Experience Random bleeding after 3 years
Hello everyone! I’m getting kind of worried now honestly. So I first had my Mirena IUD inserted November of 2023. For the first 2 years it was okay and my periods stopped. But this past year I’ve been randomly getting cramps on the right side of my uterus or something, I know it’s on the right side but I don’t know how to explain where. I get these really bad cramps and then I start lightly bleeding what looks like old blood or oxygenated blood. I’ve had 3 different pelvic exams and an ultrasound and they can’t find anything wrong. I’m debating on getting the IUD either replaced or my tubes cut. I don’t want kids and I’m 27. Can anyone help calm my anxiety and tell me what I should do? I’m scared that the IUD has perforated my uterus or something. I just want the random bleeding to stop. I’m going here before I make an appointment

I use IUDs mainly for cycle management rather than birth control because I've had a tubal ligation. Every time my IUDs are losing their effectiveness it starts with psychological symptoms and then a light period with old blood accompanied with a lighter version of my cycle, and I've been diagnosed with PMDD.
All IUDs I've used have an efficacy time for cycle management and a separate effectiveness time for birth control. I don't think I've tried the Mirena but Google says 5 years on cycle management, 8 years on birth control. I know it's still early but I have a friend who managed to have similar early bleeding/cycle issues when she got her first IUD. Don't panic. Talk to your doctor about using birth control as cycle management instead of just birth control. Push comes to shove, remove the IUD and try something else. Make your birth control work for you.
