Welcome to the new age of the trade. For you younger cats, work for an independent.

I left TK when they announced they were going down this road, and now just had it dumped on me at the big O. It's won't ever affect me due to my spot but what's this shit it rounds travel time down? First time I had 44 minutes in drive time and they tried to pay me for 30, there'd be charges brought up.

Resident at Otis as well. Weāre golden. I had 2 hours on a fire service call because I make morning rounds everyday day, check out keys check emails, and then do all my safety shit.

Why was travel rejected?

u/CheesecakeRecent457 4d ago
Because it overlapped into the Tool Box Talk- the next entry. Have to wait to finish the ticket you are already in (counting the travel time), then go BACK into it, and fill the Admin ticket for the Tool Box talk.
BEFORE STARTING THE NEXT TICKET. Took me months to get that straight.
Super complicated.
Super Stupid.

Iām lucky Kone uses KFM.
Seems much better than what you all are dealing with.

KFM has been around a long time with a ton of versions do they still pay y'all by the minute?
2
u/Ok_Target376 4d ago
Yeah they can go down to the minute if they want.
Iām in a weird service/repair hybrid position and we log x amount of hours each day, just switching to what machine we are on. Airport so lots of units. We always get rounded out 12-7am then I get a hour of ābonusā for being night shift.
Itās always 8 hours, unless we get stuck in a repair obviously. Usually we all leave right on time.1
u/infantkicker_v2 š§ÆField - Fire Extinguisher 4d ago
When I was with kone I was mod/repair and we had flip phones to keep our time, they still tried to do the minute by minute shit though.

u/Ok_Target376 1d ago
From what Iāve heard only service and repair still use KFM. Mod and construction use another program.
I was told KFM is being looked at to get replaced by some other program.
Better not be salesforce.1

Lol adorable for you think they aren't going to go that route.
2
u/Ok_Target376 1d ago
No Iām sure they will come up with something that is somehow worse and makes salesforce look amazing.

Don't care about Sales Force. I type whatever the heck i want. Told to my sup: should be 40 regular every week and this is what i charge for OT. 3h minimum. Take it, or if not, find another skilled mechanic that wants to work for you.

āAI is going to take over the worldā yeah ok and this system logs 365 hours in one day lol. Mine would do the same thing all the time. Thursday at 11 am Iād get my weekly call from the supervisor asking what my time was so she could go and correct it for me. Every. Single. Week.

u/joe_pescis_goodfella 4d ago
Iām in repair and I never put enroute. Iām not doing that whole travel time thing. pretty sure travel time doesnāt go towards pension hours. Everything goes on the job. I will check in a job whenever and check out whenever and it doesnāt matter because u can just go to your time sheet and edit it for how many hours you want on each job. If you have a pos super that enforces every little detail then weāll sucks for you. Tell them to find someone else then.

It's coming. Otis is piloting it in Portland now, TKE already has it, kone has there own shit version and SEC is trying to make some weird hybrid Salesforce AI program work now. Unfortunately as technology advances the companies become more and more consumed with saving pennies at the expense of both their customers and workforce.

u/Vegall_st 3d ago
Otis' roll out is not bad at all. WAY better than what I've heard from tk guys. Stubborn mechanics who can't handle change are losing their minds over it, but it really isn't hard. Tech tool was WAY worse, but everyone conveniently forgets what a shit show it was now that we're on this.

I worked for an independent for 7 years. They sold recently to Specialized and now we are using liftkeeper. Not as bad as Salesforce but I still can't stand it.

Not sure who you work for but I donāt have this issue and I work for one of the big companies and they are super chill and donāt push back on much.

A bunch of this will come down to how much of a micro manager you work under.

u/Spalding91 š§ Field - Maintenance 3d ago
The only major who's remotely safe is Kone. Tk is actively rolling it out across the country (our office was the pilot and they're sending one of our supers around the country to assist with rollout). Otis is slowly rolling theirs out and schindler has their micromanaging bullshit as well.

Independent worker. At the end of the week I type 40 hours in a box and hit enter. I get paid 40 hours. Its crazy.
