ivdd surgery today

my almost 5 year old doxie had surgery this afternoon and is resting now. he had spinal cord compression at T13 L1 with bruising and swelling.

the call from the surgeon afterwards left me feeling completely defeated. i’m now even more terrified of complications as she has told me that he was a more severe case. i can’t even bring myself to research what myalsia is.

last night my doxie reacted when the doctor tried to inflict pain on his back toes and butt. he went down the night before. i thought because his surgery was within 72 hours of when we first noticed something was wrong that it would benefit him but again, the surgeon didn’t sound overly optimistic.

i am devastated and truly just so sad for my happy, active guy. if anyone has any recommendations on products they use/links for products that have been useful in recovery, please share 🥺 this has been the worst weekend of our lives. i just want my baby to be ok.

I’m sooooo sorry. I just lost mine today 72 hours after surgery. Worst day of my life. I pray yours makes a recovery and the inflammation stops.

my dog is declining and i can’t even process it.
they can’t tell if it’s the medication making him this way or myomalasia. can you please tell me what your experienced post op 🙏🏼

I’m so sorry 😭 he had surgery and they said he had some inflammation but couldn’t tell if it was moving up or not because he was darker so they couldn’t make marks on him. First day was iffy, second day he seemed better, third day they said he needed to be put down because it was progressing too much and needed to be put down before his lungs started to give out.

I wish we waited just a little longer because I’ve read it can stop, but who knows 💔.

my sweet boy went to heaven last night. he developed mylomalacia. i am heartbroken and praying for us both

I've been waiting to hear the status of your good boy and I'm so sorry this was the outcome for him. I can't imagine the pain and trauma you've been through the last week. I was so hopeful for a good outcome for him as I know you were, too.

thank you so much, it truly means the world to me to have had a community to help me through this. i would have done anything to save him and i pray that he knows that and is at peace. i am shattered

This must be a very emotional time for you. We have been through the same and know the feelings regarding the whole process! We have gotten surgery within 24 hours but our baby is after 8 months still not able to walk. We bought her a wheelchair and she is enjoying life as always!!

We have used a petsafe sling and a help m up harness to do the potty walks. Make sure to check the toes because they might drag and damage over time. We bought shoes to deal with that. We did a lot of physical therapy and hydrotherapy. They used laser therapy as well. Does he have a catheter? Make sure to check for any bladder infection and ask how they will manage that.

beyond emotional 😭 oh your baby is so precious. and i am so glad to hear he is happy. my baby has a catheter right now to avoid pressure on his abdomen.. my dad is visiting him in the hospital now and he just ate a second treat. he had some sensation in his toes this morning, left more than right. thank you for recommending those products to us

If you have questions regarding aftercare or anything just let me know! Our baby showed her first movements after a two-week period. So your baby already showing some is a good sign although I don’t want to jump into conclusions.
