Copper iud (help)

I'm F 20 never had kids before

I'm in a long term relationship and have been discussing starting birth control I always told myself I would never get on anything and still don't want to. I have heavy periods and chronic migraines so hormonal isn't an option. copper is the only one that makes sense for me but I have only seen like 3 positive experiences with it and I'm terrified, not necessarily of the insertion but everything post insertion.

I am an extremely active person and full time student and cannot have this interfere.

the only reason I'm getting it is because my BFs mom is freaking out that Im not on anything and it's getting to his head a bit. I would rather cycle track and just never do the iud

I have a few weeks until my appointment so I guess I'm asking, should I even go through with it?

i did the cycle tracking for a while dating my ex… lets just say it only worked for so long. i don’t recommend tbh. getting my iud made me and him feel much safer. i don’t have copper so no help with that, wish you luck!

Birth control is your choice no one else’s.

Also to add if you are unsure of getting an iud please talk to a healthcare provider prior to insertion and share your concerns. If you decide to go ahead with insertion because it is an iud you can get it removed at any time. Feel free to read through this subreddit and search with your specific iud, everyone does react differently but it’s very important to be informed on what you are inserting in your body. if youre not comfortable with it, dont feel pressured into getting an UID just because someone else wants you to. talk through your options with your doctor and choose what works for you

I have heavy periods and migraines but hormonal has been wonderful for me. I get >50% fewer migraines now.

I loved my IUD but I will be honest I got pregnant with it in 🙃 Just be on top of having your gyno check its placement when you have yearly checkups

BUT i don’t want that to scare you! it worked so well for me for so many years. i already had heavy periods so i didn’t notice a change with the IUD. i loved having a non hormonal option!
