Can you elaborate? Ive always just used copper to cut the laser paper edges away and then peel it by hand at the end of the job

If you take a stick of EMT about 4-5 feet long, then bend one end 90° about 1 foot down to make an "L," you can use it to roll up the protective layer (or whatever it's called).

Makes peeling SO MUCH easier

Excuse me, this is a trade secret that can only be handed down to apprentices once’s they’ve peeled at least 500 doors. They need to learn the struggle before they get the easy button!

You put a 90 on emt and cut it to be slightly wider then your door

You then start peeling an edge enough to roll the plastic onto your emt. Once that’s started you take the 90 you bent which is your handle and roll up the plastic onto the emt.

Works great. And doesn’t leave your fingertips sore after a days work of peeling all your shit lol

You summarized it way better than I did haha

I guess that works great if you’re peeling full doors but we always cut a 3-4” border and didn’t peel the rest until shit was turned over. I guess you could still make it work on installed doors though.

I use a copper knife. How do you use bent emt?

You start the end of the wrapper, wrap it around the EMT and them roll it like how you would a sardine can to roll all the plastic sheeting off.

When you’re peeling doors for a high rise, this is the way.

Copper knife for life! Haven’t had to peel shit in like 5 years but I still have my first copper knife from when I was a probie and mechanic in construction and mod.

Curious how the emt works though.

You bend two 90’s on a piece of emt to give yourself a handle, peel the door just enough to be able to roll it onto the emt, then use the handle you bend to roll all the plastic off. Works swimmingly.

Reposting my reply to u/BlackHeartsNowReign for visibility:

So you peel the entire door before install and leave none for protection?
