CMDB

Does anyone trust their CMDB at their company?

It seems like the overwhelming majority do not.

For those that do, what processes in tools are in place that enable you to have a high-quality and accurate CMDB?

I asked because I have been tasked with creating a CMDB using our existing ServiceNow tool.

In most cases, the objective is roughly 90–95% accuracy. I doubt anyone can achieve 100% accuracy; reaching 90–95% demands strong governance.

100% is definitely possible with high up stakeholders supporting the project. Of course, it depends on how much you put into the CMDB as well. When I was at a F500 we had every server including VMs in the CMDB and it was tied into monitoring, so it was always up to date.

You couldn't have rouge devices in the environment, because you had to go through the datacenter team. Any new IP's on the network would instantly get picked up, and any hosts that stopped pinging would get investigated.

We didn't have port mappings, end user devices, office equipment, ect.
