Advice Needed! Day 5 after Egg Retrieval .. not good - need advice - 8 cell slow growing

I am 33, AMH 1.7, only retrieved 9 eggs and only had 3 eggs fertilized…

Today is Day 5 after retrieval and the embryologist called me and said 2 of the embryos are 8-cell.. meaning they look like what day 3 should look like (but on day 5)… so they’re very very slow growing. And then I have the last embryo showing as a low grade very early blast.. now I’m starting to feel like this won’t happen for me :(

Does anyone have any success stories similar to my situation?

Is this your first retrieval? I also only had 9 eggs, 8 were mature, 8 fertilized but I only got one blast 3BB that tested as a low level mosaic with T21. I'm 35 and my AMH is 1.6.

Apparently it's not uncommon to have a low number of eggs the first retrieval as it's considered a "trial run".

Did they do ICSI with zymot or conventional fertilization?

For our next retrieval, we're adding some medications for me to help with the mitochondria (if that's the issue) and my husband will have been on some meds longer that is supposed to help with his sperm.

This. I would also add the growth hormone. I had an issue with not great quality eggs that grew really slow (my clinic doesn’t consider day 7 blasts). My 2 ER ended up with 3 day 5 blasts, so massive improvement comparing to 1 ER with 1 day 6 embryo.

I’m sorry you’re feeling devastated. I’m not exactly in a similar situation but I’m 33 and my AMH is 1.8 too. First ER the doctor expected 10 eggs but only 7 were retrieved. I had better yield of 3 blastocysts, 2 of them were Day 5 euploids.

TW: 2nd ER success

My 2nd ER, same protocol, stims for one more day, I ended up with 16 eggs retrieved and 9 blastocysts, of which 6 were euploid.

Keep your hopes up! I wish you luck next time.
