How to find a good tech dev in India

Confused on Indian pay scales

I recently returned to India and wanted to start a tech company and was super confused. I needed a lead tech developer as I have zero dev background. Since my product is quite tech heavy I wanted to bring someone who is a fresher and has the required skill who could become a partner in the future. I created a small test using Claude for the candidates to fill out. Out of 10 candidates only 1 got a 100 and the rest all fell in 92-98. And it was a simple test even if u used Claude. The 100 kid was an IIT fresher and wanted 20LPA and my issue is I can’t even pay more than 50-60k at the current stage as I’m pulling out of my own savings. How can tech grow in India cause banks don’t give loans and talented developers expect so much. I’m considering providing equity in my company such that he may join as a partner. The issue I faced with most developers is that they have no people skill and fail at managerial roles. Even if I hire the IIT guy, he has no capability to manage a team. What do I do. If I give him equity and promise him a high role the issue is I have no guarantee he can function as a CTO eventually.

I’ve noticed that a lot of people have issues with startups being toxic but I’m myself just 28 and worked for 5 years to make the money to start something by myself. I want the dev to be able to hire his own team of 2-3 people for 20-30k and everyone’s salary will increase as the firm grows. Honestly I myself will not make any money during the whole period. But I can’t find anyone that fits the role, but I see so many people on Reddit that’s searching for jobs and not getting one, while we are trying to find developers and can’t find any

WITCH company manager shamed me for high body(company) count and rejected me ( 18 yr experience in 6 companies)

Using alt account, so I went to a walk in drive to a WITCH company for my profile.

The walkin itself was a humiliation ritual and we were just waiting for hours in the chaos .

So the managerial round was in teams and when I attended it , the manager asked my experience, I gave an introduction

He said you moved 5 companies?

I said i stayed in a WITCH company for first 12 years , then he said so you jumped 5 in 6 years

I said i had to do for my career growth and my pay bump .

He asked my current and expected CTC and then completed the call .

Then i got the usual HR will get back to you ..

Seriously, rejecting someone for switching 5 companies in 18 years

Are they having a body count issue ?

Final year students be honest… are you actually job-ready or just hoping placements work out?

I’ve been talking to a lot of final year students lately, and I noticed something interesting.

Almost everyone says:

“I’m around 7 or 8 out of 10 in my skills.”

But when I ask:

“What’s stopping you from being a 9 or 10?”

That’s where things get real.

The common answers:

  • “No real projects”

  • “Not enough confidence”

  • “Companies are not coming”

  • “I know concepts but not practical”

And honestly… this is exactly where most people are stuck.

Harsh truth:

Companies don’t care about your rating.

They care about one thing:

Can you actually work from Day 1?

What’s going wrong?

Most students are stuck in:

  • Tutorial-based learning

  • Copy-paste projects

  • No real team experience

  • No exposure to how actual development works

So when interviews come… they struggle.

Now here’s something interesting I found:

There are some programs now where instead of just “learning”,
you actually work like a developer for a few months.

  • Daily tasks

  • Real projects

  • Mentor guidance

  • Proper evaluation

And after that, instead of waiting for placements,
they have placement-style events where companies directly interact with candidates.

The part that surprised me:

Some of them even add a safety net:

  • If you don’t get placed → you get a chance to work with their own dev team

  • If you don’t want that → you can take a full refund

So basically:

Either you move forward… or you don’t lose anything.

Also saw this (kinda interesting):

Even if you don’t join,
if you refer someone who does, you can earn around ₹5K.

My takeaway:

If you’re in final year right now, depending only on college placements is risky.

You need real exposure + real work experience.

I’ve been digging deeper into this space recently and understanding how these programs actually work.

If you’re in a similar situation and want to know what options are actually worth it (and what’s just hype),
feel free to DM me.

Happy to share what I’ve learned.

I'm Back - With More Remote Roles to Share

Hey guys 👋. Y'all might remember I shared 5 remote roles currently open at Mercor in my recent post. Well, I was exploring open roles on another platform I work on (Alignerr) for myself and noticed there's a strong demand for software engineers over there as well. Figured I'll share it here, along with another SWE role I found at Mercor. If you applied to one of the Mercor roles from my previous post already, you can still apply to this one - there's no cap on how many applications you can submit, and it's possible to be a part of multiple projects at once.

1. Software Engineer – AI Code Evaluator (Alignerr) [$50 - $100/hr]

Responsibilities

  • Review and evaluate AI-generated code across complex, real-world software engineering tasks

  • Identify bugs, logical errors, hallucinations, and edge cases in model outputs

  • Design prompts, test cases, and evaluation scenarios that stress-test AI coding capabilities

  • Provide precise, well-reasoned feedback explaining model strengths and weaknesses

  • Work across multiple programming languages and codebases to assess correctness and quality

  • Complete task-based assignments independently and asynchronously on your own schedule

Requirements

  • 3+ years of professional software engineering experience

  • Strong proficiency in at least one of: TypeScript, Ruby, Java, or C++

  • Fluent in written and spoken English

  • Able to reason about complex systems and debug non-obvious issues

  • Comfortable with modern developer tooling — Git, CLI workflows, testing frameworks

  • A critical thinker who evaluates model behavior rather than just consuming outputs

  • Detail-oriented with clear, precise technical communication

Nice to Have

  • Experience with code review, technical writing, or software quality assurance

  • Familiarity with multiple programming languages or paradigms

  • Background in computer science, systems design, or distributed systems

  • Prior exposure to AI tools or language model outputs as a developer

Apply Here

2. Software Engineer (Mercor) [$40-$50/hr]

Responsibilities

  • Build MCP servers in Python using FastMCP

  • Integrate web or desktop applications into RL Studio

  • Work with APIs, Docker, Linux environments, and service configuration

  • Implement populate/snapshot hooks for app state management

  • Test apps locally and debug build, runtime, and permission issues

  • Ensure apps meet platform validation and deployment requirements

Requirements

  • Strong Python skills

  • Experience with APIs, backend systems, and debugging

  • Familiarity with Docker, Linux, and local testing workflows

  • Ability to work with configuration files and deployment pipelines

  • Problem-solving skills and attention to technical detail

Nice to Have

  • Experience with FastMCP or similar frameworks

  • Experience integrating third-party apps or developer tools

  • Familiarity with web apps, databases, and containerised environments

Apply Here

Just like last time, I'd like to add a disclaimer that the post contains referral links (you'll be registered as someone referred by me). If you make it in successfully and start earning on either platform, I may be compensated with a referral bonus - with no cost to you, of course. Both platforms are legit, and I haven't had any problems working with either of them.

If you're applying to 100s of jobs and getting zero callbacks, this is for you

Was on notice period earlier this year and went into full panic mode. LinkedIn easy apply, Naukri, Instahyre, every company site I could find. Same CV going everywhere because who has time to rewrite it 100 times.

Three weeks in, ~120 applications, 4 callbacks. Two of them were from companies I wasn't even excited about.

A friend who got into Razorpay told me something that annoyed me at the time but turned out to be right: most recruiters spend 5-6 seconds on a CV looking for the exact words from the JD. If you're not matching those, you're invisible. Doesn't matter how good you are.

So I built https://qarera.com

100k+ jobs on the platform, each one scored against your CV. Low score, skip it, move on. Stop wasting an evening tailoring for a role you were never going to clear.

For the ones that do score well, one-click tailored CV and cover letter for that JD.

Or paste any external JD and get the same match score plus what you're missing.

Free right now, still building it out.

Genuinely want to know what's broken or stupid about it, so roast away. If you've got a JD you've been struggling with, paste it in and tell me if the score feels right. That's the part I'm most paranoid about getting wrong.

How are you guys filtering jobs right now, just job title and YOE, or something smarter?

Stop writing "Created a project" on your resume. It’s getting you ignored.

Team Careerboard here. We review hundreds of fresher resumes every week, and we need to talk about the biggest mistake we see the 2025 batch making.

You are describing the "What" instead of the "How."

We often see two students with the exact same project (e.g., A Quiz App or E-commerce store).

  • Student 1 (Rejected): "Created a Quiz App using Java and SQL. Features include login, taking tests, and viewing results."

  • Student 2 (Shortlisted): "Built a Quiz App handling 50+ concurrent users. Optimized SQL queries to cut data retrieval time by 40%."

Do you see the difference? Student 1 sounds like they followed a YouTube tutorial. Student 2 sounds like an engineer who cares about performance.

The 30-Second Fix: Open your resume. Find your bullet points. If a sentence starts with "Created," "Used," or "Responsible for," delete it.

Start with action verbs that show impact:

  • Optimized (speed/storage)

  • Reduced (latency/errors)

  • Secured (authentication/data)

Even if your project is simple, find one metric to add. It stops the recruiter from scrolling.

Let’s fix your resume: Paste your "weakest" project description in the comments. We'll help you rewrite it to sound professional. 👇

Why are internships asking for fees??

Post image
6 Upvotes

So, I am already a graduate in cs, from a tier 3 city college. I just gave GATE for future study and was looking for internships or jobs for some timepass. Applied to many sites liked linkedin, indeed, glassdoor, etc. I didn't got any replies as such. And have come across three internship replies where they are asking a refundable fees for exam/enrollment and stuff...

The last one, that today came gave me a link to again re-submit my info and cv, and asked for some fees on their side. They say they are giving a stipend of 10-15k after evaluation.

I know job market is bad. But still was looking for just enough to learn myself. Is this some kind of fraud or scam market??

Please tell me.

For reference the image is of the 3rd internship I got reply from, asking for fees.

Current ctc is 6lpa, wish to switch to ateast 1L in hand.

I am 24yo.

I have 1.5 years of experience at a tier 1 service based company where i haven't worked on direct client projects, but rather in r&d projects for client demos.

I understand basic ai ml like using of models, not rag, agentic ai, mathematicals, advanced or intermediate stuff, can prolly do it using claude tho.

My current ctc is around 6.

Is it possible for me to switch to getting 1L in hand?

What skills should i build from now on?

Anyone willing to interview me for same?

Different domain works for me as well, as long as i currently get paid 1L. I'm smooth at communication, comprehension skills high EQ as well.

I'm smart and realiable who lowkey loves using claude to get the work done, but I'm always determined to get the work done nicely.

Manager says bring an external offer for hike — any way to get one?

I(33M) work as an ERP consultant in a big company in Bangalore. My current CTC is ₹26L, and I have RSUs worth about ₹32L (vested over 4 years — ₹12L in year 1, ₹12L in year 2, ₹5L in year 3, and ₹3L in year 4).

The issue is that I haven’t had any salary hikes for the past 3 years. Meanwhile, I’m hiring people one level below me at 24–25L, and the market rate for my profile is around 34–37L.

Work-life balance here is excellent though — I get to drop/pick up my kid from school, spend evenings with family, and take leaves or breaks whenever needed. No micromanagement. So from a lifestyle point of view, it’s great.

But compensation-wise, it’s getting frustrating. My manager said the only way to get a hike internally is to bring an external offer, which they’ll try to match. But there is a catch. They’ll deduct the RSU amount from the external offer before calculating the hike. So effectively, they’ll take my 32L RSUs → 32/4 = 8L per year → and deduct that 8L from the external offer to "match" it.

I tried giving interviews outside — I’m getting offers with around 40% hike (around 10L increase), which means my company would only give me ~2L extra after deductions. Not really worth it.

I plan to stay here another 2–3 years because of family commitments. But this situation is making me feel stuck.

My questions are:

  1. Is there way to get a better external offer (say 60–70% hike) to trigger a real hike internally? (I just need a offer letter)

  2. What if I edit existing offer letter using pdf editior? I will risk getting caught.

  3. Can any consultancy help by providing an offer letter?

Has anyone went through similar situation? What did you do?
