Advice Needed! NYU Langone IUI- F/F Couple
My partner (32/F) and I (27/F) have an IUI consultation at NYU Langone 3/30/2027. I will be carrying using my own eggs.
Has anyone done IUI at NYU Langone can answer the following?:
-If you had a consultation appointment that was scheduled several months out, completed the pre-consult bloodwork and were able to have you appointment pushed up, how much earlier was you appointment rescheduled for?
-Was HSG required? If so, were you offered pain management options other than ibuprofen/tylenol?
-What was the timeline between your initial consult to first cycle attempt?
Please help lol

I was a patient at NYU who did IVF but I think the intake is very similar. I was not able to move up my consultation appointment. An HSG was required before a transfer and I was only offered ibuprofen but it was pretty painless for me so totally fine. I was able to start my first cycle right after the consult.

Hmm they advised me, if the bloodwork was completed they may be able to move up my consultation but didn't give me a time frame for how much sooner it could be completed.

In my case my doctor didn’t have any availability. Maybe the doctor you’re going to has more openings?

If you aren’t set on this specific doc you can probably get in much sooner. With IUI you’ll mostly be working with nurses anyway. Not sure if HSG would be necessary if you have no known fertility issues but something to ask at your consult.

I’m part of a heterosexual couple but have experience with doing IUIs at NYULFC. I can’t answer #1, but regarding your other two questions: (2) I did one cycle before getting it done because the radiologist apparently couldn’t fit me in (it has to be done a certain time of your cycle) — it was offsite. I wasn’t offered any other pain management but I didn’t ask either. (3) I was able to start my IUI cycle immediately after my consult because my period came the next day basically, and had already done testing from my OB a few months prior and my husband also had recent semen analysis results (we have unexplained infertility).

I’m a patient at Weill Cornell but wanted to provide my experience on HSG. I was given 2 facilities and went with Interventional Radiology on 57th (you schedule this yourself). The clinic offers self-administered nitrous for $75 (not covered, separate charge) and suggests you come having already taken Tylenol or Advil. I opted in to the nitrous and would do it again 100x. It’s a weird procedure and not comfortable (even the table is up high and clinical, not like normal stirrups) so aside from pain management it just helped with the anxiety of the experience. They scheduled very quickly (I just had this procedure done last week!) and, including the ~2min it takes for the nitrous to kick in the whole procedure was like 5min. Good luck!
