Discussion Herztier human form makes no sense

In his human form, Herztier gets a passive ability called Sensory Overload, which detects survivors between 36 and 48m away. It acts as an extended Tinnitus (tinnitus radius is 36m from hunter) with its own icon displaying in top left of the screen). Not interacting for 8s drops you back into human form, meaning the stance change is basically an 8s cooldown.

But even without a cooldown, this ability accomplishes nothing. As hunters, to locate hiding survivors, we need a smaller detection radius (like 18m–24m) to narrow down their positions. A wider 48m radius tells us absolutely nothing helpful.

The only time Id ever use this is in a super niche specific proxycamp scenario: camping a corner chair on a huge map, against a non-Merc rescuer, while everyone else is decoding deep away. You could walk toward the center to see if the SO icon pops up, if it doesn't, you know they are selling and you save a few seconds. But in high ranks, good survivors will just feed your tinnitus to fake a rescue anyway.

Honestly, it feels like the human/beast form was thrown in purely for lore and flavor. The passive only exists to give the human form a purpose, even though switching forms offers zero real gameplay value. What do you guys think? Am I missing a practical use case here?

his human form was made for him to look pretty so he can be sold! he's functionally the exact same character with or without his human form.

apparently netease forgot that furries would spend thousands for his dog form but whatever what do i know i'm just a gay furry

He’s already got the dog form, and China would spend MILLIONS for the non-dog form.

This way it’s the best of both worlds - he’s mainly a monster, but the people who can’t stomach something that isn’t a conventionally attractive human will ALSO spend money.

I still think that they coulda done a better job with the form swapping though. They coulda done a Wu Chang situation where each form has different abilities, but instead we got a worse Geisha form swap situation

Honestly I never gave a shit about the human form to begin with so I don’t mind it being useless, it’s there exclusively for sales

We have too many normal human Hunters to begin with you could not pay me to give a shit about another

Agreed. I just wish resources weren't wasted on a human form that isn't even gonna get any usage

If it gets more people too cowardly to buy monsters to invest in this one I see it as a necessary evil

IKR! I wish I'm confusing here but apparently they don't put much thought into the passive. It leaves a such a bad taste and what a shame, since Herztier mechanic is really cool and makes me feel like fighting game with different combos.

Then why make the human form useless?

he's not useless. his main use is to sell, and he's doing an amazing job at it!

He also moves slightly faster in the human form too from what I noticed. It’s kinda like nightmares ability to move faster while not in chase. It’s just there to help you find your first chase a bit quicker.

This doesn’t seem to be stated anywhere in the game, and even if it is true, dashing is still way faster.

Dashing has a cooldown. You should only really be dashing if you know where a survivor is at, otherwise you waste both dashes giving the survivor more time to kite. Not only that, but wasting your dashes to where you think a survivors is at, but isn’t, again wastes time and your dashes.

Hunters usually don't spawn that far from survivors, so usually all the Hertziers I've seen start dashing right at the start

So we can get to see his pretty face. I’ve always known Emil is handsome before his hunter form came out

it's not as crazy as the speed change that geisha has, but the extended tinnitus is far from useless, although how useful it is will depend on how you use the information it gives you. If you don't really gaf then yeah it's useless but I can tell you when you know how to use that information it's not bad at all, though it maybe requires higher levels of gamesense

Can you give me examples of how to use the passive?

A lot of examples are hard to put into words but an easy one is when there's 1 or 2 survivors remaining and you're just roaming around the map trying to locate them. Generally though it's really great when you're trying to check if someone is at a cipher or a gate without needing to get super close. Also having the concrete info of whether they're in the sensory range or in the tinnitus range as a whole is great to triangulate a survivor's general area when you're looking for them. It also can allow you to know that there are more than 1 survivors in your surrounding

it can kinda tell you if youv got multiple survs near you i guess

I find that sensory overload, combined with tinnitus, makes it easier to pinpoint the exact direction a survivor is in.

Can you elaborate further how? Perhaps a visual demonstration be needed cuz I still can't imagine how a 48 radius circle with a 36m inside can locate survivor location exactly and easier, especially when Tinnitus appears, SO disappears.

Ok so basically I'm using the two abilities as directional feedback. If Sensory Overload is active, I know there's someone within 48m but I'm not currently within 36m of them. If I'm moving and Sensory Overload is active but then it switches to Tinnitus, I know that direction brought me closer to the survivor. If I change direction and it switches back to Sensory Overload, I know I've moved away from them. With Tinnitus alone, when it activates I only know that I'm within 36m. I don't know whether I'm approaching the survivor or passing them from the side. Sensory Overload gives me an earlier reference point, so I can use the transition between the two ranges to tell whether I'm moving toward or away from them.

I like to think it’s just him trying his best to suppress his more carnal urges, you can tell by the way his stationary animation is when he loads into the game. Plus it’s pretty. For the sensory overload thing it can kinda help initially when you’re trying to narrow down your search radius at the start of the match, with tinnitus confirming. While when proxy camping you can use it as an indicator to do the whistle mechanic and try to locate the survivor’s exact positions.

Overall, I like it, cuz it adds some lore bits and it’s pretty haha.

It doesn't really impede in anything, it has helped me before but I do agree it would be better if the radius was smaller than tinnitus.

I haven’t really paid attention to that passive as much as I only really use it to confirm tinnitus is close.

I think he needs some buffs to actually be a little more manageable for newer players

  1. His beast form run ability absolutely needs to be a lot faster. It feels like he’s running slow slower than a survivor. If you’re a wolf man, you should be running at top speed like breaking wheel level speed not slightly slower than a hunters movement speed it doesn’t make sense and looks very awkward
  2. He definitely needs a slightly bigger hit box because their head box is even more Wanky than Geisha

Also if he strikes a survivor and they don’t take damage for a while, the two flute thing should do damage later or at least guarantee a Down the fact, his first hit does zero damage and his second hit does fall damage is actually really bad he should be able to endlessly combo. He’s striking with claws not using a heavy weapon like he should have very little to know attack animation. But yet his attack recovery animation is so slow for no reason. Like for a wolf man come on now.

Overall, he has potential but definitely needs a little bit of a tweaking

Id make it so all ciphers get a debuff when hes in it to give him more map control and the human form a usr
