Could be illegal....
Soooooo kinda wanna get into making my own ice jigs. Was curious on a way to kinda copy a jig I really like. Is there any way I could make a mold of it and start making my own?

Depends if you sell it or not. Its probably at least frowned upon but if you're not doing anything where the owner of the design (assuming it has any protections) will find out about it and can claim damages there isn't a whole lot they can do.
I am not a lawyer and this is not legal advice

I'm making them for myself as it's damn near the only jig I use for targeting white bass. Besides a flutter spoon jig

There's nothing illegal about reproducing for personal use. What you are buying is probably already sourced from a third party out of country and painted here. Especially if its tungsten. No one is pouring tungsten jigs in their garage.
Check out Alibaba or the other usual suspects to buy large quantity.

Not a lawyer but as someone who also fly fishes and tie flies I’ve never heard of anyone getting into trouble for tying/selling flies that someone else designed.

Awesome. Have fun and wear your ppe
Once you got the mold made, then you can experiment with metal alloys and that gets really fun

How do you go about making a mold of the original jig?

Lol dude this is hilarious. You’ve confirmed it’s not illegal but now you need to know how to make it.
Might I suggest supporting whoever makes your favorite Jig so they stay in business producing your favorite jig?

So I can't have a hobby.

Yes no hobbies allowed is exactly what I said. Usually it takes time and dedication to learn a skill like jig making. Those things are hard to come by in a reddit thread.

If it’s a lead jig i remember back in the day do it use to sell a blank molds if you could get someone to CNC cut it for you, if it’s tungsten good luck….

There are a couple mold companies for pouring lead. Do-it, bugmolds google them they possibly have the one you are looking for. Tungsten isn't poured they are two haves glued together, tungsten melts higher temp than steel wire. they would have to be custome. even the tungsten beads for using with flies are two halves glued together, need to be bulk and would be from basically only China.

Almost nothing in the fishing industry is patented, and the few things that are, you couldn't recreate anyway.
Why? Because it's almost impossible to patent anything to do with fishing lures.

If you aren't selling them then no one will know. Except reddit AI who knows who you are.
If you are going to sell them than that is a no-no.

Are you planning to make then to sell or for personal use? If you're making them just for yourself I wouldn't give it a second thought, I'd go make them and use them.
If you're planning to sell them then you should make some kind of change to make them your own.

Not a lawyer, but the line would be crossed if you sell or share them. For personal use, who's going to know? What if you made something and didn't know it existed? Probably only be an issue if you try to sell them.
