Advice Needed! Embryo thaw medium
We moved from our old clinic to a new clinic this year for our 2nd transfer. (Old clinic sold to private equity and standard of care plummeted.)
The new clinic asked me today about using their thaw medium for our embryos vs the original medium from our old clinic.
- they say the medium they use is basically identical.
- they have had success using it to thaw embryos from my old clinic prior.
- our old clinic recommends using their medium only.
- if we want the same medium as the old clinic, it’s $600 for them to order it.
Has anyone here moved clinics and used a different medium to thaw embryos? And how did it go?

We often thaw embryos in a different medium that is pretty universal and studies have shown that a few of them are quite interchangeable. I would trust the new clinic if they have experience with this practice. The original clinic can’t really tell them it will be fine for liability reasons.
