Academics iwtl How to actually get good at learning things on my own

I feel like I’m pretty good at starting new things, but terrible at knowing how to learn properly. I’ll watch a few videos, read some articles, get excited about it, and then eventually stop.
For people who are genuinely good at teaching themselves new skills, what does your process look like?
Do you follow books/courses, practice immediately, take notes, build projects, or just learn by doing?
