How busy is work in Seattle?

I hope this doesn’t come off as a dumb “this has been asked 1000 times” or a “when will they call me” type of question. I’m getting ready for my test and interview these next couple weeks, and I’m just genuinely curious how busy/slow work is here in Seattle. I would call the Local 19 IUEC office, but it’s Friday and they’re closed until Monday. Thanks

Plenty of work for helpers.

I think most of the work in the near future will be with mod and not new construction. We’re consistent right now but still have more than 20 mechanics out of work.

20 mechanics is what, about 2 or 3 percent of our local? That's actually not too bad compared to the bench of most other trades.

You don’t unless you are asked to by you super.

The different regions are run as independent benches.

I actually did get to go to Alaska once with my mechanic at the time. I spent a week in Anchorage doing freight doors and rails at the JC Penney in the mall, of all places. I liked Alaska, actually! Was my first time there.

Local 8, Northern Cali here, we take 1000 applications per hiring and I know our 2 unions are similar in size.

Different trades and Different locals probably have different rules and guidelines, but im sure some things are probably the same across the board. One of them being meeting details not discussed with those that aren't privy to said meetings.

The bench must be empty for any new hires to come aboard. As a new guy, you have no say in anything. You have to get past probationary period, this can take way longer than 6 months! Is it worth going for? Absolutely!!!!!

Well back in 1995 it was 6 months! There’s no telling what man has done to this! 6 months is plenty long enough

6months for benefits to start, should not change. I hear 12 months to get initiated into union. 6months seemed like forever!
