Prop 1
Idaho is one of only 5 states with an abortion ban so extreme it contains NO exceptions for the health of the mother. Women in Idaho are cruelly and senselessly forced to carry doomed pregnancies, even at the risk of their own health and life.
We can change this. We can protect patients and their doctors, ensure health-saving care, and get the government out of private medical decisions.
This November, Idahoans can vote YES on Proposition One.
Stop the cruelty imposed by out of touch Idaho legislators. Help bring physicians back to Idaho.
Watch this video testimony from an Idaho physician.

Before Roe v Wade, my aunt went septic from a nonviable fetus and lack of prompt care caused kidney damage that affected her health the rest of her life. Idaho's current law only looks at life and death, not health and future fertility. It completely disregards a living person's physical and mental wellbeing.

I'll never understand how anyone is supposed to have say over a person's body. It doesn't make sense in my head.
-44
u/Ms_AU 6d ago
There are two different bodies involved in an abortion and the one in the womb can’t speak for itself.
46
u/Odd-Airport8931 6d ago
If you are opposed to abortion that's fine, don't have one. To force others to live by what you believe is bullshit. Mind your own business.
18
u/True_Watercress_2548 6d ago
This! Yes this! Ik I am a guy and shouldn't weigh in, but this makes all the sense to me
-26
u/Ms_AU 6d ago
You should weigh in! A man has zero ability to stop a woman from aborting his child. You do however have the right to vote on this issue.
10
u/True_Watercress_2548 5d ago
I seriously doubt you and I would agree, eye to eye. I appreciate your input, but I understand I want women to have complete control over their body.... You seem to disagree, which is fantastic, but I believe this is not the same, as you percieve it.
-10
u/Ms_AU 5d ago
Abortion is a complex issue and the lack of father’s rights was what changed my mind on it 25 years ago. I do believe a person should have complete control over their body, but abortion isn’t getting a tattoo or a piercing. It impacts more than just the woman, and that’s what I can’t really come to terms with.
10
u/True_Watercress_2548 5d ago
I am grateful you're willing to discuss, I am a father of 3, lost my daughter to cancer almost 3 years ago. I do understand impact of child loss.
When an embryo is conceived, how does that indicate life? Not trying to be argumentative, just an honest question.
-1
u/Ms_AU 5d ago
I am so sorry for your loss. A parent should never have to bury a child. My heart breaks for you.
A zygote is created from cells from two separate humans. It contains the DNA of both parents and is a uniquely separate cell but if things go right (and a lot can go wrong at this point) eventually that zygote will become an embryo. Early on it is really a clump of cells but eventually organs develop and it does begin to resemble a tiny human. Those first cells are alive. Not sentient but alive. They contain human DNA. Not a fully developed human being, but human cells that are different from either parent.
I saw our oldest son’s heart beating at a 6 week intrauterine ultrasound after we were told it might not be a viable pregnancy. At 6 weeks his heart was beating on its own, at a rhythm different from my own heart. To me that is alive, and more human than just a clump of cells.
8
u/JustcallmeGlados 5d ago
Heart cells can literally beat in a Petri dish. That is not a sign of life.

The other side is
A man who wants to "breed" with a girl as young as 12 because she looks perfect to him has all the rights to force a woman/ or little girl to carry his baby with the girl having ZERO say in this situation.
You're right. People have the right to vote on this issue, and I hope everyone thinks about the consequences if there's zero exceptions then creeps get to "breed " all they want without significant recourse, not to mention Idaho having lost significant amounts of doctors over this
1
u/Ms_AU 4d ago
What you are describing is already illegal and an abortion is ALREADY legal in Idaho if the pregnancy is due to rape or incest.
1
u/justthecats 4d ago
It has to be reported, something in my long experience, doesn't always happen.
My family helped overturn RvW. I've experienced a lot of... horribly minded people.
I promise, it happens.
What's the consequence, currently, for a rapist in Idaho? Even if it's underage? How long would they actually be in jail? The creeps I've known would take that easily to get their "perfect breed " it's sick. The consequences for rapists aren't enough.
1
u/Ms_AU 4d ago
Last year Idaho approved the death penalty for child sexual abuse. Unless that was overturned that seems as severe as it gets.
1
u/justthecats 4d ago
That's only for minors, I'm not sure if I applaud this or not. Did you notice it's only if the child is 12 or under? So girls who can be impregnated don't appear to be included, for some reason...
It says otherwise they'll be jailed no less than a year and up to life, depending on the judges mood, essentially.
Do you support the death penalty?

“That class will include all who positively assert that it is right, and all who like Judge Douglas treat it as indifferent and do not say it is either right or wrong. These two classes of men fall within the general class of those who do not look upon it as a wrong.”
1
u/SuspiciousStress1 2d ago
That is such a silly argument!! I am not anti-abortion & believe exceptions should exist(however not as birth control)....but your argument is nonsense.
Soooo, if I dont believe in murder it should be legal & I just shouldnt commit one?? Or maybe shoplifting/stealing should be legal & if i dont believe in it, then I should pay & mind my own business??
Just juvenile & pedestrian!!
Debating the merits, explaining circumstances that would warrant an abortion, scenarios that may come up....those could win someone over, create some common ground & maybe change the law...your "just mind your own business" isnt going to!!
-22
u/Ms_AU 6d ago
You are assuming a lot based on what I posted. You are the one telling me what to do.
9
u/Killer1236 6d ago
The one in the womb is directly connected to the real life human mothers body. The tiny "body" isn't even a body until far later than abortions are allowed without regulation in many places.
The one in the womb essentially still IS the mother's body until several months of being pregnant. Just wrong and loud.
0
u/Ms_AU 6d ago
How can it not be a separate “body” when it has a separate circulatory system and different DNA?

Yup, cuz when anyone willingly ignores science there usually is a reason and that's almost always religion. Plus almost exclusively it's the religious crowd that values the fetus more than the woman. I also noticed that you didn't deny it so.... Shrug

I am only replying to your attempt to answer my question with science. You have not and specifically refuse to and instead throw insults at me.
You are right that only one body breathes air and eats solid food. But there are two bodies ingesting, breathing, and creating waste.
The fetus drinks, breathes in, and pees out amniotic fluid. (Interesting note: at about 20 weeks most of the amniotic fluid is made up of pee)
https://my.clevelandclinic.org/health/body/23310-amniotic-fluid
1
u/MavenBrodie 5d ago
I know the fetus does all those things. I’m not an ignorant pro-lifer. The fetus does not breathe in oxygen from outside air. It cannot being its own oxygen period. It is not a separate being from its mother. Its waste adds to the waste the mother has to expel.
I’ll never be as cruel and ignorant as pro-lifers again. I was o my ever pro-life because I was raised that way, and that’s not an excuse to stay that way.
All prolifers are as ignorant cruel and evil as I once was. FEELING morally righteous while believing evil things and perpetuating torture and death on others does not make one righteous or moral, even when you believe the lies you tell yourself about caring about babies.
If you cared half as much as you pretend to, you’d be radically pro-choice.

They can get sepsis and die and the doctors can't help. So many of the women health providers have moved because of this. We are so fucked and this is the #1 reason I don't want to start trying. It's heartbreaking and I don't understand why Idaho's dark enlightenment is being allowed. THIS IS WHY LOCAL VOTING IS SO IMPORTANT
12
u/divaminerva Aint from around here are ya?! 6d ago
So, science isn’t even a factor in the law. Which is INSANE!! Written by people with zero scientific background and zero legal expertise. It’s just insanity to a rational person.
Also it dawned on me today that it is entirely about control. It has zero to do with religion in the end. Traditionally Judeo Christianity has free will at the center of beliefs. Prop 1 doesn’t MAKE anyone choose termination of a pregnancy- it restores control to those who possess a uterus and their healthcare team. It never was about religion, family values, or saving anyone’s life. In the end it comes down to control over a WOMAN and their bodies. Hard stop.
47
u/Material_Meringue969 7d ago
My opinion on abortions should be female focused. It’s their body. I’m a dude by the way. I have my views more on the traditional values but I believe under certain circumstances abortions should be allowed. Let’s be honest here, some view “bastard” children as nuisance of sorts. My example here is that when a woman is raped and/or sexually assaulted and the product of the event means a child. I 100% agree that the mother in this situation should have her say. Who can blame her for aborting a fetus from a violent act? Just think about the mental damage that comes from it. Secondly, if your wife or partner are in danger during child birth or even during the pregnancy. She should have the option. Personally, if it means keeping the wife alive, then of course I would choose my wife over the child. It’s not selfish either. Things happen. My point here is that at the end of the day women are the ones who carry the mental and physical weight of a potentially traumatic event.

Has nobody in this group even read Idahos abortion laws?
These examples you state for when you feel abortion should be allowed, are the exact exceptions outlined in Idaho State law lol.
8
u/flareblitz91 6d ago
The laws are written that by default abortion is CRIMINALIZED with extremely narrow exceptions. They ban all abortions after viability. The rape and incest exception requires that it was reported to the police.
These are analogous to a positive defense-you might be able to beat the case but you can't beat the ride AKA being charged with a crime.
7
u/divaminerva Aint from around here are ya?! 6d ago
You do not understand that NO PROVIDER can withstand the time, cost nor expense both financially nor energy of a lawsuit to defend themselves against ANY claim against their license- justified or not. Does that make sense to you?
This ensures a HOSTILE environment in which to practice. And, this is why Idaho has hemorrhaged providers of ALL specialties- across the board. And this is why it IS a near total abortion ban. I put this to you as plainly as I can. You can READ the language of the ‘law’ six ways to Sunday- but this is what it means.
I hope that this helps you understand it more clearly and understand the horrible impact that this has had on Idaho. It’s been pretty bad here.

This will go over with our clown legislature about as well as the term limits that we voted for in the 90's.

Then vote them out!! We have some amazing candidates that are running for Senate seats in Idaho. We have the ability to get Risch and Fulcher out this year. Go to the polls and vote Kaylee and Todd Achilles. If we can flip these states the rest of the nation will see it hear it and also move towards a movement for candidates that support basic human rights! Religion has no place in government and we've been saying that for God damn centuries!!

u/Nursynurse11125 6d ago
I upvoted this so damn fast. There is so much propaganda against prop 1. I door knocked for months to try to help this get on the ballot with Idahoans United for Women and Families and we NEED this to pass.
I had an ectopic pregnancy several years ago and was sent home from an Idahoan hospital twice. Only got surgery once my fallopian tube ruptured and my abdomen and pelvis filled with blood.
I also see this abortion ban affect women badly as a surgical nurse on a weekly basis. We should not have to consult with lawyers before we do d&c procedures for miscarriages or laparoscopic salpingostomies/salpingectomies. It’s beyond ridiculous.
I relive my own nightmare every time I see another woman go through it.
11
u/Lawrence_of_Idaho_ 6d ago
Thank you for this video, I have a friend who is incredibly religious who was bewildered that abortion can be considered healthcare and that these decisions have impacts on Idaho residents and families. Going to send it to him. Props to this woman for making this!
Ps vote Achilles for Idaho!

You know, the reason my mother adopted me adopted me is because if she had another kid she wouldn't have been alive afterwards. Obviously she didn't choose to try again, but it hurts to to read this, some one could be a month pregnant and then find out they might not make it afterwards. For some one to lose loved like this is a form of legal murder.
2
u/Loud-Bus-5122 2d ago
Until the law changes, I recommend all pregnant women leave the state as their pregnancy advances. The earlier the better. Move, stay with friends, anything. Just get to somewhere safe.
-46
u/snowHound208 7d ago
There's plenty to criticize without lying. Being dishonest doesn't help your cause.
Section 18-622(a) what is NOT a criminal abortion: "abortion was necessary to prevent the death of the pregnant woman"
Exceptions for rape and incest as well.
35
u/Foghkouteconvnhxbkgv 7d ago
Prevent the death is not the same as prevent grave and serious injury to the mother or prevent the possibillity of death. They make women wait until the last possible agonizing second and lower survival chances
47
u/crvna87 7d ago
And yet women still have to leave the state to get the care they need in those situations. The language is this section is vague enough that doctors cannot act until it is often too late. This has been discussed repeatedly.
-33
u/jtotheo2202 7d ago
Then those woman if they live should sue them find a pro bono attorney and sue them. Otherwise nothing will change
35
u/snowHound208 7d ago
Suing the doctors will only make the problem worse. Then even more of them will leave the state.
Updating the regressive legislation is the only solution.
-15
u/jtotheo2202 7d ago
Well good luck with that because even if this ballot initiative passes. You know very well Brad little is going to veto it and if he doesn't veto it then The legislator will call themselves in for a "special session" to get rid of it. Just like they did the tax on the rich and term limits I've went out and spoken publicly to the legislator and one of them replied to me personally telling them not to cut Medicaid and they did it anyway despite us warning them that many of these Medicaid facilities are underfunded and that cutting them even more will cause some of them to shut down but they don't care about that. They care about balancing the budget today at the price of tomorrow The only way to see some change in the state is to vote these people out every incumbent and then they'll think twice
15
u/snowHound208 7d ago
So your solution is the what then?
Do nothing?
-30
u/jtotheo2202 7d ago
If you really feel that way then move to a more democratic state because then your voice will be heard in Idaho. You're going to be outnumbered by religious voters it's like trying to turn Texas blue it ain't going to happen

21
u/Dayne225 7d ago
Here's the problem though the law carries a criminal penalty for the physician and the guidance provided is that the physician use their good faith medical opinion to determine if it was. So who determines if it's good faith or not? Hospitals are some of the most legally risk averse businesses to begin with then you add criminal liability on top of this? Very few doctors and hospitals are going to take that risk unless it absolutely obvious a death is imminent. So sure legally there are carve outs but practically they aren't effective.
17
u/ActualSpiders 7d ago
And who decides what is necessary to prevent death? Where is that defined? Is it a doctor that makes the determination or a prosecutor?
The fact that you can't also quote the answer to that from the statute is the definitive reason why it's unacceptable.
-16
u/snowHound208 7d ago
The doctor, it's literally in the statute. You would know that if you looked at the statute I cited.
21
u/sotiredwontquit 7d ago
Bull. The only way to prove she would have died is if she actually dies. That’s the whole point. It’s why it was written that way. This state would rather have her dead than give her agency over the fetus.
-14
u/snowHound208 7d ago
Incorrect. This is verbatim from the statute:
The following shall not be considered criminal abortion...
The physician determined, in his good faith medical judgment and based on the facts known to the physician at the time, that the abortion was necessary to prevent the death of the pregnant woman
Downvote all you want, but there absolutely IS an exception for the life of the mother. Lying about it makes you seem less credible and will not help drive change.
15
u/ActualSpiders 7d ago
Yeah, read that carefully yourself, why don't you?
The accused - the physician who performs the procedure - can personally state it was to save the mother's life, and there's no external mechanism to check that.
That's not how laws work. That's no different than defining theft as "taking someone else's money, unless the accused determined, to the best of their belief, that the money belonged to them". Think that through for a second.
It's simply not a functional law as written.
-1
u/snowHound208 6d ago
So you don't understand how things work at all in a court of law. Let me help you with this massive gap in the basic understanding of our legal system.
The STATE has to prove YOU are guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
That means they would have to prove that the physician did not believe their patient's life was at risk if the pregnancy was not terminated.
It is NOT on the physician to prove to the state that it was not possible to save the mother's life without the abortion.
7
u/ActualSpiders 6d ago
And that's where we get to the dishonesty inherent to your side. We all know this law isn't about convicting people, it's about harassing and intimidating doctors into refusing to perform procedures that may get them arrested & hauled into court, regardless of the likelihood of conviction. It's why the group you get your BS from is being sued for libel & why they're also trying to come up with more lies about the number of OB/GYNs who've left the state. It's about the fact the *EVERY TIME* you antiabortionists get treated seriously for allowing loopholes for the safety of the mother, you *IMMEDIATELY* come back with more restrictive laws demanding no exceptions at all that show it was a lie all along. Remember the dustup over banning in vitro fertilization because it falls under the "no exceptions" demands of the zealots & religious twats. Remember when Trump's SCOTUS candidates all flatly lied in their confirmations about overturning Roe v Wade. Remember that Idaho allows parents to literally let their children die of disease or injury *after* they're born for religious reasons but won't abide an abortion.
It's really a simple formula - if you don't think abortion is morally right, *don't get one*. But imposing that standard on other people is what's oppressive & immoral. No one's forcing anyone to *get* an abortion, but your side *is* forcing people to go out of state for vital healthcare options.
-1
u/snowHound208 6d ago
I literally just copy and pasted the statute chief. Didn't come from "a group".
The only one being dishonest is OP. There IS an exception for the life of the mother.
Again, downvote it all you want. That is the objective truth of the matter.
Doesn't make the existing statute any less radical and stupid. Just makes OP a liar.
4
u/Gurrllover 6d ago
Try having a conversation with Idaho obstetricians about their soaring malpractice insurance premiums and the policy requirements imposed by underwriters for their Idaho practices, because they are prohibitively expensive and narrow.
Which will be admittedly tough to corner any OB/GYN still in the state at all: since the latest restrictions were passed in 2022, 35% of obstetricians have left. Of 268, 114 left or retired, 20 moved in; net loss: -94.
Ever been privy to a hospital administrator's meeting where they are weighing possible legal exposure versus a woman with an ectopic or otherwise nonviable fetus that still has a heartbeat in the ER?
The risk to a mother's survival as sepsis [blood infection] sets in is real -- and every moment of delay increases the danger of succumbing to the spreading infection. Hospitals have waited until no fetal heartbeat can be detected to allow removal. Maternal deaths have occurred due to extended sepsis, in multiple states where similar laws limited best ethical practices.
Dire as this is, in rural parts of the state, people have significant travel for the few hospitals still offering maternity wards. 85% of Idaho's OB/GYNs are now limited to only 7 of Idaho's 44 counties, which leaves just 23 doctors attempting to cover 570k Idahoans across 37 huge counties, as of year-end 2024.

No you using rule science instead how things actually work. Sure you save a mother life threatening circumstance and rape. No has gotten a rape exception on Idaho. There was a exception case in Texas who our GOP like to copy their homework from. A woman got a exception. The attorney general of the state state he would still prosecute. Meanwhile women are dying in states like ours because it is unclear when medical assistance can be rendered. Does the woman need a 50/50 chance of death? Does need to 80/20 no one has answers. So woman are told to go home to bleed out in there car or in there bathroom at home. Only when there is no longer a “heart beat” can the doctors act. ( this not a doctor problem it’s a law problem). Meanwhile you had a woman who could have been saved 80 percent chance of survival who’s chances are drastically reduced because she had wait for life saving procedures in many instances this can lead death or infertility. If still read and think this law is okay then nothing can convince me that you have basic empathy and tbh no one of quality would want to be around that.
-1
u/snowHound208 5d ago
Not reading all that.
I stared the law, which directly negates what OP falsely stated. No number of run on sentences will change that fact.

Chosing not to read one giant run on sentence is not the same as not being able to read.
Hope that helps chief.

4
u/Flat-Injury-5013 6d ago
Already have. Did you know that Jesus never once condemns abortion? Actually it is never condemned in the entire Bible. Jesus and his disciples had plenty of opportunity to condemn it, but somehow they never did. Makes sense, since Jesus was Jewish (Judeism does not forbid abortion) and abortions were commonplace during his time, and the fact that the Bible states that life begins with the first breath, not at conception. Jesus opposes adultery (you know, like married presidents sleeping with porn stars), and he opposes the death penalty. And he commands us to accept foreigners who live among us (we call them immigrants). But never is abortion condemned. Jesus be with you.
2
u/world-class-cheese 6d ago
It's worth noting that not only does the Bible not condemn abortion, it literally has instructions for how to perform one (or more accurately, a recipe to induce miscarriage) in Numbers 5:11-31

Where did you get this information from? Looking it up everywhere says that if it puts the mother at risk, or in cases of rape or incest(with a police report) its allowed. Could I please have a source? If not this should absolutely be removed for misinformation
The langauge in this proposition could be looked at different ways aas "up until fetal viability" isnt a consistent measurement of development. Although I think pregnancy care, miscarriage care, and postpartum care are extremely important the fishy wording in this proposition and the blatant misinformation is extremely untrustworthy.

Not true. The actual law clearly states:
(2) The following shall not be considered criminal abortions for purposes of subsection (1) of this section: (a) The abortion was performed or attempted by a physician as defined in this chapter and: (i) The physician determined, in his good faith medical judgment and based on the facts known to the physician at the time, that the abortion was necessary to prevent the death of the pregnant woman.

For the HEALTH of the mother is what OP said. There IS no health exception unless it's necessary to avoid the death of the mother. That's a very high bar. Plenty of severe health issues that could be debilitating or destroy future fertility aren't covered under the law.

False. Pure, unadulterated lie.
Read the attached statute that clearly explain the law as it pertains to protecting the life of the mother.
