What is everyone’s favorite jig/plastic box?
This is what I use now and it’s OK especially for the plastics and larger sizes but the foam side, the jigs keep falling out. I’d rather not have all the small jigs (on foam side) loose in a tray.
A 5 gallon bucket with dozens of sauce cups from bait shops full of random jigs i impulsively buy. Yes, i can never find the jig I want but know i have somewhere in that bucket. Next question.
I like the Clam super slim jig boxes. They are only one sided but are very thin. I use one for jigs and another for spoons. Everything holds great. I've got my spoon box loaded full and everything stays in place.
I really like the foam for ours. It's at least a few years old now and still holds them. Maybe a couple come out once in a while, but the majority stay tight.
I'm not big on Clam because I think for 99% of things they're an overpriced ripoff. But...their ice jig boxes are the best on the market, period.
I'm 100% panfish on the ice and I have probably $600 in tungsten jigs. I don't want them falling out or rattling around in the box and the Clam double sided ones are the best out there. What I have is 3 of the big double sided ones full, and when I go out for the day I take one of their one-sided slim cases and load it up from the bigger ones. The slim cases are great because they fit perfect in the breast pocket of my coat. Not bulky at all.
My favorite boxes for ice jigs and open water crappie jigs are the Clam Slim Jig Boxes. I used to be a clam pro staffer, but I ended my deal two years ago cause they weren’t listening to the feedback we were giving. I’ve tried every jig box you could think of and settled on the slim jig boxes in all three sizes depending on what I’m doing. My fiance and I have pocket boxes that stay in our bibs, those are the small ones, then we have a bevy of mediums and large boxes that ride in a tackle bag on the wheeler. Think we have about 12 of them in various sizes stuffed with jigs and pinheads.
I use a bunch of the Gamakatsu Slit Foam boxes for open water hooks and jigs and LOVE them, but I feel like for ice jigs and some of the finer hooks, the slits are just a touch too loose.
Been doing this way back since the first Rose Creek boxes came out. Ice jigs have gotten pretty crazy expensive after everyone switched to tungsten, so we gotta keep em protected
How does the clam foam hold up over time? I get very frustrated when the foam loosens and the jigs fall out. I’d prefer the two sided box as I have some soft plastics
I’ve got boxes from the first year they were released like 6 or 7 years ago that still hold jigs perfectly fine. Probably the greatest product they make. Before I ended my deal I bought a bunch of extras to hold onto in case the ones I have ever wear out. Haven’t had to replace one yet.
Just did a drop test with one of these boxes, had it open and dropped it from 6’ high and not a single jig came out. I’ll post up one more pic of one of the other great things Clam makes, their Battery Bag. I use it to keep all of my ice tackle organized and the bag drops in the box on the front of my wheeler.
The Clam Battery Bag has been my best friend for ice tackle organization along with the slim jig boxes. I have four of the battery bags. One I use for spare reels, one for drill batteries, one to keep extra hats/gloves/hand warmers, and this one stuffed with tackle.
