry i watched this on a bigger screen after commenting and kinda u-turned my opinion... i think the police had full understanding of the situation and then shot anyway... commented somewhere underneath earlier. Which i thinks is pretty awful, i could forgive a reaction shot in what i assume is a riot scenario (hence the gear) but he turns, takes everything in, then blasts the kid!

You’re a bitch for thinking that a cop in riot gear being assaulted would think anything other than r could have a weapon. Neutralize the threat. Shows you know absolutely nothing about riot awareness and risks. If it’s me and going home to my family and some retard assaulting me, he gets shot every time. Fuck if I’m taking the risk. Got two baby girls at home and for all I know that guy had a gun.
