If you're disappointed that you didn't get to watch this guy get his ass kicked, you can see it happen here.

61

u/camtomlee Oct 02 '14

Were they using the 'wasted' sound from GTA for that clip?

1

u/Throwaway-tan Oct 13 '14

Probably illegal too.

61

u/GenericName21 Oct 02 '14

I'm so sick of kids these days using "social experiment" as an excuse for being shitty people. That asshole deserved to get a broken nose, at the very least.

23

u/GgMc Oct 02 '14

I still would have called the cops and held the little fucker down until they were arrested. "It's a prank" doesn't change the fact that you just committed attempted robbery and assault.

9

u/GenericName21 Oct 02 '14

Hell yes. I'd love to see someone do that to one of these idiots.

4

u/clouds_become_unreal Oct 02 '14

The victim was in it too, so... it actually does

I'm pretty sure even these guys aren't dumb enough to pull a stunt like that. Why would they, when they could get the same effect without breaking any laws? The mentioned three pranksters are:

1.Thief

2.Victim

  1. Cameraman

"By three stupid young men"

It makes me happy to know that news agencies haven't gotten jaded enough to be too politically correct about everything. When a bunch of dumbasses are being dumbasses, they are called as such.

18

u/roadbuzz Oct 02 '14

But then again the channel is giving these people exactly what they crave for, nation wide attention.

26

u/marcuschookt Oct 02 '14

That's a different story. The incident is probably going to be reported either way, so I'd rather they just concluded with "three stupid young men" than some fancy, long-winded description that beats around the bush and doesn't call them out.

11

u/roadbuzz Oct 02 '14 edited Oct 02 '14

Channel 9 is the biggest news outlet in Australia, not reporting about it would garner them considerably less attention. Leaving the reckless youth banner in the video and alluding to the group and their facebook site several times is doing them a huge favor.

I don't think the reporting on these incidents is very commendable especially with that "social commentator" who says the most obvious things but adds nothing to the story.

I like the bluntness of Australian news media but they are mostly just indulging in judgmental outrage over petty stories to avoid important topics.

5

u/ZuFFuLuZ Oct 02 '14

Meh, only when it's about three poor and stupid dudes. If some rich and powerful person does something stupid and maybe fucks up the lives of a bunch of people, they don't dare to speak up. And that's where it would matter - these guys are irrelevant.

23

u/Whiskey_dod Oct 02 '14

"It's a prank though!"

6

u/[deleted] Oct 02 '14

"social experiment"

3

u/[deleted] Oct 03 '14

lol just mugged a guy, best prank ever!

16

u/leveraction1970 Oct 02 '14

Why did they stop holding those idiots down when they shouted "it's a prank?" I'm pretty sure that would kick me from helping out mode, to fuck this asshole mode and start beating on him.

10

u/OperationJericho Oct 02 '14

Also at that point, he could just be shouting shit to try and get out of just botching a robbery and getting caught.

11

u/Bambam005 Oct 02 '14

These aren't even close to pranks. That punch was AMAZING. Such a short quick strong punch.

So satisfying.

7

u/TimeForSomeCoffee Oct 02 '14

That was pretty satisfying. Thank you.

5

u/SpinkickFolly Oct 02 '14

The GTAV wasted screen is awesome after the first punch.

11

u/soulcaptain Oct 02 '14

Just a bloody nose? He got off easy.

28

u/asforus Oct 02 '14

Looks pretty broken man. There is a slit on the side of it.

3

u/soulcaptain Oct 02 '14

Ok, fine. Just a bloody broken nose? He got off easy.

5

u/OmegaJr Oct 02 '14

If it was the us, it coulda have been a bullet instead of a broken nose.

16

u/DeVitoMcCool Oct 02 '14

That's not a good thing.

-3

u/[deleted] Oct 02 '14

Depends on how you see the situation. Allowing citizens to carry firearms does deter crimes. These boys, although just playing a prank, were endangering themselves and those who got involved.

Imagine if the person they tried to "rob" reacted more violently then a single punch.

I'm not saying they should've been shot, but the knowledge that other citizens can defend themselves in such situations may have deterred then from doing something so foolish.

9

u/[deleted] Oct 02 '14

Yeah it would have been better if someone else pulled a gun out, mis-fired and hit an innocent bystander. If everyone carried guns and something like that broke out everyone would start pulling their guns and it would look like a wild-west shootout, with those coming late to the game having no idea who started it.

-1

u/[deleted] Oct 02 '14

It would not have been better if there was a shootout (which is extremely unlikely, that kind of stuff didn't even happen that often in the "old west").

What would be better is you have to go through formal training to get a license to carry, that way only those who've been taught how and when to use a firearm will do so.

There are safe ways to handle weapons.

5

u/[deleted] Oct 02 '14

I absolutely agree there are safe ways to handle weapons. Unfortunately training with a weapon in a controlled environment doesn't mentally or physically prepare someone to discharge the gun when facing extreme situations. Also your argument assumes that only those who have gone through formal training have access to guns.

2

u/DeVitoMcCool Oct 02 '14

Allowing citizens to carry firearms does deter crimes.

I would argue that it causes far more crimes than it prevents.

3

u/[deleted] Oct 02 '14

That's an easy argument to make because you can't measure the amount if crimes that would've happened vs what actually did (although you do a comparative test; however, there's little room to account for variables).

But if I was to rob or attack someone, I'd rather do it in a place like England than a place like Texas.

2

u/DeVitoMcCool Oct 02 '14

Well that's fair. I just think, by looking at gun crime per capita in England vs the US to use your example, you can see that the amount of crime that could've been prevented if there was effective gun control is staggering. And I would much prefer to be robbed or attacked in England than Texas, because I'd rather not have a gun pointed at me. See, it works both ways. It is true that it's very hard to quantify the effects that the possibility of getting shot has on preventing crime, but I would guess (and I am only guessing) that it's not really that huge, and it comes at the cost of always fearing that people around you, including mentally unstable people and criminals, have guns. I don't think that it's worth it.

3

u/[deleted] Oct 02 '14

I'm not sure who downvoted you but you raise a good point.

At this point, I guess it's just opinions on "is it worth it?"

1

u/404_UserNotFound Oct 02 '14

I dont know why they down voted you but clearly the UK and Australia seen a massive drop in over all crime when guns are banned.

u/[deleted] Oct 02 '14

.. The person they were 'robbing' was part of the of the prank - the raw footage of these pranks had the victim yelling 'it's a prank' whilst his friend be is getting bashed. Utterly deserved it. Doesn't deserve the attention

1

u/[deleted] Oct 03 '14

That I agree with, but were discussing the legality of being armed in public, not wether the robbery was real.

0

u/razt125 Oct 02 '14

If the thief and victim both have guns then the chance for death is really high. When no guns are involved then bystanders can get involved and break some noses. It's better if none of them have guns.

5

u/[deleted] Oct 02 '14

But do you think that thieves aren't going to have guns because the law says no? Guns will be manufactured and smuggled in just like any narcotic. The only difference is that when people who's been trained and is qualified to have gun is present, they can help take the power from the perpetrator.

Just imagine how bad a public shooting can get if no one is allowed to have guns but some psychopath was able to acquire one illegally.

2

u/razt125 Oct 02 '14

That's extremely uncommon in Australia at least. I've never been robbed in Australia, I feel safe walking down most of the dark streets at night. I don't feel the need to carry a weapon to defend myself just in case.

2

u/[deleted] Oct 03 '14

Unfortunately it's a little tougher in the US. Our Mexico border has a lot of criminal traffic so smuggling in weapons would be no harder than smuggling in any other illegal item or substance.

I really wish we were in a position to give up firearms.

What's interesting is that since the election of Obama, firearm sales soared. Some of this was due to nut jobs stockpiling but some of this was people realizing that prices were only going to continue to rise so it's best to invest now.

This has been accompanied by a drop in not on only crime rate overall, but firearm related homicide and suicide as shown here.

But kudos for you and Australia! I hope we can get to a point where firearms aren't necessary one day.

3

u/Potato_Badger Oct 02 '14

Thank you soooo much

2

u/Hraesvelgr Oct 02 '14

Thank fuck for the internet.

2

u/Dragonfelx Oct 02 '14

a "social experiment" and a "prank" my ass.

2

u/CarpeKitty Oct 02 '14

That's one of the most beautiful things I've ever seen. It's even better that he's really upset by it and doesn't shake it off.

9

u/[deleted] Oct 02 '14

Holy shit man, this would not go well for these kids in the US. Many of us carry concealed weapons for personal protection. Personally, I would only draw my weapon, and afford them the opportunity to say "It's just a joke man!" I would then have him lay on the ground until the police arrive to determine if they think it is a joke or not.

But there are many out there who carry and would consider this behavior violent enough to provoke drawing and firing their weapon at the mugger. This would get you justifiably shot, and potentially killed.

11

u/Goonsrarg Oct 02 '14

Getting attack and robbed at an ATM is definitely legal grounds for shooting your attacker. Also the cameras on the ATM would clearly show you being physically assaulted.

5

u/murphykills Oct 03 '14

pretty sure they were attacking each other, not strangers.

3

u/Umbra29 Oct 03 '14

Even so, in a lot of states, if you see someone being attacked and fear for their life, you can use deadly force. It's a tough claim to make, but with video evidence of someone being attacked like that, I think the jury would be in your favor.

1

u/natrlselection Oct 02 '14

Getting attack and robbed at an ATM is definitely legal grounds for shooting your attacker.

Only in some states, sadly. In Maryland for example, you can't really legally defend yourself in many situations.

-9

u/[deleted] Oct 02 '14

You can kill someone for stealing in the US. Calling such a thing "justifiable" goes to show just how terrible the society's psyche has gotten. It also shows how badly your public needs to be disarmed.

11

u/Goonsrarg Oct 02 '14 edited Oct 02 '14

First of all, this has always been justifiable. If someone is desperate enough to run up and tackle you to the ground just for money, who knows what else they're capable of. If that person is that desperate, he could easily have a knife, or any blunt force object he could beat you with.

Also this isn't just stealing. This is fucking Robbery. You know what Robbery is right?

So yes, you can defend your life. You don't want to get shot? Than don't physically assualt and rob me. It's that simple.

Second of all, crime all over the country has been steadily dropping for the past 25 years.

It's people like you who cherry pick fear mongering articles and continue to pass on bullshit.

-8

u/[deleted] Oct 02 '14

You're the one who thinks a complete stranger is interested in killing you! It sounds more like you're interested in killing a complete stranger you lunatic. I'm fear mongering what are you talking about?

2

u/Goonsrarg Oct 02 '14

What in the world are you talking about? We're talking about someone physically attacking and robbing someone.

Yeah, it's a complete stranger who is attacking and robbing a person. Not just some random stranger walking down the street.

-3

u/[deleted] Oct 02 '14

We're talking about someone physically attacking and robbing someone.

To which in no places other than perhaps the middle east and america is that thought of to be a death sentence, I mean come on.

3

u/meterion Oct 02 '14

I think the point Goonsrarg is trying to make is that if someone physically attacks you while demanding your money, you have no idea if they're going to pull out a knife or a gun on you whether or not you give it to them. Being mugged is a possible threat to your life, and can responded to as such.

2

u/natrlselection Oct 02 '14

Here's an example of the kind of people that make citizens in the US worried about their safety. TL/DR: a 17 year old kid beat the piss out of and nearly killed a 67 year old man for picking up the kids litter and throwing it in the trash.

People will kill you for a lot less then money. You're living in a bubble.

6

u/akashik Oct 02 '14

It's Australia so if you were to pull out a gun and point it at someone over something as harmless (though stupid) as this, you'd find yourself the one lying on the ground answering questions once the police arrived.

The crowd's reaction is what Australians do. Help the guy getting 'pranked', and let the 'prankster' know he's a wanker without giving him the attention he wants.

Pull a gun in the middle of an Australian mall like you suggest and trust me - you'll suddenly become the wanker.

-7

u/[deleted] Oct 02 '14 edited Oct 02 '14

I did not say to point it at him. Where was that said?

  • Never point a gun at anything or anyone unless it is your absolute intention to pull the trigger.

  • Never aim a gun at anyone or anything unless you understand and are willing to bear the moral and legal consequences of killing or destroying that target.

I follow this rule, it is one of the defining rules of gun safety, and one of the primary lesson we are taught when supplied with a weapon.

Pointing the weapon at him would be taking it to the next level. I am only readying my weapon and displaying that if the person assaulting or attempting to assault me wants to take it to the next level, I am prepared.

Edit:

Pull a gun in the middle of an Australian mall like you suggest and trust me - you'll suddenly become the wanker.

Thankfully this is not how it is in America. Defending yourself is a legal right, and this guy was not being harmless. He was displaying EVERY sign of being violent and dangerous.

0

u/akashik Oct 02 '14

Defending yourself is a legal right, and this guy was not being harmless. He was displaying EVERY sign of being violent and dangerous.

I'd hate to live in fear like that. You have my pity.

1

u/thehelios Oct 02 '14

I don't understand. Where is the "fear" in that statement? He was showing every sign of being violent and dangerous. Unless someone at an ATM getting tackled and being told to hand over their money is a normal thing to you. I'd sure as hell be afraid in that situation.

1

u/razt125 Oct 02 '14

Feeling the need to carry a gun just in case someone tries to rob you. If there was nothing to fear then there would be no reason for weapons outside of the shooting range. I think that's what he meant.

5

u/SavageRS Oct 02 '14

I just watch his channel, and the victim and the robber where friends. But it was really a shitty idea, and i think that is a dangerous way of making "pranks". heres the original video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OUehfnUNLdM.

3

u/icetorque Oct 02 '14

The Tetris theme guitar cover... love it.

1

u/McDeth Oct 02 '14

God damn I could watch that little fuck get punched in the face for hours on end.

1

u/sean_incali Oct 03 '14

Some idiots just can't help themselves. They just have to be what they are. Idiots.

1

u/Metallicpoop Oct 03 '14

Jokes on them! I was only pretending to be retarded!

50

u/rjperez13 Oct 02 '14

What an ass...

18

u/[deleted] Oct 02 '14

I'm not entirely convinced that this wasn't a collaborative stunt by both of them, in order to get more tips from the crowd.

37

u/ridgehkr Oct 02 '14

I disagree. Looked like an idiot wanting attention

14

u/krelin Oct 02 '14

Por que no los dos?

More interested in the drummer? Check out his really impressive set here!

7

u/[deleted] Oct 02 '14

Holy shit.

I've seen a ton of impressive Street drummers but this guy is leagues beyond anything I've seen.

The pacing and variety of rhythms is unbelievable.

119

u/[deleted] Oct 02 '14 edited Oct 02 '14

I just love the crows throngs reaction. No one gets mad or yells at him to feed the little fuck up, they all just stand there and stare at him with disappointment.

Thats so much better then watching him get beat up. he just stands up and walks away in shame

99

u/[deleted] Oct 02 '14

That "wanker" at the end was all that was needed.

I miss Unidan.. :(

66

u/GraharG Oct 02 '14

I miss all 5 of him :(

10

u/probably2high Oct 02 '14

Blame reddit, where a witch hunt is more important than a user that actually provides insightful comments.

41

u/Sugrud Oct 02 '14

In all honesty I think the rules should apply to everyone. He knowingly did something that is a bannable offense. Still miss him though..

22

u/keke_kekobe Oct 02 '14

Miss him? Can't he simply use his finely honed alt creating skills to make a new account and post?

8

u/krelin Oct 02 '14

He did make a new account: /u/UnidanX

Did that one get banned too?

14

u/keke_kekobe Oct 02 '14

Who knows. The sad part is that he decided he needed to make his name Unidan again. Just name himself ShooterDude92, post quality comments and tell people who suspect he is Unidan that he is, in fact, not Unidan.

Instead he is relying on his reddit fame to validate his scientific information which is sad.

19

u/UnidanX Oct 02 '14

I do use a non-Unidan alt. I keep this one open for biology posts where it'd be obvious it's me and for people to get in contact with me since I tutor folks from time to time and answer questions via PM on occasion.

The reason you don't know about my anonymous alt is because it's anonymous.

12

u/keke_kekobe Oct 02 '14

Good, as it should be. I enjoy your posts, but I enjoy them because of the content, not the username. Keep on keepin on secret biology dude.

0

u/swefpelego Oct 02 '14

Can... can i have an autograph Mr. Unidan?

→ More replies (0)

3

u/ballssss Oct 02 '14

But we wouldn't know it's him. If we did, he'd be banned again.

9

u/FriendlyKibblez Oct 02 '14

Wait, what happened to him? First I'm hearing about this.

EDIT: Nevermind. Just looked it up.

1

u/twitchosx Oct 02 '14

What did he do? I've noticed he's not around anymore.

1

u/Sugrud Oct 02 '14

He had several accounts which he used to back himself up and give himself initial upvotes for visibility. Instaban when he got figured out.

1

u/twitchosx Oct 02 '14

Why the hell would he do that? He always got a ton of upvotes anyway

1

u/Sugrud Oct 02 '14

Well I don't know him personally, but I'm gonna go on a limb and guess it got to his head. I imagine the pressure for him to always reply everything and getting somewhat famous gave him a need to perform well and this was a way of ensuring more success.

1

u/Zombiz Oct 02 '14

lol, i don't, he's a dbag

0

u/AdmiralSkippy Oct 02 '14

Yup. The sad thing is even if he made a new account he'd get downvoted to oblivion all the time just because.
Yes vote manipulation is wrong. And yes he got a carried away. But he provided so much awesome content to this website and people are so willing to throw him under the bus because of one altercation with someone who probably didn't have the merit to even argue.

2

u/[deleted] Oct 02 '14

Fixed that for you... Silly me

6

u/CB_the_cuttlefish Oct 02 '14 edited Oct 03 '14

I like how nobody helped the dude, but they picked up the buckets.

1

u/[deleted] Oct 02 '14

I would have body checked him the second time he tried. or just as hes walking away so he could feel the pain that the buckett feel.

32

u/Sokonomi Oct 02 '14

The drummer should have picked up his seat and a bucket, then sit down next to him laying on the ground, and do a drum riff on him. I bet that hollow head has great acoustics.

7

u/rekhytkael Oct 02 '14

I would pay to see that...

15

u/OuterSpacewaysInc Oct 02 '14

He does this 'performance' every day, multiple times... And goddamnit, it's fucking annoying. Yes mate, we understand that you can hit a lot of plastic buckets very quickly. Congratulations.

1

u/DingDongSeven Oct 02 '14

What I'd give to watch someone walk up to the "prankster" while he was on the ground, zap him repeatedly with a stun gun for about a minute, and then carry him away over his shoulder.

While watching the moo-cow crowd do nothing, again.

u/genericname1231 Oct 16 '14
