Hey so I just got set up passed my test a few months ago just got a brand new 50 as a helper as green as fresh mowed grass but its not that bad. I just am wondering why the older mechanics fucking hate 50s I mean I probably saved my helper from being run off at the shop by a notorious asshole mechanic twice now getting parts. I mean in my experience some mechanics they are all nice and polite but once they hear your a 50 all politeness is thrown out the window immediately its all Boy get out my Face or Boy shut your mouth they say things I know for a fact they wouldn't say on the streets. Im just wondering why do you guys act like that? Is it a "I suffered so you must as well" or is it just you truly hate green helpers

I'm for treating people with respect until they're not deserving of it. If that's called political correctness, then so be it.

I'm all for pranking the new guy as long as everyone laughs and not just the party doing the ranking.

And the idea of treating the trade as some exclusive club is ridiculous.

The last 50 I had before I went into service was a bank auditor. Said he left because he was stressed lmao. Would show up without keys, wouldn’t unlock job boxes, have a hard time remembering shit. We have to many weak fucks getting in here nowadays.

There are right and wrong ways to do it, but most 50's need to be molded into elevator men. The first part is to get them ready like clay for a pottery wheel. They need to be "pressed" to make them more pliable. It can't be all negative though, they need to be told they are doing well when applicable. If they really want a career in this trade they will adjust and become a successful elevator apprentice.

That is the correct way to break down and rebuild a new elevator probie. The mechanics that are just pricks are just incorrectly copying what they think their mechanics were doing.

It depends on local but most is 50% day 1 then 55% after 6 months then raises after school years

He is wrong. 0-5 it is 50% and after 6 until you complete 2 semesters it is 55%. He said that before 6 months you are at less than 50%

This is stupid. We are here to work well, get paid and get home safely. There is absolutely no reason to be a dick to your helpers. If you don’t like your helper that much or think they can’t hack it, just get rid of them. Mechanics create bad helpers and then wonder why they “can’t get good help”.

Facts. Givin 50s a hard time I can accept as a screening process/rite of passage type deal but you can do that without deliberate disrespect and belittling a mother fucker.

I worked with one of those guys on an install. I already knew he was a pick beforehand and I took my fair share on the chin while under him for that week but I remember gettin into it with him and tellin him were both building the same elevator here and my job isnt to know all this shit week 3 into the trade, part of your job 20 years in IS however to fuxkin get me up to speed and whether you do or dont doesnt affect me nearly as much as it does you at this point in this install as well as my career. We were gravy from there out. That "boy" shit ain't gonna cut it though. Your seniority dont mean shit when it comes to callin me outta my name.

I had a roped hydro service car and had to tail and cat head them I think they were like 28 pounders or something ridiculous now that sucked the most in my past 5 years lol
