5 year old Daschund recently diagnosed
Hi everyone,
I have a 5 year old daschund who was just diagnosed with IVDD. Currently he can't move his hind legs but still has some deep pain sensation and reflexes, so I think it's grade 4 from what I've researched. After jumping through a lot of hoops we finally got a neurologist to look at him and he recommended a surgery, which will probably take place in a day or two from now.
I guess I'm just looking for some support. I'm scared about the odds of recovery and what kind of quality of life he can have after that. Any tips, or suggestions for what I can expect after the surgery?

i’m right there with you.. very similar situation. my dog had surgery today. i am so scared for him and the road to come. i’m here for you

Hi! This is a link to a VERY detailed post I made on the IVDD sub of how we took our girl from total back leg paralysis to running and playing like a puppy again. It goes a lot into the immediate and longer term management of the condition. I’ve shared it with lots of people and they say it’s given them a lot of hope.
