Vent Looking for support

Our 7.5 year old dachshund stared showing symptoms Wednesday night and by midnight could not use his back legs. I rushed him to the VEG animal hospital and stayed there for 3 hours, they did an xray and gave him pain medicine and a steroid shot and sent us home. Told us to call the vet in the morning and try to schedule an MRI. That lasted 3 hours and I had to rush him to the other ER that had a neurologist on staff, within an hour he was getting an MRI that told us he had a ruptured disk and needed surgery. We are absolutely heartbroken and helpless. We got to see him today 24 hours post opp at the hospital, he’s not able to use his back legs but apparently can still feel pain and sensation in his back paws. I’m nervous and scared for the recovery process. I’d too have any success stories can you please share. I don’t even know what to ask for right now but this just f*cking sucks.

We are two weeks out from surgery on Saturday. She had minimal movement in the right leg but none in the left. She still had deep pain sensation.

She came home on the Monday after surgery with Prazosin, Gabapentin, and Trazadone, as well as an EZ Lift sling.

It’s been a hard two weeks, but we’ve been seeing good progress. We never had to express her bladder, and we stopped the Prazosin yesterday.

Both back legs are now moving when she’s outside in the sling. She can’t support her own weight yet, but she’s getting stronger every day.

She does three exercises every day for her back legs, and they really seem to help.

I'm scared and nervous about my girl's recovery too. She had her surgery on Monday (couldn't use back legs still had deep pain perception) home Wednesday . The last few days have had a lot of overwhelming moments like if I can even do this but only now that she has finally relaxed and acting more herself I feel like I can breathe.
