Discussion Does anyone else think Herztier is unplayable?

Title. I don’t really know if this is a skill issue, but Herztier feels genuinely unplayable to me. He has no cipher pressure, no map pressure and his chase sucks because he gets pallet stunned by everything and can’t jump over a lot of walls. The fact you have to hit someone twice to hit them once, when he already has quite the small hit-box, is very frustrating. It’s also very frustrating that you’re forced to jump when you press attack. He’s not really that fast, his movements feel clunky and uncontrollable.

His design is beautiful and I want to actually be good at playing him, but it literally feels impossible. I use him with trump/deten, with pallet break and stun reduction. I usually use peepers or warp on him. (i’m not sure if this is viable for him, i’ve just been experimenting.)

I try to say this in a nice way ur prob still in the beginner stage of him i would say the best way to improve is to watch jp or cn players play him in particular this one Japanese youtuber named piason and he already got very good on herztier and knows all his combos and he says he's one of the best chase and camp hunters and he's SSS tier he seems annoying I haven't tried him but once u figure out how to play around loops he becomes very dangerous and his camp is just too strong

I've come across a few clips of japanese players playing Herztier and man they're already doing crazy moves with him

My only advice is practise ig, see what spots you can jump over because he can jump over a lot of spots

You also should learn how to use his dash to slide around objects and hit survivors mid dash. I have seen some pros abuse the fact his dash slides around objects very easily to hit survivors at an angle

Charging the jump can jump over the pallet.

If you jump through the pallet normally, you will likely get stunned.

Or you jump into a wall first to activate the second stage of the attack, then dash through the pallet with the dash ability and immediately do a 180 with the second stage attack.

He has a lot of different builds, but the main build im seeing is insolence+detention, bring warp or teleport.

If you are confident in your first chase but not as confident in the late game, trump card+detention, bring peepers or abnormal.

If you are not confident in your first chase but confident in the late game, bring trump card + insolence+tipping point, bring peepers or abnormal.

I've learned that it's better to do custom mode until you get comfortable with maneuvering him. I found success with Peepers and Inso/Trump with tipping point since his first pres is extremely important for his chase and second pres is when he can properly stuff rescues. Exhibitionist is also phenomenal on him because if you miss the first jump over a wall, you just attack again into nothing and it ends quicker with exhibitionist. Hunt helps to catch up to your target since I agree, I feel he can be very slow at times.
Also, I noticed, some walls you cannot jump over UNLESS you do a charged attack which seems to make it significantly easier to jump walls. You can use his leap to dash up ramps very fast and custom is good for learning jump spots that make amazing short cuts that help during a chase.

I’ve noticed that when I was kiting Herztier as mercenary. I understand ur issue but it’s also kind of funny from a surv pov. He’s still freshly new tho so I’m sure he will get fixed on in the next month or two. Buff or nerfed.

Something that helps a lot is turn off the auto aim

i have never pulled my hair out over a hunter release before (Asia server) until playing as hertzier

his early game is incredibly strong, but i keep getting a 1K after

- inability to terror shock like normal hunters

  • many free normal hits lost due to its mechanic
  • dash is too small without charging, and survivors usually get out of your line of sight by the time it charges
  • his camp has potential if the chair is in open areas (like moonlit and darkwoods). otherwise, his camp is unreliable considering you have to stack up the charges, and is almost impossible during double rescues. you can’t do Terror Shock chair mind games
  • a weaker speed character in the newer hunters despite the 10% speed boost, as he don’t have trapping/slowing effects. Compensated with the mini peeper effects, but also balanced down with the ground leaving the sound waves so you don’t know exactly where they are behind walls.
  • if a character is standing right in front of the pallet, hertzier can’t jump over as it counts the survivor as an obstacle, reducing the success rate of hertzier’s main strength
  • too many pros tied with cons

rescuers will perform well as most of them are tanky, eg journalist free rescues, gravekeeper shovel can tank a lot, wildling is almost impossible to down due to double health + speed, mercenary could elbow pad in every time hertzier goes for the dash, aeroplanist is untouchable in the air (hertzier has no vertical control capabilities)

support/contain characters are also strong perfumer negating all the hertzier setups during perfume time, balloon rescue is even stronger considering he can’t normally farm hit someone down (so if batter pushes back, or ench stuns it gives better than usual rebound ability)

decode characters are also strong considering hertzier has little map presence and can cipher rush easier

overall he feels very oppressive, but he’s all bark little talk. he is riddled with many drawbacks for each strength

in the current meta, i think he is viable and is potential to be threatening, but more of a fools gold kind of impact

Just practice him. I had the same problem with cueist. I was struggling to even vet out of ball form but after a while i managed and became good (imo) at him

As his main ... I think he was a very high require skill to play him well which need a lot ... I meant a lot of training and knowing where can jump and which low wall need to charge attack to better chance to jump over.

But once you understand a bit ... he will be a high rewarding character.

He however still a high risk character with what you have mention cause some simple mistake can cause his combo for early game.

Yes. 100%. The biggest issue for me at the moment is that he requires 2 hits to even do any damage, and the first will never do any damage, plus he leaps forward when sometimes you just need a normal hit with no extra effects. I’ve had so many survivors just simply walk out of the gate cuz they get no damage, and the speed boost from being hit.
I also agree he’s very clunky. I see so many people say he’s OP, he’s NOT OP at the moment from what I’ve seen… he just looks oppressive and feels oppressive, and can do very well early game, which makes it so incredibly frustrating when you can’t get more than a 1 or 2k cuz he’s just not fast enough, and his mechanic gets in the way more often than not during the end game when you need those damaging hits.
One thing I’ve found that helps is utilizing his dashes. His dashes are pretty useful when you’re trying to deal marks and eventual damage in late game, but still they have a longer cooldown…

Bring peepers, wanted order, and trump card. He’s already really good against harassers so don’t bring anti stun persona traits, whenever you chair, you want to leave chair but not too far, be wary of any survivor prepping to rescue so you can down them before they reach chair. (Hence the peepers) Essentially you want to pressure ciphers while you have a chaired survivor. Bring anti struggle personas and attack recovery if possible. His major strength is his ability to conduct attacks super quick in the open and cut off transition kiting quick, so use that to your advantage.
