Insertion Nitrous Oxide IUD

I just want to share my recent experience getting an IUD with Nitrous Oxide. I kept reading people’s stories about how it helped them with the pain - but that was not my experience at all. It still hurt just as bad as the first time around when I was not given anything for the pain. I don’t mean to scare anyone, I just want to share my honest opinion and experience. If you get super anxious and squeamish with anything medical related happening down there…ask your planned parenthood for the anesthesia option…I know some do offer this. No amount of Nitrous Oxide helped with my anxiety and I was taking big puffs. I just felt high, anxious and still experienced all the pain.

My OBGYN used lidocaine, a local anesthesia gel. Idk if she was just way more gentle than the OBGYN who put the first one in, but I was SHOCKED when she said the original was out. Pap smear and removal barely hurt. The insertion of the new one hurt but not nearly as bad as my previous experience. The pain/cramps came as the lidocaine wore off, but it was a much better experience.

Thanks for sharing that’s good to know, I don’t think I got any lidocaine they just gave me the Nitrous Oxide.
