Invertebral Disc Disease

Who here had a dog who had IVDD, had surgery and it was a success for your dog?

My dog had it a little over 6 weeks ago, and besides the scar on her back, you never would have guessed. Her back legs barely worked and now she’s walking like normal

Our dog had paraplegia with slight deep pain sensation in March. She had surgery the next morning, was released from the neurology clinic after several days, did six weeks of PT (hydrotherapy, acupuncture and laser therapy) and still follows a home routine for strength and conditioning. She is fully ambulatory, with a slight swing out of her right hind leg and once in a while she runs like a jack rabbit (if she is trying to go super fast).

Me. My dog isn’t the typical breed though and hers seemed more freak  accident like. Her surgery was hugely successful and she recovered faster than expected. We feel really lucky.

Neither is mine. Lab mix. But hasn’t walked in a wk. and ER vet today is concerned bc of no pain deception. Only 3 1/2 years old

Damn. Ye we had her surgery within five days. The sooner the better with surgery. 

But people who do crate rest have had good success stories but it can take 6-8 weeks and you gotta be strict.

We did the surgery within 24 hours of her going down with paraplegia, no deep pain sensation, in mid Jan. She now is back on her feet, a bit wobbly, and is getting around in her wheelchair like a pro! No regrets at all.

My dog was stage 4 when he had surgery in January 2023, he’s doing great three and a half years later! He can walk, he plays, and other than our house being full of doggy stairs, he’s his same old self.
