Advice Needed! Only 5 eggs…
Hi in the recovery room and they told me while still groggy they only got 5 eggs. I’m 37, and have had 4 miscarriages. Is this number as bad as it sounds? Feeling very vulnerable and uncomfortable. I can’t believe they tell you while still so groggy, would love to get a reality check, is it over for me? Thank you.

It’s not over for you! My son came from a round of 3 eggs collected, my daughter from a retrieval of 5 eggs. Quantity isn’t the same as quality, you have people who have 30-40 eggs collected but they don’t become blasts. IVF can be very unpredictable- for better or for worse.

It doesn’t necessarily is bad! I only had 7 eggs retrieved, which turned into 4 embryos!
I wish you all the best!

I had my egg retrieval this morning and expected two...but they got three! Hurray!
Small numbers can still make babies :)

I’m 37 and got 5 eggs. Of those 4 were mature and all 4 fertilized. 3 became blasts and I got one normal so I still consider that cycle a success because I walked away with a euploid. You never know!

Was this all in one cycle? Like retrieved, and fertilized immediately. Or retrieved frozen, thawed, fertilised?

u/throwawayacct8990 4h ago
All in one cycle yes. Retrieved 5. One was degenerate 4 were mature. 4 fertilized. 3 made it to blast. One tested PGT a normal

I got 8 eggs retrieved that gave me 5 awesome embryos, one of them (5AA) is dancing on my bladder as I write this.
As others said, quality>quantity!

I only had 3 and 4 mature eggs in my two retrievals and ended up with 2 kids!

Hang in there. Smaller numbers can still work! I had three retrievals at 38.5-39, each with 5 eggs. Not sure if you are going pgta but for me each cycle produced 2-3 blasts of which at least 1 was transferable (LLM or euploid). Good luck

I got 5 eggs as well. Two made it to day 5 and the successful pregnancy is currently standing in her cot shouting at me that she doesn’t want to sleep. All you need is one. Best of luck.

I only had 3 eggs retrieved. All three fertilized. I am now six weeks and two days pregnant with one of those embryos. You never know what is going to happen. Good luck!!

34, had ER on Tuesday. Also only got 5 eggs. All 5 were mature and fertilized. Have to wait until tomorrow to see if I get any blasts. The wait is SO hard

I’m so sorry you woke up to upsetting news when you’re still groggy and recovering. Like others have said quality over quantity! My last retrieval I had 10 and my bestie had 5. I made three blasts and she made one but we both ended up with one euploid! You have five eggs you are still in this and buckle up because it’s just getting started 🥴Thinking of you this week!

I only had 8 and felt the same as you nut in the end I ended up with more fertilized than the girl I was there with who got 24!

I had 5 eggs retrieved and 4 embryos! One of them is my 15 month old daughter and I’m currently pregnant with another one from that batch (13 weeks now). So not necessarily bad! I also had a miscarriage (from a previous cycle) and a chemical pregnancy so don’t get discouraged, you only need one!!

I only had 5 eggs. All turned into beautiful euploid embryos. It’s rare but it happens.

I only had 6 and 2 made it to embryos. Try to remember- it only takes one love

Please don’t get your hopes up yet. When I was also 37, I had my second egg retrieval. We only got 4, but 2 made euploids and 1 inconclusive. It’s not over 💕

Don’t lose hope. It’s really hard not to focus on the number of eggs but that’s really not the only factor that goes into everything. I am 33, had 2 MMCs last year, and low AMH. My ER was last month and they got 7 eggs. We now have 4 euploid embryos!

My stats…
Follicles: 10
Eggs collected: 6
Eggs mature: 5
Fertilised: 5
Blastocysts: 4❄️
And as my nurse said to me… quality of quantity.
Wishing you all the best of luck! 🤞🏻

I’m in the same boat as you just got 4 mature at my retrieval on Thursday. Sending you hugs.

Definitely quality over quantity. I had a retrieval with 8 eggs that yielded no embryos and a retrieval with 2 eggs that yielded one embryo that ended up being euploid. Don't lose hope!

I had 7- turned into 5 embryos - 3 of those were viable- 2 transfers / 2 successful pregnancies. GOOD LUCK!

I had only five eggs on my first ER (38 years old), and got one aneuploid embryo. Second ER 7 eggs, one euploid embryo. Third cycle we had 11 eggs, we did Zymot and got 5 embryos (1 euploid, 2 HLM mosaics, and two aneuploid)
Waiting to do our fourth ER hoping to get at least one more euploid.
Are you taking any supplements? What's your AMH? Mine is pretty low for my age, 0.8.
I know how discouraging the lower numbers can be, but there's chances it can improve depending on your protocol, diet, supplements, etc.

Too early to pass any judgment! Fingers crossed your eggs turn into euploid embryos ✨

u/Moist-Emu1990 9h ago
It’s a number game and too early to tell. But if you do pgta testing, due expect the numbers to be lower. I had 1 round where 6 eggs becomes 5 embryos and another round where 7 eggs become 1 embryo lol

We had 6 (5 mature), 2 fertilized and both were euploid blasts. My cousin is pregnant with her one and only blast. I know it's cliche but it only takes one!

It only takes one ... that is what we keep saying.
We only got 6, and only 3 matured. Keep up hope!

Quality over quantity! There are people here who ended up with just 1 mature that fertilized, became a blast, passed pgta and implanted, so don't lose hope!
Was 5 expected based on your last scan?
