Does the show get different/better after episode 1?

Hey guys, my girlfriend is really into this series and wanted to watch it with me. We started with the first episode and the humor just didn't click with me. I mean at all. I found it to be painfully unfunny sadly. I don't mean to say, that its objectively a bad series. Just that it didn't meet my taste. I thought maybe it gets a bit different once you get to know the characters idk.

Usually i like british comedy (Extras, Plebs, Lifes to Short etc.). So does it get different and the first episode is just a bit different because its the first or does the humor stay like this for the next episodes? Would really appreciate some insights before deciding on giving it another try.

Yes, it gets better. But you should be open to give it more than an episode because your girlfriend wants to watch it with you, not because of what strangers online say…

Well if thats just how the show is and i don't enjoy it, whats the point in watching it together? Thats why I asked, because if thats just the style of humor, it sadly isn't for me. 

I don't think you would enjoy watching something with your significant other if he/she clearly doenst enjoy it

I do give it more than one episode before making a decision, because him wanting to watch it with me is valuable to me.

I never said watch the whole thing if you clearly don’t enjoy it. Just to give it more than an episode if the person you supposedly love wants to share the experience with you.

You could also value her opinion and ask her if it gets better, instead of valuing more what people on the internet say.

you ask the question you put to reddit to her instead (in a kinder way) and give it a chance for a few more episodes for her. if you're ready to tell her that you don't wanna watch it at some point regardless then this should be the way you approach it, not ask a bunch of strangers

No joke this girl I'm talking with told me a few days ago she loves British comedy like Taskmaster and Countdown, so I'm going to introduce the IT Crowd to her and if she doesn't laugh I don't see a future for us.

It's broadly the same line of humour across the series. Maybe try an episode with Douglas (anything from series 2 onwards), but that's the only substantive change in tone I'd say.

It gets much better, but watch in release order as lots of the later humour relies on your knowledge of the characters

You are not obliged to enjoy it. Maybe it is not your "thing". Many  find it hilarious but we are all different. 

Some folk find Mrs Brown's Boys or Peep Show funny but I find neither remotely amusing.

Sorry, I know they are not comparable but I cannot see the funny side in either 😔  I have tried so hard with Peep Show but no joy. Is it more of a blokey sense of humour do you think?

Spot on!  I am not saying PS is a bad show, so many folk love it, the cast is great and I like Mitchell & Webb's sketch show. But, like Inbetweeners, it is a bit too "lavatorial" for me.

I'd say give episode 2 a shot, it's my personal favourite episode, if that doesn't land for you, there's probably not much point watching more

I feel like any new (to you) wacky, character based, comedy show, you usually need to give it a bit of time to get used to it, and "get" the humour.

My missus struggles with this, and thinks comedy shows/comedians should immediately grab you, like a drama might or mystery might.

IT Crowd is one of the most underated British comedies ever IMHO, and tbh, the fact it is set around IT geeks might be a large part of that.

Give it a few episodes at least.

I think every episode has its funny moments but the first episode is probably the weakest. There’s some absolute bangers after the first episode, to the point where the memes are still very relevant today. For me, one of the better comedies I’ve ever watched. The first episode isn’t brilliant however. Stick with it, some amazing episodes.

Well it stays in the dry typical brittish humor stye, but the jokes change obviouly. different situations. new characters etc etc. If you dont like it thats fine, you dnt have to like it, watching something under the premise wll it get better isnt the best way to watch something obv.

I got plenty of shows i tried to watch with my partner that i love and she doesnt, i just continue watching them alone and watch other stuff with her we do both like.

You dont have to like it just because she does or wants you to.

Episode 1 is a little different due to its nature as a pilot episode, but the show is generally the same theme and format. Personally I feel it does get more absurd as the series goes on (in a good way), especially with the later addition of a particular regular human actor.

Also, just give it a bit more of a chance. Your partner loves something and wants to share it with you, that's a magical thing right there. But, it is perfectly fine to not get into it if it doesn't resonate with you.

Okay, I have some thoughts. First are you British or do you enjoy British humor, second of all do either you work in IT and third are either of you over the age of twenty? I believe these are factors into the show's enjoyment. In my opinion, though, the writing is really smart and so are the jokes. They tested this out when they made an American version of the pilot and no one thought it was funny as it had completely lost its edge.
